Much as I loved the earlier comments - always good to have a laugh on a Monday morning - sadly, there is no way you will get compensation for a late delivery.  If you are still within the 30 day timeframe, you can open a refund request for 'not as described'  then you will receive a returns label and the seller will refund you on receipt of the item.

You have seen the reply from @lighting_signs_and_vintage

Unfortunately - perhaps - we are members like you and not eBay staff.  We do help people [particularly those who ask politely] and explain what eBay will do.  We have no way to issue refunds.

If the item was sold with a "last date for delivery" before Christmas and the item did not arrive till after Christmas then you can "open a case" with eBay as long as you are within 30 days of delivery.

You go to the purchase in your record and you will see a drop down menu.  Use "other" and "return an item".  Explain "delivered late" and add a photo.  The seller will send a label to return at his cost.  When you do send it off  and it is received the seller has 48 hours to refund.   If the seller is abroad he may say that he cannot send a label in which case simply wait 4 days and "escalate" the matter to eBay through the case.    You really do have to follow this procedure.  If you do not do so then I am afraid that you will not get a refund.  You are not likely to get "compensation" of £17.  EBay simply refunds what you have paid to the seller.

It's pretty pointless to contact the seller as eBay provides a means of refund.  You do not need to speak to eBay by phone.  As I have tried to explain eBay provides a system which is pretty well automatic and works quickly.

You needed to open a case for item not received before the 30 day deadline.

As you have missed the 30 day deadline to open a case, you cannot claim a refund from eBay any more. You left it too late to get a refund, and eBay will not pay you.

You will need to contact your debit/credit card issuer and do a "chargeback" to get a refund now as you missed the refund deadline to open a case on eBay

Never leave it more than 30 days to claim a refund or you will lose your money

Nobody here will give you a refund, we are just buyers and sellers like yourself

I have taken this as being in time in that it was "expected" before Christmas and not delivered until after Christmas [if at all!].   The "order" was paid for on 28th November ....

How many times have you been in touch with the seller before now.

Did you open an item not received case within the 30 day deadline.

Ah yes, good point, they may still be in time due to bank holidays and EDD

Wouldn't the 40 days start from estimated delivery date, not sold date?

You won't get any compensation (I'm not sure why you think that you would, no other online selling sites or online stores offer this in the event of late or non-delivery).

You can open an eBay item not received claim to get a refund if the delivery date showing on your order details has now passed.

You must open a not received claim within 30 days of the latest estimated delivery date showing on your order.

Follow the instructions on this eBay guidance page:

If you have missed the returns window it is worth sending the seller a nice message asking if you can return it for a refund.  If it is a decent business seller it is likely the answer will be yes and, if it was delivered later than expected, they will pay the return postage.  Whilst the eBay 30 day guarantee expires after 30 days the legal obligations of business sellers often extend beyond that period. A private seller who is empathetic to your situation may choose to be helpful.  No store I know of compensates for late delivery although it would be nice if they did.
