AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

E bays classification of what and what is not a business is not the same as HMRC. All they are required to do is report anyone selling over 30 items/£1700 and that is a government ruling agreed with other countries.
But if a private seller accepts eBay's suggestion they should become a business seller and changes over, the seller will have little comeback when HMRC say 'you're trading and have admitted that you're a business seller' and then follow up with a tax demand.

'But if a private seller accepts eBays suggestion they should become a business seller and changes over,...'
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But why would a genuine private seller accept that suggestion, if they're really *not* trading?
They might have to put up with HMRC having a bit of a trawl though their info, but if there's nothing to hide, there's nothing for HRMC to find.....

For information Royal Mail are now charging 30p per parcel to collect. This has only just been reinstated, I didn’t know until last week when I tried to do this

"why would a genuine private seller accept that suggestion"
Apparently, Ebay thinks there are only 2 types of seller - either business seller or private seller running a 'side hustle' (i.e. a business seller).
Ok, there's also a third, 'Other', implying not yet categorised correctly?
And as you may have witnessed, whenever a newbie posts in the community they're usually invited to upgrade to a business account as the immediate answer to all their selling problems. As if life really was that simple? 😉

Only, that's not at all true, is it?
They're advised to upgrade to a business account by other eBay users (not by eBay, given that this is a community forum) when it's blatantly obvious that they are a business seller selling on a private account.

From what I remember not so long ago ebay began, almost randomly, to 'suggest' that private sellers needed to re-register as business sellers simply because they had breached one or other of the thresholds. I remember one private seller who had sold 3 items of high value on a new account, told that they needed to re-register as a business. Another seller, who had been selling off their stamp collection for years was pressurised because they had sold many items, but all relatively low value, advised because of their sales volume.
There were others not quite so absurd in themselves but which were even more abhorrent when business sellers on this board were pointing out to ebay, on a daily basis, that were hundreds of sellers who were blatantly businesses pretending to be private sellers, but which ebay totally ignored.
This 'advice' was clearly very selective and from what I read, always incorrect.
Surely it is wrong to knowingly register incorrectly, whichever way round it is done? Just as it is wrong for ebay to 'advise' on how anyone should register or re-register unless they have a cast-iron case to back up that advice? Once someone puts themselves in HMRCs firing line by registering as a business seller the repercussions can be far more serious and long lasting than HMRC having a 'bit of a trawl through their info.', particularly for anyone not used to dealing with them and their systems.

Copied and pasted this recently posted review from trustpilot .
Sums it all up really..
An absolutely terrible company which now seems rotten to the core and run more like a mafia protection racket who want to dictate everything you do, how you do it and then charge you for it.. Twice..
Do the right thing and get out now before they implode and take your held to ransom ebay balance funds with them.
Over 19 thousand and climbing negative reviews can't be wrong.
Pull the plug NOW...

No, as previously pointed out, newbie posters to the community are often 'helpfully' advised to upgrade, and it's not just from other users. I have received at least one message from Ebay suggesting I do, possibly on the basis of a single month of high volume sales. As if that meant I was running a business?
I can confirm I am definitely NOT. As would be blatantly obvious to anyone interested in that sort of thing.
Even if not 'obvious' let's not forget how ignorant we are?
There is a great deal of confusion created and it often seems to be quite deliberate. As you say, Ebay is not in the business of getting involved in anything. Perhaps they should do?
Yup, 'scattergun' was one way to describe the kneejerk advice to upgrade. 'Desperate' was another word for it. 😉

Have they put the Royal Mail prices up?
Dunno whether coming or going anymore with this place.

Doesn't seem like we are the customers here. More like captives.

Just my opinion, ebay wanted to test something. Perhaps A.I deciding who was or was not a business operating on a private account. Perhaps which message got the response that ebay wanted, whatever that was.
So they picked some 'low value' sellers who happened to fit the bill in some way, whether or not with a second glance it made any real sense to give the advice that they needed to re-register. If they never sold anything again, ebay minimised its loss.
Those sellers were treated as lab-rats with a total disregard for any consequences that they may suffer for taking ebay's unsolicited advice.

Just checked some of mine.
They were 3.44 for 1kg this morning when I listed them now 3.64 for 1kg and 5.15 for 2kg.
And my pictures have seemed to have disappeared on some old and new listing.
Messing around with stuff again the site is getting worse.

Not sure what's going on. Have a few drafts lined up for the weekend but starting to wonder if its worth just leaving them for now.
Yep some of your photos are missing

£5.15 is the new price for 1-2kg medium parcel, with Royal Mail, which is supposed to be taking affect from 20th May. I can't see £3.64 listed anywhere.

AAAAAGGGHHHH. I've just checked my listings to see if any of the photos had been affected, only to discover on the first one I looked at that it's been changed to Simple Delivery and no custom option. Back down they come 😢
