NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I would prefer to deal with all the postage myself but at least i still get to see my lovely local post office staff when i use V!  I always used to round up the postage (usually between 5-20p) which went towards the packing and the buyers were quite happy with that.  So far i have not had anything that i had listed on here that i cannot list on there.  It is usually simpler to list as well although i think some of their choices could be a bit better.   I also find that when looking for something to buy it is nearly as bad as here, put in a white jacket from a specific brand and you get practically anything but that come up!  Although i do admit i always come back  here first if i am looking for anything a bit 'odd', it is still the best site for it.

@akemp1 totally agree. On V I rarely get a single item purchase, 90% multiples, my favourite was a buyer of 43 items that the V system still managed to correctly weigh in at under 2kg.

At that site I have even added the lowest price item from a seller to trigger a % bundle discount on a higher value item. Like if a seller has a £10 item and is offering 20% off if I add a £1 item that I don't want but can go in the charity bag!

Bundles are great and that's where ebay should be focused as it rewards people for listing and buying lots of items and the discount can be more than enough to cover the platform fees so people are OK paying them as the total can still be less than the individual item prices.

Your points highlight the simplicity of V, if I may add one more as a Pro seller over there the ridiculous unrealistic EDD set by eBay doesn’t exist in any shape of form.

I had several orders overnight all ‘ship by the 19th’, of course they will go today, but just the ease of it and no need to hoop jump all the time. That’s how to manage expectations, by being transparent.

Exactly. An order over there carries a different mindset and less stress. Isn’t that unbelievable, a Pro seller waits 14 days after delivery there for their money and is still less anxious about delivery time than on eBay. The buyers tend to be surprised by same day dispatch as well, they aren’t expecting items to be posted yesterday.

When I buy there then I do tend to be disappointed by the seller dispatch times they can often be 5+ days before posting. I've had some purchases just automatically refund after a week with no explanation on why the seller didn't dispatch although maybe that would also be a useful feature here (unless a delay is agreed)

However I don't agree with the pressure ebay put on private sellers here and how they tell buyers delivery times that don't align with the seller's dispatch policy.

I think there's a middle ground where unless a seller has put an out-of-office on then they should be expected to dispatch within a maximum of 72 hours preferably earlier unless maybe the seller can really only get to the post office once a week or whatever in which case maybe there should be some kind of 'potential delayed dispatch' flag on the listing. It's not that helpful expressing it in days because of course a sale might happen just before midnight when the seller is asleep.

The "people" who run Ebay and their like always think they know best.

They never do though.

It's a word they have no grasp of but just keep it "SIMPLE".

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I forgot to reply to

"Actually despite what we think, the investors are happy and stocks are up."

Admittedly I haven't bothered to check recently but the last time I looked ebay's Major Shareholders were corporate investors, Wealth Management, Asset Management Funds etc. who also qualify as major shareholders in amazon, etsy, paypal and other dominant corporations in the on-line commerce sector.  Naturally they would be, they have Trillions to play with.

But IMO, they are all as far removed from the nuts and bolts of how or why the commerce platforms work as ebay execs. are and all they are interested in is the quarterly statements and bottom line economics.  Moreover they don't really care because if ebay is "up" and etsy is "down", as long as their own bottom line spreadsheets show an overall increase they are "up".  That's ALL that counts.

They have little interest in how ebay gives them the returns they get, as long as they come up to the levels they demand for their own bottom lines to look healthy.

After the '08 banking crisis there was talk about "Wall St. versus Main St." and how the demands of Wall St. was killing viable businesses.  They're still doing it.  The Wall St. tail wagging the real economy dog.  Ebay does what Wall St. demands, how that affects the rest of us doesn't come into the equation, ALL that counts is that the share price and dividend pay-outs LOOK good on the spreadsheet.... for now.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Someone once said :

"Any fool can make something complicated.  It takes a genius to make something simple."

They were right.

What a pity ebay sacked the geniuses and now employs fools.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

@akemp1 @1956glyn  you are both right!  AP saves a fortune on Azn postage. It doesn't necessarily save money overall if you search all over the place for the best deal. But as we know, its ordered, coming the next day, going to your parents if needed, shared with another family member and allows you to watch Neighbours. Rarely does the stuff go missing, get broken, become a messy return or result in serious levels of stress using a customer service team without a clue. All of that has been deemed worth paying for by so many.

SD offers so little in the way of benefits for postage at a premium price. Amzn offer a package of marketing and execution at its best. Ebay offer a higher price delivery product only to intervene in issues caused by delivery and no one trusts them not to make a bad situation worse at that point.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I fear that ebay might think they have already fixed combined postage with the existing crude mechanics of pushing a multi-item basket up to the next postage price band.

I found this recently when a customer bought two similar items, each listed with small parcel 'simple' delivery, and which could have been sent together in ONE single small parcel, and when I got the details from eBay they had charged the customer the medium parcel rate, almost twice as much as a small parcel, and I had to go with that. The customer asked about the excess postage and I explained that eBay make the decision, and keep the money, and I couldn't refund the excess. So another unhappy customer - thanks eBay!

It's amazing that after 30 years ebay have lost the capability to run this website properly.

It's e-commerce - this technology was supposed to have been nailed in the late 1990s.

And here we are wondering why this website cannot offer buyers a fair postage rate.

Not to mention a search function that does the job you'd expect it to do.  In fact although I wasn't here 30 years ago, I'd lay bets that the search function was better then than it is now.

I wasn't here 30 years ago but yes I can confirm search worked a lot better when I joined 24 years ago.

There are some things that have improved over that time to be fair but not delivery or search.

Ebay "home of the broken technology and fleeing customers".

Yes, it's spot on. 👍

Curtis has nailed the beginings of Ensh**tification.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I won’t be selling anymore either. I tend to sell reasonably high end items as always sent via Royal Mail special delivery even sometimes when the postage costs weren’t covered. Just for peace of mind, I’ve had two items sent to me that have gone missing since they started this idiotic system so now I won’t buy expensive items either. What a shambles. They clearly don’t want private sellers anymore.
