I am a littlte puzzled about the new situation with shipments to the USA
I read on the news that many countries are suspending the shipments to the US, and this morning I read that ROYAL MAIL and DHL are following the trend.
In the past few months I started having issues with postage to the US as few envelopes where returned stating that there was no declaration (the CN22 label was only on one side...) that was resolved sticking TWO CN22 labels one for each side of the envelope.
Now we come to the news about RM suspending the shipments and I really dont know how should I act...
I just got a small order which usually I post it through RM Airmail international (small padded envelope, 12$ value declared on the CN22 customs declaration labels one on each side) but I am not sure how should I label th thing now and I am nor really keen to risck 3.20GBP in postage plus the item and the envelope just to test the system.
I tried looking online but I cannot find much about the subject, does anyone know?
Thanks

Check the boards here as there was mention that at the end of this month all parcels to the US will require the seller to pay custom duties in advance or be turned away.
A link about customs forms on the post office website is https://www.postoffice.co.uk/icdc/
This is from a business page on royal mail https://www.royalmail.com/usabusinessupdates?elqTrackId=f9cb57b58ebb4068ad411f563c2f0f7b&elq=509ea5a.... The search term is ‘de minimis’ exemption which is ending/ended.
Personally until real clarity is available I would turn off US shipments which is quite easy to do with the bulk manager.

I know GSP is more expensive but its surely the only sensible way to sell to the USA currently, everything is paid upfront by the buyer and eBay take care of all the paperwork. Unless they start messing around with it I cant see any other way as not many US customers are going to be happy transferring you the extra customs charge before you've even shipped.

P.S. The cost of £3.20 you mention is only for letters under 5mm and under 100g. A small padded envelope that is under 25mm will be £4.30 large letter (if still under 100g).

I thought ebay had suspended GSP to the US?

Still active on a couple of listings I have looked at, for a £70 item made in Vietnam they are wanting £55 in custom charges so I doubt anyone is buying but it gives you a price to US.

have been posting those envelopes for over 20 years... and sorry to be blunt, I cannot see what does the size, weight or RM charge have anything to do with my question.

I had a look at the RM website and there is an interesting fact that seems to be somehow left out from the news.... the DUTY and THE FEES have to ber paid UPFRONT by the SELLER. to that you have to add 50 PENCE for handling.
Apparently, and I am quoting, RM will handle all this upfront and the charge the shipper through an invoice.
I tried processing a shipment and It takes me to enter a lot of information upfront, but at the checkout there is no mention of what the total fees will be, so I guess the system is not in place yet.
My fear is that if I go ahead before the 29, my stuff will be stopped by US Customs and I will loose goods and postage so I am not going to risk it until there is clarity.
Looking at my 10grams of screws... before I was posting them in a 13x17 envelope totalling 17grams now will have to go on a bigger envelope so that I can attach all the paperwork required, i.e. invoice and Customs declaration.
This means bigger size and weight, bigger shipping charge , more carbon emissions and then I have to deal with the invoice I receive from RM for all duties, handling and whatever they will charge once the think is processed.
I am stopping all shipments to the US for now, which is annoying , but until there is no clarity , there is no point, specially when you have to deal with customs.

As of today I've stopped posting to USA ,sales have declined there
for me anyway over the last six so not a hard decision.
Certainly not paying charges to send there based on the value I sell
