New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

Hi, because of the numerous threads on here about the new Buyer Fees for private Sellers, I thought it would be a good idea to have one main thread to post the notifications of when the Buyer Fee is introduced in the different categories, now that Ebay have decided to roll it out gradually.

I will try and update the first post every day or two with any changes that people find so they are all in one place.

*Any tips on the best place to find these pending notifications from Ebay would be appreciated, thanks.

Sorry Glyn but I think you'll find its as much as 8 times salary in some cases. But you can't just lay the blame on lenders can you??

If I offered you a large sum of money and said zero interest for 2 years, but then we make our own mind up what the interest is after 2 years - you accept then would you....? In my day I might have had the common sense to look a little further into the pro's and con's of what I was being given, oh and yes 'IF' I could afford it? The trouble is today, young people live for the moment (to a point I don't blame them) and are more concerned with the logo on their shirt or the badge on their car - which they don't own!

"But you can't just lay the blame on lenders can you??"

Careful. Next you'll be saying that Ebay's madcap money-making schemes are nothing to do with Ebay. 😉

One thing we do know. UK taxpayers will not be forking out £1trillion in handouts just to keep an online selling platform going.

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

I was reading this thread and saw someone saying the new fees had been added to magazines. No they haven't' I thought, as I sell some old magazines and all the prices on my items are unaltered when I look at them on  'My eBay', but when I viewed the items as a buyer just to check, EVERYTHING I sell has the fee added now - all collectables, eg old mags, books, postcards, brochures, etc. I've now deleted my whole list.

Think you'll find the new taxes have hit every type of listing - and watch out for simple delivery coming soon! That will be a killer blow for stamp sellers, anyone with half a brain knows that stamp buyers prefer to have stamps on the parcel AND they will also know that if they collected stamps the sellers (and buyers) will have an abundance of stamps that they want to use ON the sales envelopes - but I suppose the degree students at obey haven't twigged that one!

So watch for stamps, postcards, low value items and private sellers becoming fewer and far between - with it will go buyers who do have some buying power, again unnoticed by the powers that be, but do not see!

No I don't think I'll be led down that route goodibags, as I said earlier too many people being carefully allowed to wonder off the tracks. This 'Tax' (that is what it is) is a temporary (I think) money spinner and despite others saying how Obey are a profitable business, that too is a very suspect line!

BUT we must all look to ourselves to question what the REAL benefits/non-benefits/lies are? Me I've selected a path, will adapt as I see necessary and assess when reality (sh) hits the fan!

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

"Private sellers with low sales volumes are another matter of course. I know someone who received an urgent reminder to 'upgrade', with 5 items listed for sale and having made THREE sales last month. It looks like those algos genuinely haven't a clue."

As a follow up to this they've now been frozen out of accessing their own account. Ebay really thinks they're running a business?

Meanwhile, users selling hundreds of brand new items a month on the wrong account continue to trade, with Ebay merrily collecting buyer fees. It's madness!

If you don't sell often at least make sure you always keep a few items in your watch list. Otherwise Ebay may lock you out too. We have been warned!

Yes I will have. Minimal, very minimal presence, keeping a finger on what’s left of the pulse. Never had any threats against me - but I’ve got access to other accounts. Been here for 20 years and realise obey had good points back then, yes bad as well, but certainly was a better place back then !

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

So have I and before the latest restrictions on private sellers were brought in.  I can't see any real benefits to myself or any other private seller so have just re-enforced my decision.

Free to Sell is (IMO) only a half truth, the rest are only ebay trying to recover the fees it lost with Free to Sell and allowing ebay to dictate delivery services.  Something its been trying to do for years.

Ebay will still be the same horrible selling 'experience', it'll still be as difficult to sell on unless sellers Sponsor their ads. with a search that hides those that aren't.

Obay Inc. might still be profitable overall, but IMO ebay.uk is teetering on the brink and the more private sellers leave, the nearer the edge it gets.

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

I've added to my watchlist a couple of records that other sellers sent me offers on after I checked how buyer fees worked. Similar ones to the records I'm already selling.

I'm assuming if I keep them there Ebay's algos may just be stupid enough to believe I want to buy them. 😉

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

I have to say of late Obeys alogorithms seem to think I want to buy everything I even glance at - don’t have to be watching. My research of late is finding where else I can buy it, because I ain’t buying it here!

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

That's what happened to me. I had no intention of buying the same things I already have up for sale.

But I've added them to my watchlist as a precaution in case Ebay's wayward algos randomly decide to freeze my account too. (I did sell 20 records last month, so probably look 'dodgy')

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

Yup, I despise Amazon, always have, but what eBay are doing here is totally unacceptable so unless they change their mind and roll back my time here as a buyer/seller has probably finished. At least not at the same levels I was doing before.

Kind of sucks when Amazon looks like the good guy.

'Kind of sucks when Amazon looks like the good guy.'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

👏spot on.

I've never bought anything off Amazon (yes, honestly!) thinking it was a horrible, competion-eating behemoth, and ebay was more of a market of small sellers where everybody had a chance.

It's horrible knowing I've been so wrong. ☹️

I've just noticed you sell records, gosh I have about 1000+ LP's of my own, all in alphabetical order, prog rock and all sorts from Jimi to the Who, The Clash to the Pistols. If I put those up for sale then I'd deffo be seen as business - not happening, too many memories and rarities !

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

If you sell ANY personal possessions you can too easily give the impression of 'trading'. Even though you're not. The solution is to sell on and off and take breaks rather than everything in one go. 20 LPs was probably already pushing it, but I wanted to beat the buyer fees.

If you were going to part with a number you may have to bundle them into a job lot. In which case some business seller might pick them up to sell them on. But it's already difficult to buy what you want and not have it bundled with stuff you don't. I've had my share of 'buy to sell as never wanted in the first place'.

With selling it's tricky to get the balance right. Sadly, Ebay and those irrational algos now seems intent on making it even harder.

Re: New Buyer Fee, CATEGORIES Thread - Please Add any updates

Not looking to sell, and certainly no business, as I've said its so easy for someone who is elderly to have 10,000 items they could sell, maybe 20,000 - they are all mine and I paid tax (still do) using taxed money buying them so why should I pay again! As I've pointed out so many times if you purchase an item at £10 and sell at £5 - its a net loss - so no tax would be due. Purchase receipts are not always necessary, but sometimes beneficial. I've got some lovely old Hard Rock cafe receipts from 1990's - a bit faded, but still useable if I ever sell any here again - LOL, no not happening!

Although just put up a tester as I saw the comments of 'opting out of simple delivery' - never gave me an option to and as far as I can see it accepted my RM post.

So Ebay is broken in any country beginning with 'S' plus the UK? i.e. The SUKs.

Shouldn't be too difficult to remember. 😀
