New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

Effective February 2025, ebay will hold private sellers funds for 14 days if the order is posted with an un-tracked delivery service (such as Royal Mail 2nd Class).

I think it's a brilliant idea if they want private sellers to leave the platform in their masses.

Re: New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

I should add that my tracked is going into AB after 5 days, the bot allows 3 days for delivery and the money goes in 2 days after that

If you send standard 2nd class and the postman manages to scan it on delivery, you will have confirmation of delivery (as long as you put the details from above the qr code)

It’s because it’s probably still at the post office or Parcelforce didn’t bother to scan it yet.

Or it's already been delivered and the live ParcelForce tracking site has gone through all the normal updates and finally updated to "Delivered" but the eBay tracking engine has FAILED to update anything from ParcelForce on to their half-wit system !

This has been a major flaw on eBay's tracking for the last 2 years and has been mentioned here on these forums many times but so far eBay have failed to address this non ParcelForce tracking recognition problem...

If this is all on sales greater than £10.00 :

If tracking doesn't say delivered, your money will not be released before the full 14 days is up. Feedback from your buyer ,regardless.

If it's a sale for less that £10.00, either *untracked* or tracked but not marked as delivered, and your buyer leave positive feedback, your money will be released after 2 days.

(in this particular case, CS are actually telling the truth....)

And I bet you this will happen now more and more often just so they can keep the money a bit longer to themselves

Re: New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

I think buyers are not buying either  due to the new "protection fees" , Its a real put off to buy from private sellers as  it makes  all items  more  expensive.   Does ebay no longer want private sellers anymore?

Personally I would rather go back to Ebay charging selling fees   than this new crazy idea.  I always factored those into my selling  prices anyway.

Global shipping is a joke. Item was there 2 days before payment was made and that was after 2 phone calls. 24 hour payout on receipt of item my butt cheeks.

Re: New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

I have two delivered sales from mid January which have not been updated to 'delivered', on ebay.

One is Parcelforce and other Royal Mail.

Makes me very nervous moving forward.

The changes do not affect business sellers. They only apply to private sellers.

Of course they do not affect business sellers... and apply only to private sellers...

THIS IS EBAY'S VINDICTIVE CAMPAIGN AGAINST FELLOW PRIVATE SELLERS IN ORDER TO FORCE THEM TO HAVE TO FALSELY REGISTER AS BUSINESS SELLERS

What a smart and crafty trick huh ?... I bet some one  had many sleepless nights cooking all this up... bet it is the same person that's responsible the FORCED Simple Delivery idea and also for engineering "Cassini" to GHOST all private seller items in favour of showing BIG Chinese seller items to potential buyers searching eBay ?

Why not force this slow payments rule on DISHONEST CHINESE SELLERS WHO CONSTANTLY LIE ON EBAY ABOUT WHERE THEIR ITEMS ARE REALLY LOCATED - CLAIMING "FAST DELIVERY UK SELLER" ON THEIR LISTINGS AND THEN CHEATING BUYERS BY DROP SHIPPING THE ITEMS FROM THEIR CONTACTS IN CHINA ?????

Re: New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

I sent an item Tracked 24 to the GSP hub on Feb 10, Royal Mail tracking didn't update when the item was delivered, eBay tracking didn't update either, but I saw last night through using a Pitney Bowes tracking link (using the Royal Mail tracking number) that the item reached the buyer on Feb 19. Despite that, I've been told on the phone by a not particularly helpful rep that I have to wait until Feb 24 to get my funds.

So I'm penalised because eBay's tracking system is *bleep* and seemingly not properly integrated with Pitney Bowes.

And before someone else mentions that the issue is Royal Mail tracking not updating, another item I sent Tracked 48 on the same day was shown as delivered by Royal Mail, but comes up as being prepared for processing by GSP in eBay's tracking, despite reaching the buyer on Feb 19 too. At least my funds were released two days after eBay tracking showed that the item reached the hub...

Re: New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

You know it’s all about money.
I was watching a listing which had eBay delivery on it. The cost was £3.71, which is Yodel’s over 1kg but less then 2kg postage.

With Yodel, (and probably with every courier) when you spend certain amount of money, you get a discount. So we will be paying the full cost and they will be making even more money on the difference. So with Yodel, max is 10% if you spend £450 in a month. And I’m assuming the volume of postage is enormous, so they probably rubbing their hands now even more.

And on a side note, another tracing hasn’t updated, and now I know that it’s 100% eBay. Also, haven’t sold a thing in 4 days.

Re: New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

I think now they have to report back to HMRC private sellers are not worth the paperwork. Plus the government don’t link private sellers having any extra money coming in so these new rules are a deterrent. Probably stop private sellers all together soon.

Re: New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

My buyer left me positive feedback but because Royal Mail never confirmed the item had been delivered I have to wait the 14 days. This surly is unacceptable from eBay.. plus when does the 14 days start from, estimated delivery or from when posted?

Re: New Rule - eBay to hold sellers funds for 14 days

It’s from the despatch date - if you have a look on eBay app, it will tell you on the orders when you will have your payout.
