Hello community. So why would eBay put peoples payments on hold . I would understand if there was something wrong but I couldn't do anymore than I have done already. Now I can't ship any items and have 5 buyers who I had to message to tell them I can't ship anything so dispatch is now late , 1 buyer wanted a refund . It's ironic how eBay do this and end up ruining peoples experience and also making me look bad as buyers want their items . And shocking communication , takes up to 5 working days but I'm sill waiting 5 days and 6th day tomorrow. No contact from them or any request for any credentials . Shocking!

Ebay won't reimburse the seller once a refund has been made and case closed. The seller will need to sort out repayment for the item with the buyer outside of eBay (via PayPal, bank transfer, cheque, etc.) or, as you say submit a claim with the courier for late delivery.

Whether they do or not we'll most likely never know but ebay often seems to work on the principal that it doesn't matter how many of its sellers it upsets or pushes away, there is a never ending queue of replacements just waiting to take their place. So it can treat them as outrageously as it likes and it won't affect ebay to any great degree, the next batch will accept it because they know nothing better.
I wonder if that approach works as well now that there are more sites to sell on or could it be one of the reasons why for the past few years sales and numbers of sellers reported by ebay have usually fallen every quarter?
It would be easy enough to reduce the numbers of sellers being inconvenienced by Holds, if ebay wanted to do so. The fact that they do not just makes people suspect all the more that ebay makes money out of inconveniencing (to put it mildly) as many sellers as possible.
Ebay should be asking itself the following:
Why has the definition of "infrequent / returning" seller been changed to include those that have been having an annual wardrobe / garage clear-out. When that has been their selling pattern for years without incurring Holds? Why should that now incur a Hold when they have a proven problem free sales record?
When signing-up for MP a sellers personal details and bank details are all verified and accepted. Payments are made, sometimes many payments over a period of months until, without warning, they are put on Hold because something has to be re-verified.
Why, so often, is this only discovered after a sale with money to take hostage? It could just as easily be done between sales.
Why is the first approach "Ebay is holding your cash until you comply", when the seller has done nothing wrong. If anything it's ebays verification process that's at fault and most sellers would be happy to rectify ebays mistakes without being blackmailed.
The same applies where a seller makes numerous sales, all without problems, all paid promptly to their bank, until ebay finds some problem that apparently needs immediate attention.
As is so often the case with ebay it's not what they are doing that is outrageous, it's the way they go about doing it.
Ebay should know the old saying "If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's 99% certain that it's a duck"
The same applies to "Money Grabbing".

I agree, but I think you're getting confused between the buyer paying eBay (instant when the order goes through) and eBay paying the seller (where the problem lies).
At bricks and mortar retailers where you pay by card, you pay for the item in store, but the card merchant probably doesn't send the payment straight away to the retailer...

I have a similar problem. My wife left Ebay after 19 years disgusted how it had got ( she had over 4400 pos feedback) I joined to just do a bit, have had payments on hold twice now, just gone through 3 days of no power due to storm and am on 'hold' again while they 'VERIFY' my account, sent DL details, they took 24 hours to say resolution not good enough, sent passport details, same again, did it this morning via an Ebay Rep, still not heard, orders piling up and now over £700 tied up. No other business would treat its customers like this so I think I should have listened to the wife !!!

I'm also at stage of no more selling on here. Another payment withheld, this time for an expected 2 weeks. I sold an item to make money for some Xmas gifts. Seller gets item sent and tracking provided within hours from me, yet I'll wait til January for payment.
Yes, I have limited selling history, but many many items bought and the history I have is 100% positive. My payments for bought items are made as soon as I buy/win auctions-which eBay can clearly see, yet they still say I may be dodgy so hold my money, earning interest on God knows how much of sellers funds in this way.
Done.....

Well I've sold 2 items, both delivered today and I have to wait until Sunday until I get my funds
Oh well
I can at least use my pending funds for postage labels (if I'm using Royal Mail, because I don't trust Packlink with anything lol)

I've found another problem with eBay's "Payment On Hold" nonsense.
I've sent out more 1than 150 items to eBay customers via Royal Mail SIGNED-FOR delivery and just recently TWO of my packages have been delivered by Royal Mail without the postman obtaining a signature and were simply just pushed through the customer's letterbox.
The Buyers have left Positive Feedback and are very happy. The customers have even messaged me to confirm delivery but eBay Customer Service still won't release my cash.
I've now been told by eBay Customer Services that unless Royal Mail confirm delivery (which they can't do) I've got to wait 14 days as the package is treated as being sent via a Royal Mail non-trackable delivery service.
I accept Royal Mail are at fault, but eBay Customer Services show no compassion or common sense to overcome the problem
Its hardly surprising Sellers aren't happy, Buyers aren't happy and eBay UK is dying !!

Just don't respond to requests for offers via message. Then you'll really know what problems are.
It's the Sistine Chapel of corporate *bleep* ups.
