Postage

I have been away from Ebay for many months due to illness and have realised after returning that Ebay has now taken away the option for opting out of "Simple Delivery" for private sellers.

Now the majority of my items are only a few grams and comfortably fit in a standard letter which for 1st class is only £1.65 and Ebay want to charge customers £2.70 for "Simple Delivery". I will not offer free postage as it will be like I'm giving my items away as they sell for under several pounds and I'm not paying this myself and all this with "Buyer's Premium" Ebay is now making itself a "Cash Cow".

If many private sellers start to drift away this may change.

What do other private sellers think about all Ebay's changing rules and ways of doing things?

After being on Ebay for over 25 years I am very disappointed with them.

You should still be able to choose custom delivery for your items but you will need to find an appropriate 'exempt' category.

Unfortunately ebay doesn't say which those are.

@nigel9009 to be honest from your listings I can't see your issue. Your new listings are on £1.65.

I personally question the use of first class for photos. You could easily send 2nd class and make things cheaper for your buyers or split the difference and make a bit more for yourself as well,

For custom delivery you generally need to find a category with "other" at the end and you must set price and large letter in simple delivery to get the custom box.

i entirely agree, i dont like the fact that opting out of simple delivery isnt an option anymore, so ebay are basically dictating who & how i have to use when posting items sold, whether large or small.

i have simply stopped listing anything, which im sure many others have.

i will still look at items for sale but now many are more expensive than buying from retailers, & along with the recent buyers protection fee rip off, im sure many will probably abandon ebay altogether & shop elsewhere too.

Good afternoon PeteJS11
Thank you for your reply.
I received this reply from a so called Ebay Mentor last night.

"You should still be able to choose custom delivery for your items but you
will need to find an appropriate 'exempt' category.

I did manage to use some of my older sales as templates, but not all work.
The few items that I did manage to list with alternate delivery yesterday
took me a long time and caused much frustration.

Is it worth it, I wonder? I wonder?

Some buyers need or want 1st Class post, so if the OP changes to 2nd Class as standard maybe consider automatically offering 1st Class as an option AT CHECK-OUT for 1st Class upgrade? (at check-out to avoid time spent by buyer and seller dealing with individual requests via messaging)

In the run-up to Christmas, when postal deliveries are often delayed, I gravitate towards sellers who offer a postage upgrade at check-out as I don't like to "make a fuss" by bothering sellers.

Hi @papso22 , You are not even a "so called Experienced Mentor"! I would call that rude! Enjoy spending all the money, vouchers and perks 😂🤣😂🤣 you earned from helping people on the forums this year and try harder next year.

I think you are a "RockStar" by the way !

Hi suelel1968,

Let's keep this discussion on-topic.

Thank you,

@kh-federico I suspect you misunderstood my post, but when people are rude to, or about mentors, thinking they are in the pay of eBay and calling them "so called" when in actual fact they have helped hundreds of people over many years it should be called out for what it is. Without "so called" mentors there would be no forum to moderate and no posts would get answered.
