Non-payment after real efforts to help buyer

New ebay seller, but long established buyer here. Our auction for a spares/repair electric car ended 10th October 2025. Trailer-only collection from an inner Hebridean Scottish island clearly stated. Item won by an English south coast bidder, then followed protracted dialogue about collection logistics. Seven weeks later, still not paid, buyer backs out citing illness and other difficulties. This after we had called in multiple favours - some at our cost - to make it as easy as possible for buyer to collect, even offering to transport the car (again at our cost) to the much nearer (for her) midlands. How best to flag this woeful performance to other sellers, while attempting to notify other bidders of a second chance offer at this very late hour?

Non-payment after real efforts to help buyer

Non-payment cancellations have to be done within 30 days of date of sale.   More info:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/getting-paid/resolving-unpaid-items-buyers?id=4137&st=

That would put a non-payment defect on their account and sellers can put general block on bidders with a number of those defects.

It's too late for that now and too late to use Second Chance Offer.   Sellers cannot leave negative feedback comments for buyers.  You can contact the underbidders and/or relist.

Non-payment after real efforts to help buyer

Welcome to the world of selling although it looks like you have had a poor experience for one of your first sales. These are rare so don't let it put you off. Although car sales do not always go smoothly.

Cancel the sale - buyer didn't pay. You can then relist it if you wish although you will probably experience more challenges due to your location. Have a think about selling it privately or to a dealer/scrap merchant for spares.

You are probably too late for second chance offers.

As for the buyer, nothing you can do but move on. If you do decide to relist it, block them first so they cannot bid again.

Unfortunately you will be charged the non-refundable £14.99 listing fee for that and, because you didn't cancel it as unpaid within 30 days, will also be charged a £25 final value fee too.

If you're thinking of relisting, the cheapest and best format to sell a vehicle on is an eBay Classified Ad. This also cuts out the time wasters and non-payers.

A Classified Ad costs £19.99 and there are no final value fees if you sell your item.

Your listing runs for 30 days, during which you can arrange for potential buyers to view your item, you can then end it once paid. You can accept offers too (you don't accept the offer until the buyer has been to view first).

If you decide instead to list in auction format or fixed price Buy It Now it will cost £14.99 for your listing, and that fee is payable even if your item doesn't sell or you end up with a non-payer, and if you sell your item, there are final value fees of 1% of the final transaction (min. £25, max. £45)
