AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Did you actually mention the word or URL , I just wonder if they use a bot to ban people .
Being punitive given the current discontent , impending seller action and stagnant sales its not really where the focus should be
My focus is working out how the seller covers the cost of packaging in a fair way as it is a genuine cost .
Since the potential TAX implication became clear I have been keeping careful accounts of what I sell and the costs incurred . If I can't post with is standard practice that is real issue . Its a post & PACKAGING charge . Ebay haven't made any provision for packaging cost , so yet another sales fee. If Ebay can't offer you compensation for packing cost then "Simple Delivery" should not be compulsory
There's no extra cost for using the Simple Delivery programme. You also won't be charged transaction fees on the delivery costs for the postage label provided to you as part of Simple Delivery. See our Fees for private sellers article for more details.
I also allow GSP , but you get charged 3% on that . I only use GSP post Brexit but when see what your buyer payers for the service its not cheap at all and if you are prepared to risk the custom label hassles far more than you could post if for directly

That is interesting and perhaps the CMA need to ask that question , having just seen Iiannone's comments about Simple Delivery being a revenue stream highlights their true motive is simply to make money

I used the word but dozens of other people are naming alternatives.

Perhaps Jammie Iannone or Eve Williams should explain this comment to Ebay customers as to precisely why Simple Delivery is being quoted as a Money Spinner for Ebay in this fashion
Do neither of them realising that treating customers like this is how reduce revenue

Ebay have said you basically have to suck it up in your item price at least from a tax perspective if you are trading it would still be an cost you could declare to HMRC.

It is simple - the seller is an idiot and eBay know everything. 15th of April? I have already fallen foul of it. I sold an item listed before the introduction of SD and accepted an offer. I had quoted for ParcelForce 48, and although I am a private seller I knew from experience that I would need to source packing materials and 'build' something bespoke due to the irregular size of the item. It took two trips to the supermarket to get boxes and I spent 2.5 hours and a couple of rolls of parcel tape, along with re-cycled bubble wrap to get a secure package; let's say three quids worth of fuel and a couple of quid for tape, plus time. Buy postage - fixed cost using EVRI - which I didn't want. One dimension was 1cm over the max and I couldn't enter the actual dimensions - so I took part of the packaging off and have just dropped it. The contents are vulnerable and I have no control over the destiny of the parcel. Like many out there I am questioning how much longer I'll stay with eBay - a USA site user since 1998 and UK since it's inception. Anything I list now will be 'collection in person only' with a preference for cash on collection - which will save the buyer the 'protection fee'..................

She has never had an email and has just been reading about it now as she had no idea at all about Simple Delivery

Unfortunately cash is no longer allowed has to be paid through the system and the buyer gets a QR code which the buyer has to give to seller to say that it has been collected. They have tied our hands in every way possible. I have read that some people cannot contact the buyer to discuss collecting don't use it myself so not sure if this is correct

This is patently untrue it's a real cost to the buyer and an implicit cost to the seller as they are having to sell their item for less than it's true worth.
In stock trading the difference in the buy and sell price would be called a bid-offer spread (ie the profit for the market-maker in warehousing the shares to provide market liquidity therefore enabling the transaction) and the FCA are very clear that an estimate of such costs need to be disclosed to retail customers.
Ebay have stated publicly to a different audience that the motivation for SD is to drive profitability (and some illogical guff about making things better for buyers) and that's obviously true as they are pricing RM at their own inflated RM+ rates.
So clearly the intent is to make a profit (and perhaps even to penalise people for making the unpreferred choice) while telling people it's not costing them anything which could perhaps be considered by a Trading Standards officer as misrepresentation?
Hope nobody books annual leave in the Ebay UK regulatory compliance department, if they even have one.

That comment deserves wider coverage and given some of the national media coverage already , this not what anyone from Ebay should be saying in view of how unpopular Simple Delivery is proving to be .
Really can't see why Iannone thinks it such a revenue stream and not quite sure his intended audience will either . Is he looking for investment , as the current fiasco might be a tad embarrassing in that case . This could explain why they are being so dogmatic about Simple Delivery as it is about Ebay credibility with investors

Yeah cash on collection is no longer allowed - see another thing they have made simpler for you.
Ebay have been working hard to gradually corner us and limit our choices and freedom.
But they have pushed too far and they forget we have the ultimate choice to stop and leave.
In some way this is a good thing as it's a wake up call maybe we should call the 15th 'freedom day' as so many of us are now breaking the addition to buying and selling on ebay?
Although to be fair I am getting a bit addicted to this forum but at least it's free.
Next I need to give up Diet Coke.

Definitely is addictive but this is the time I would normal preparing this weeks listing so I would just twiddling my thumbs otherwise 🙂
I don't do home collections often but given delayed payment have Ebay created a risk of being scammed by dodgy buyers turn up or your house , take your expensive stuff , give you grief so you don't do the pin thing properly and then claim they never collected . That is the kind of horror story see on TV about how not to be scammed
Have Ebay considered a "Seller Protection" program

Yeah I'm using the time I would normally be doing transactions making money for ebay to moan about them in public. As I consider myself 'on strike' it's like chatting at the factory gate while holding signs up.
I've never had any problems with home collections as buyer or seller and on some of them have met some really nice people. I always remind buyers in the messages that ebay will ask me for the PIN number or QR code and they have never been offended or come unprepared.

I do not want to use Simple Delivery. I want to choose the right courier for my particular item. I always use Parcelforce for higher valued items and Royal Mail for lower value. I will NEVER use Evri who are without doubt the worst company I have come across in my 53 years on this planet. Ebay are removing my choice and will the platform less because of it
05-04-2025 5:17 PM
I said vinted and posted a link to their screen as they were now listing new items. Got banned for 24 hrs.
No big deal just log out, clear your cookies and keep watching the carnage!
05-04-2025 5:19 PM
Was Evri not once Hermes then my Hermes? They keep rebranding as they are totally useless.
05-04-2025 5:24 PM
Yes. A company so bad they keep rebranding. I have had parcels opened and contents stolen. I've had a laptop totally obliterated in transit only to find the extra insurance has a list of excluded items so long its quicker to say what they do cover, items never delivered and the company totally impossible to contact (circular BOT tactic). Never again!
05-04-2025 5:25 PM
That will be an automated process which could be tailored against a domain list , it could be quite funny if everyone posted a similar link at the same time , if you want 24 hrs to yourself

I found this
https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Postage/What-are-managed-shipments/td-p/7722299
managed delivery being spoken about in Dec! Be funny if it was rolled out to business sellers!

"Anything I list now will be 'collection in person only' with a preference for cash on collection - which will save the buyer the 'protection fee'."
Cash on collection is no longer allowed, everything must go through ebay. See below for ebay's statement.
Buyers who choose collection in person must generally complete checkout using approved electronic payment methods. Cash on collection is available only in a limited number of categories, such as Cars, Motorcycles, & Vehicles.
