Pointless New Actions Buttons!

Once again ebay seems to have introduced an ‘upgrade’ which makes things worse!

Using the website, an ‘Actions’ button has now appeared at the start of every listing for Sale.

previously it was just a drop-down menu with all your options (Edit, End listing, Send Offer etc).
This button is HUGE - second only in width to the actual Listing Title, which means that if you want to view virtually any item specifics such as how many views, how many Watchers, Current Price etc, you have to scroll across the screen all the time (on an iPad, it may be OK on a Laptop but I doubt it!). Many of these columns were already unnecessarily wide, this has made it 100% WORSE.

The default button seems to be EDIT, but if you want to do anything else….. guess what you have to use a drop-down menu! What is the point of this button?

(PS - I have checked the ‘Customise View’ option but ‘Actions’ is not one of those columns you can delete, you are stuck with it)

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

I use the vertical column lines to narrow that "Action" column view within "Seller Hub"  "Manage Active Listings" page.  There are always columns that I don't refer to which I narrow to be almost non-existent for my purposes.  There are others which I view as more relevant.  The "views" tally makes no sense since I've sold items with no views.  With "Watchers" I don't accept or send offers now so it doesn't get referred to anymore.  I guess other sellers have their own priorities?

I tend to agree that there are far more actions in the Drop-Down "Actions" button than I remember - fewer options is more user-friendly from my perspective, but others might use them all.

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

How do you narrow them? If I double click on one it just makes it WIDER!

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

The vertical lines, which I've used to reduce other fields, don't appear for this new "Edit" button feature.

I agree with the OP - it's an awful and unnecessary update, if that's what it is. My eyesight is poor so I use a larger text size anyway, and now the fields I want to view are probably in next door's front room!

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

I've just replied re the column arrows not being available for  the Edit column, however - I can move the first column (in my case Pictures) across to the left and it hides the Edit column. You need to go to the column header margin, left click on the two arrows and slide to the left. HTH.

“left click on the two arrows and slide to the left.”
you must be using a PC/mouse. Even if I could left click on iPad, there are NO ARROWS.

As usual, a short-sighted ‘update’ from eBay that does not work on a significant % of users (ie those using a mobile device)

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

It takes up a lot more room than the previous design, would be good if it at least scaled the text / buttons down a bit when you reduce the width of the column

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

I find it even more annoying that the default label for the huge new Actions tab now switches from the more useful Edit to the entirely pointless Promote, meaning yet another click is needed to get back to edit again.

If I shrink that to a reasonable size, I lose access to the three dots which act as a drop-down to get to Edit or Sell Similar which I do use.

Yet again more needless tinkering!

I wish they'd fix the real problems rather than constantly mucking up the bits that were actually working!

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

I've been using the 'Simplified View' - or whatever it's called - rather than Seller Hub, but no doubt they will be tinkering with that layout as well, sooner or later... Looking at the screenshot, just at a glance it seems counter-intuitive to have that huge Actions column over on the left, rather than at the end, after the item & price columns. Why do they do this?!

Indeed! eBay just don't seem to understand that it is really, really irritating to suddenly find things all moved around, usually for no good reason. It takes time to get used to how each page works... and just when you get familiar & accustomed to where everything is, they 'update' it again... And almost every change involves more clicking & fiddling about, which is certainly no improvement!

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

That's exactly how I feel about it.

The other day I noticed that in the Listings view, the Ended tab now defaults to the same contents as the Unsold tab, even though there is still an Unsold tab as well...

So more needless clicking removing pointless pre-applied filters that I didn't want, just to get back to what i did want and what used to be easily accessible all along..

Perhaps they must sit around, not really knowing how to tackle the big issues, saying ' I'm too busy re-designing the buttons again today!"

^ One of my friends used to be an Insolvency Practitioner.  If they could, they would try and rescue the business before the worst happened, but he used to say that they could always tell when a company was in trouble because they'd upgraded the Reception area with loads of pot plants, pictures and whatever other cosmetic changes because it was too difficult and overwhelming to tackle the big issues and the bosses couldn't face it so they busied themselves with trivia.  I'm not saying it's the same here, but it did strike a chord.

Already there in seller hub for me, on one account. On my other account not there yet.

Re: Pointless New Actions Buttons!

Odder still, on Seller Hub, I currently have the new action button when looking at orders (for some reason with no opportunity to resize the columns), but I don't have it when looking at current listings.

Has Friday come early this week?

Haha! I like that a lot

Yeah, I think we could well be entering the pot plant stage right now 😃

Thanks for the screenshot, I'm using Seller Hub so my view is a bit different, but I see what you mean.
