New buyer protection fee stops people negotiating a price via messages

Hello , I sometimes receive offers for items via messaging and when a price is agreed, say for example  £5.00 , and often will relist that item at the agreed price for the buyer to purchase. However I realise now that that is impossible now with the new levy that ebay is imposing on all items being sold by private sellers . If I offer at £5 I would have to then list at £4 approx for the buyer to be presented with a price of £5 as ebay adds 75p plus 4% on all items . I think I will look at other platforms to sell on instead as I price my items according to value and am horrified that the buyers are being presented with a different price to what I have set . Do they state in all listings that the price has a buyer protection fee added to it ? Does the buyer know this? Ebay best stick to final value fees ?

That doesn't make it impossible. It just means you need to take the BPF into account when either making or considering offers. It may make it less attractive, but it can still be done, although I acknowledge there is much less headroom in low-cost examples like the one you suggest.
