AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Yes, buying & printing the label should just register as 'label created', and 'dispatched' should be when the seller has actually done the dispatching - like when you used to be able to click that little parcel icon...

I have sold two items by stupid (simple) delivery, one parcel, one large letter, I got proof of posting for both, you should have been given proof that you handed it over.

@chew3953 wrote:Just came back from the post office having sent my final two parcels. Didn't get a proof of posting because they don't give them for SD parcels. Proof of posting is really important to sellers. We need to get that so we have concrete proof that we posted it!
The Post Office does normally provide proof of posting for Simple Delivery items but they are currently experiencing problems with Royal Mail Tracked 48 labels (not just Simple Delivery ones) which is preventing them from doing so.

I am about to take my SD RM48 tracked parcel to the post office. I note there is a tracking number on the order details in 'My ebay'. I clicked on it and it worked as far as it could. Remains to be seen if it updates when I hand it ver at the PO. For what it's worth when I have sent stuff for myself using RM 48 tracked in the past I asked for a confirmation at the PO counter and was told 'we don't give a paper receipt any more, however the tracking status has been updated. I can't speak for today or via SD though. I wish I'd first blundered into SD with something cheaper than a £450 camera! I am never ever...ever... going to sell anything of value on eBay again unless things change.

Just dropped off my FIRST PACKET using SD and the postmaster said there is a problem with scanning Ebay labels??? In a few years time when students are being taught Business Studies. Ebay will be shown as a example on how NOT TO RUN A BUSINESS.. Talk about SELF DESTRUCTION.. It's turned out to be a catastrophe.

You do get a paper receipt with RM48, this one I got on 25/7/25. I also got one on 31/7/25, but can't now find that one!!

Good luck! Hope camera (& case) arrive safely... 🤞

I keep forgetting to send screenshot! This is the receipt you should get.

I did get a receipt from the second post office I tries but what a B**L ACHE

I am back from the post office. I actually have a headache. Here's what happened. Forgive the bullet points but I don't have the energy for complete sentences....
Scanning for SD packages does not at the moment work across the network
Regular RM 48 packages are fine.
I have a 'proof of posting' which does show the correct delivery postcode but no tracking number
I am told once the parcel is collected it will be trackable
The lady at the counter wrote down the tracking number for me but of course that's on the label anyway
i posted the case separately without issue
So fingers crossed! Which is precisely what you don't want to see when £450 of your stuff disappears into a sack!
PS This is irrelevant except for my state of mind! I arrive at little post office inside a CoOp prewound for trouble. One customer ahead and it's something complicated. No staff visible. Two ladies then appear. The one that was helping the customer got stuck so got the boss. Boss helped and I said a cheery 'hello' as she ignored me and walked off. Ok stay calm I thought you must have be on her break. She reappears after a couple of minutes and gets to the counter still eating. She says nothing as she's got a mouthful but raises an enquiring eyebrow. I smile at her and say 'I am just waiting for you to finish your tea'. What I really meant was 'Im just waiting for you to empty your mouth . She mumbled 'it's alright' as if it was her call. She the says something and I have to get her to repeat as it's unintelligible.

I just checked and there is nothing on the ebay website about the SD/RM problem. What the actual duck!? One of only two possible channels for shipping thy allow is down and they don't alert their users especially those that have recently made sales? I say it's down as I expect many would not have left their package at the post office like I did and I probably shouldn't have either.

The buyer has just contacted me! He didn't reply to me because he got no notifications in his email. I have wasted s much time and energy I could cry!

People stop putting yourself through this hassle.....just stop...... If you keep using Simple Delivery, or work arounds of it, nothing is going to change , do you really want to be dealing with this hassle every single time you list and sell an item.... eBay has already gone back somewhat on Buyer Protection Fee's, because people are giving up using eBay, and the only way eBay are going to change Simple Delivery back, is if people refuse to use it.... everyone knows it's terrible, and everyone knows the effects it's having, so just stop....

Buyer now confirms that he never 'reached out' to ebay so that message from them was a flat out lie. I totally agree with 'Conversationalist' I only used SD by accident and won't sell on ebay again until it goes. Also if I get enough evidence I will progress the matter with the relevant trading authority. Maybe even the knowledge of that will help dissuade ebay.
BTW I am a retired sales and marketing manager in software so I have time for this s*** plus some understanding of online commerce and such.

Hi all
This may be of interest
I sold an item on Sunday and the buyer has paid
the postage is by my own way as I’ve always done
however when I tried to scan the tracking number it wouldn’t work so I entered manually & assumed it was the printer.
when I arrived at the post office the very efficient lady tells me she can’t scan it because there is a problem with the horizon software ‼️ she can only give me a receipt
so this isn’t a SD problem it’s anything 48 hour
now presumably this has a knock on effect down the line and will have implications for the poor postie at the door
how does that effect us getting paid I wonder
on the subject of SD , I use my phone for everything eBay related ( due to eyesight issues I can’t use a keyboard and don’t have a printer > someone else has always managed the postal system directly with RM and printed off the pre paid label
So SD is not an option for me the post office shop doesn’t have a printer either
im very very annoyed 🤬😡 and this being forced on us i used to enjoy the selling , the packing , the feedback, that’s all being taken away
I was happy just do my own thing and have had few issues over the years
as such I’m waiting as soon as eBay changes my listing they are going to bd deleted ( no longer for sale )
thank you for reading
Dave

'Buyer now confirms that he never 'reached out' to ebay so that message from them was a flat out lie.'
These new 'auto-messages' are bad enough as it is, but telling sellers their 'buyer has reached out...' when they haven't, is only going to add to the confused state many of us are already in. What is the point of stopping buyers & sellers from exchanging messages about postage, in the normal way?
'Your buyer has reached out about their order' ... trying to make contact from the other side, is what that sounds like... 👻

A lot of people have been having trouble with the labels this weekend.
I always use the completely trouble free and reliable and guaranteed way to reach the purchasers of (and ebay take note) stamps.

Completely agree Department28.
Ebay taking over the messaging system maybe ok for busy business sellers but with private sellers its different. Private sellers are selling things that they have usually owned for decades (in some circumstances) and sometimes it can be quite an emotional thing to part with. There might be some bit of interesting history that goes with the item that the buyer might or should know about.
You can make some nice friendships with some buyers. I used to have one lady that purchased a few books from me over time and we used to exchange Christmas cards for a few years. Another lady in Texas used to tell me of her rose bushes and how she would battle with keeping them alive in the heat. We all used to make the most of the messaging system.
All of that personal touch will go in ebays drive to streamline.
It just reminds me of a big famous mainstream shop that always had assistants around that you could ask any questions about sizes/fittings etc. They were gotten rid of so you are just left looking up in the air for the 'pay here' sign but don't ask any questions, they won't have a clue - they just want the money.

Just out of interest - do these 'auto messages' only happen with SD
