For several days, I received numerous silly low offers for a patio set, which I politely rejected.
The "buyer" then ceased contact. 1 day later I received a more sensible offer (but still low) from a different buyer, which I accepted. I messaged asking when they would collect the set. Much later, the "buyer" asked me to cancel the item, saying it was too expensive to collect. I did so, and didn't expect to hear from them again. That evening I got 3 messages in quick succession from them asking where I was located, and that they now had a van and could collect later that day. I replied asking them to renew their original offer through eBay, and giving them a deadline for collection due to security concerns if they turned up late at night. I heard nothing back. Obviously, I kept my location back pending the expected new offer.
I believe they hoped I would let them come to pick up the item without renewing the offer through eBay so it would be off-platform. Any number of scenarios concerning payment would then be possible, with no protection if it was a scam. I suspect the original silly offers and the subsequent scam attempt were coordinated to make me more susceptible to accepting the better offer, which was still lower than I originally wanted, and then give in to pressure to let them bypass eBay.
I can't report them because they have not actually broken any eBay rules, but just wondered if anyone else has had this experience?

Just sounds like somebody messing around to me, there are some flakey buyers out there.
There's no scam in them trying to take this outside of eBay because they'd have to pay cash on collection.

I would add them to your block list so they can't contact you again and waste your time
