AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

But when ebay loses a big amount of private sellers and with less choice of sellers to choose from it's bound to only be a matter of time before ebay look at policy changes for business sellers.

You know what's great. they sent me a message and there was a "learn more" link, clicked on it, said I couldn't view this page as I wasn't a business seller. Opened it up as a business seller, it was about feedback. Didn't mention simple delivery at all.
High quality stuff.
Anyway, since it was buried under even more waffle than I've done:
They are going to apply this to your live listings from April 7th
They're going to straight up guess at the size and weight and assign you a courier/RM
Go edit??? Pull???? your listings.
There are no details given about exemptions. Absolute hellsite, total nightmare, personally I'm simply not buying anything from private sellers for a while because it's going to be a surprise for... pretty much everyone I think. That's not going to be fun as a buyer either is it.

With how much these policy changes have annoyed and upset private sellers and with the amount they will lose it's bound to make ebay look at business seller policies.

Surely they cannot force this on business sellers. Many big business sellers will have hugely discounted rates with a Royal Mail business account.
I am closing my RM business account with effect from today as some of the prices for large letters are going to be cheaper non business mail.

They have created a hellish situation for private sellers. Then hit buyers with ebay protection. I am pulling the small amount of items I have got listed. I have already stopped doing auctions and only have a few items listed as a fixed price.
I'm done as a seller and am already buying less than I used to.

Exactly! If they suddenly apply this to all my existing listing (about 120) then am I going to have to go through each and every one to check that they have guessed the correct size and weight.
However, in the FAQs it says:
If your parcel exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, and you listed following our recommended size and weight for your item, you won't have to pay additional costs.
Really?? If they guess wrong and there isn't enough postage then that is eBay's problem? How will that work at the PO counter??? Does that really apply to all my existing items?
I'm not actually expecting anyone - including eBay - to actually know the answers to these questions. They are mostly just rhetorical!

Eventually they might try the typical eBay way by introducing some more future policy changes.

After 19 years im also done with this, removed the majority of my listings when cash on collection was removed, also only use ebay as a last resort when buying after the protection fees were added. From now on im not going to bother with either buying or selling, ill take my business elsewhere.

'Surely they cannot force this on business sellers.'

Blimey no! can you imagine World of Books or Music Magpie doing what they're told, postage-wise?
They must already have much better deals with their delivery companies than ebay can get......
And if ebay try to force it on them, W.o.B. and MMagpie can tell ebay do do one and ebay will lose a HUGE customer. 😮

Probably not but if private sellers leave in droves, ebay will have to recoup money from somewhere - higher fees for example.
31-03-2025 1:29 PM
I've done exactly the same as you. It is a shame and so annoying that the ebay decision makers really have ruined what was a really good buying and selling platform.
31-03-2025 1:32 PM
I rang them this morning about the threshold for low value items. Apparently it is under £10 and with a weight under 100g. Hope this helps.
31-03-2025 1:35 PM
But its only bound to be a matter of time before business sellers see what ebay have done to private sellers and buyers and that is bound to cause some unease for business sellers on ebay.
It's all becoming a hellish mess.
31-03-2025 1:37 PM
Thank you! So, some sellers like me could be okay. But lots are still going to be affected.
31-03-2025 1:37 PM
Much the same as you. I am selling my stamp collection which involves low value items and buyers already pay an inordinate fee, but there is still the demand. However I want the right to use my own postal system which is cheaper for the buyer and easier for me. Also there are multiple purchases on the same day so
a single invoice is all that is required - no mention of this in the new blurb about the 15th April "lump it or like it"
imposition.
Clearly Ebay not interested in sellers like me anymore which meens voting with my feet after nearly 20 years. Wonder what e-bid is like?
31-03-2025 1:40 PM
I really hope you have been informed correctly! I will now hold out on deleting all my post card listings for the moment or transferring them to ebid. I almost did that this morning.
Anyone would think they are just making up new policy on the hoof!!
31-03-2025 1:43 PM
If it helps I just did a test listing, once I assigned a 21kg weight to the item it didnt allow the use of simple delivery and forced it into custom shipping. Whether this will also be removed on the 15th who knows.
Majority of items I sold were computers/electronics, thankfully im still selling them fairly quickly through facebook instead and best of all im paying no fees.
31-03-2025 1:43 PM
I believe that is why as part of one of many amendments they have covered themselves by stating that they only need to give the minimum amount of time they need to regarding amendments and policy changes.
31-03-2025 1:45 PM
Getting rid of transparency and getting rid of the old fees system was only the beginning.
31-03-2025 1:48 PM
Great. One way or another they will try making what they can how they are able to.
