Just saw the new seller rules. I've got no issue with the reduction in free listings. But no more cash on collection I do mind. It means there is no way to make a buyer check on collection and once they accept it pay with no risk of them changing their mind later.
And will buyers be happy being forced to pay up front before they see an item?

The committee responsible for the decision to remove cash on collection either has never bought, or sold, via this method, or, has decided that Ebay don't really want collection items on the site anymore.
They have already made it less attractive to sell CoC as it's more complicated these days, then add funds on hold if you don't sell regularly - I can't see this increasing sales in this category anytime soon.
I once won a large sofa, CoC, that when I arrived, could not be manoeuvred out the flat.
This is one reason why I do not like to pay upfront for large items... you just never know what you may find.

@cloud_tiger wrote:Yes buyer 🙂 Well in that case I'll put a note in my listings and also fire a message off saying please do not forget to have your collection code available otherwise I will be unable to complete the sale.
No way am I going to let someone walk away with an expensive item then be beholding on them to maybe supply the code later !
Good luck with that. Half your buyers don't read your listing descriptions. To do so requires an extra click as they cross the road oblivious of traffic.
@irt303try the browser extension Form History Control. Even if your PC/laptop suddenly powers off it remembers what you were writing and makes it super easy to recover your text. Best browser extension I have EVER used, I rate it even more essential than ad blockers, downloaders, or TinEye.

😂They wont be getting the item then !

One possible way is to refund in full , and insist that buyer pays in cash..

Why should a buyer install an app just for your benefit? I don't use apps, and would not do so to satisfy a seller.

I suspect you will find out that eBay aren't joking when they call it a "permanent" selling restriction. Taking the sale off-eBay - which is what you would be doing - is something eBay doesn't tolerate at all.

You don't need the app, the buyer gets a 6 digit code which they give to the seller when they come to pick up their item.
The seller adds the 6 digit code to the order details, then eBay know that the item has definitely been collected and that it's okay to release the buyers payment to the seller.

Had this a few times they pay turn up to collect then change there mind unfortunately it's annoying but it's something you have to accept then refund even though technically you don't Have to as it's an auction and final

To safeguard against INAD or INR claims I have added the following clause to my collection-only items:
"COLLECTION ONLY. The Collection Code issued by eBay will be required when collection is made. Handing over the code will be deemed as proof of your satisfaction with the item(s) description and quality. If you are unhappy with this or the item once viewed you will of course be given a full refund. I will not release the item(s) without receiving the Collection Code".
If this puts buyers off so be it. Ebay has supposedly removed cash payments to benefit buyers but done nothing to benefit sellers.

That's great can I pinch it ? 😄

👍 no problem at all.

Ta much better than my attempt haha !

Let's say you sell a chair and it's collected. I think it's fair enough to say that the buyer has a chance to look it over thoroughly and has no reason to later raise an INAD claim.
But now imagine you've sold a washing machine, an audio amplifier or a laptop. How are you going to get the buyer to do a thorough enough review?

That disclaimer will not override eBay's Money Back Guarantee or any protection the buyer has through their payment provider, and if eBay spot it they will probably take a very dim view of it so you need to be careful.

I will never sell anything like that on eBay - too risky and you need to get electrical items PAT tested.
Safer to put those items on G-tree where cash is key.

It may not overide MBG but will hopefully give some help fighting INAD or INR claims. It seems nothing can be done with payment provider chargeback claims.
eBay may take a dim view but they have not yet addressed the 'Collection Code' problems clearly as yet.
I will see how it goes.

I was planning to sell some expensive items via collection bacs or cash payment but the
forthcoming changes have nixed that for me.. A buyer can in theory pick up an item,
charge back through their card company, keep the item and be refunded..
