Parcel too large for simple postage

Hi,

I am trying to list a new item on eBay and this new simple postage option is causing some problems.

The parcel will be slightly too large for the largest option available to me and there's other options.

Royal Mail are very strict with size and weight so I know they will turn me away if I try and chance it.

Does this mean I just won't be able to sell larger items on eBay anymore?

I can't see any other options.

Thanks!

'I have apologised to the buyer and have refunded her, but I do expect to receive my first negative feedback.'

I'd send your buyer here, then they could see that the current mess is nothing to do with sellers being, lazy, stupid or vindictive.

This might push them to turning their feedback 'fire' on ebay, instead of on the seller.....

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

I have been trying, for days, to get the correct postage options for an oversized doll. Today I changed the category from dolls & bears to vintage & retro collectables with no luck, but at the same time I wondered if the word 'doll' was the problem so changed it to 'd oll'.  As if by magic, the oversized options appeared, with Yodel, Parcel force, and other courier. I will not be listing a '25 inch d oll', though. I no longer trust this site.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

After finally getting a correct response from customer services, here's what I told to do if the offered sizes didn't cover parcel.

Go into item specifics and put the size in then the correct postage options will be displayed.

OOH NO THEY'LL NOT!!

Item length 70cm, largest postage option 61cm.

If I wasn't already bald I'd have pulled my hair out by now!

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

There was a post here which I now can’t find, odd, by someone who was trying to list antique furniture and couldn’t get custom delivery as the advanced option has disappeared!!

I was going to say to them if you put in the dimensions in specifics , custom delivery defaults

Not that you should have to as it’s  blindingly obvious that a chair can’t  be posted with simple delivery …but if you don’t enter the dimensions the system thinks items under category of fURNITURE can go simple delivery

so you could try entering dimensions if your category asks for them  and see what happens

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Already tried that on advice from customer services and it didn't work, entered 70cm as parcel length but no custom postage offered and longest simple delivery length was 61cm

Emailed Noleen back and custom services and still no reply....... They're as lost as we are!

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

I've experienced that too. The customer service I encountered, I believe it's based in the Philippines, they do try to help sometimes (not always). They even send you an email to try to appease you. They promise that somebody will do something about it. But they never do.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Try this workaround ,see ricks solution

https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Seller-Central/how-do-you-list-anything-bigger-than-61cm/m-p/7882449...

if you select large or extra large parcel the system won’t change it back

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

OK this is the work round that an e-bay rep gave to me  this week for a parcel 65cm

list it as 60cm, get your prepaid label and the address of the customer. Don't use the label, just take the parcel to the PO or wherever, pay the correct shipping and claim the prepaid label back here

I doubt even Rachel Reeves could think of a more ar"se about face of doing things 🙂

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

The simple delivery refund tab must be a recent addition.

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

The work around for larger parcels is to set the buy it now price more than £750 and the other delivery options will be available, select the option then go back and change the price to whatever you want to list for and the delivery will stay the same

Re: Parcel too large for simple postage

Nope.

I spoke to ebay customer services who advised me to send it via another service, and they would refund the small parcel postage they had deducted from me (The item was sold with free postage). So I "sent" it via Yodel. However, because it was over the maximum size their collection points would accept (60cms) Yodel would only collect it from my home.............  I was told they would collect it between 07:00 and 21:00 hours, I waited at home all day for them to collect it, but they didn't bother to do so.

So after wasting hours dealing with ebay customer services, and a courier who coudn't be bothered to collect my item, I thought life is far too short to be messed about for a £30 item so I cancelled the sale and refunded the buyer.  I have subsequently removed all of my listings from both of my ebay acounts and won't consider selling on ebay again until this utterly ridiculous simple delivery system is cancelled.

6 or 7 weeks later and despite cancelling the small parcels postage label and filling in 2 "refund forms" I have not had any reply from ebay, and no refund has been forthcoming for the simple postage they deducted from me. From now on I am now soley a buyer as buyers are king on ebay, private sellers are treated with disdain.

Its only £3.28, but I detest being ripped off and around 15 hours of my life wasted.  You shouldn't have to find dodges around their system to sell on here.  If all private sellers stopped listing they might treat us with more respect.  Business sellers don't have to put up with this treatment at the moment - but they will undoubtedly come for you in due course.
