AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Just to add to this, I had a real pain in the **** trying to list some stuff last week, because of Simple Delivery being so broken, and managed to do it, with the help of someone on here, but that seems to be one of the issues, it's just so difficult to navigate when something doesn't work, which seems to happen often. As a reasonably frequent seller of 22 years, I'm finding that it is such a pain to get anything done, that I've been given no choice, but to sell elsewhere. The items I listed last week haven't sold, despite being the cheapest on eBay, and popular items with extras. The other thing that seems to be killing it, are the discount codes for business sellers. So when eBay adverts claim that it is free to sell on eBay, this is not quite correct. While it may seem like that on the surface, the reality seems to be, that a private seller is up against many factors that mean that they have to significantly drop their prices to align with business seller's prices, meaning that we are still paying a fee, indirectly, by being forced into lowering our prices, quite significantly.

I now buy what I can directly and in most cases get a great service and better prices. So now my buying here is minimal, and my selling here is non existent at present. This platform is sinking fast. SD has more holes in it than a string vest and has been broken since day one. CS agents get told what to say on a daily basis. User retention here is dire. Respect for users is Zero. Everytime a hole is plugged here another appears. Proper communication and information here is literally non existent. All that's happened here recently is that private sellers and buyers are paying Premium and Inflated prices for Second rate services all round.

So not only are things confusing for sellers, but some buyers are confused too.
When will this platform realise that Private Sellers and postal Companies and Couriers know more about Postal Services than they do here.
The broken SD just shows that this platform is way out of it's depth regarding postage.
In fact at the moment on here they are doing a very poor job of people selling and buying easily, which this platform used to be the number one place to go to.

It really is quite worrying when I spend a few days just browsing the forums to see what the general feeling is here.
Literally every day here it's like opening a Trick or Treat box. The problem is that for every 100 boxes, only 2 might be treats and the other 98 are tricks.

'Your buyer has reached out about their order. Since you used SD, we'll work with your buyer directly on any delivery related questi....'
Oh, so this is the next bit of interference, is it? SD messages popping up to tell you you've got a message...
Was there nothing for you to click on to see what the buyer was 'reaching out' to you about?! Perhaps it was just a 'thank you' for your message, but perhaps SD thinks any delivery-related messages must go through 'it'... 🤖

Even more potential control over sellers and buyers.
How on earth can a completely broken thing communicate better with a buyer than the actual seller.
I guess the less communication between a seller and a buyer suits the platform at present.

Just sold my first item with SD. I messaged my buyer as I always do just saying thanks and I'll send tomorrow etc and on the message page just under my sent message, eBay have put 'Your buyer has reached out about their order. Since you used SD, we'll work with your buyer directly on any delivery related questi....'
OMG Big Brother is getting bigger and bigger. It's more work for them, so what's the betting that they'll either add a new fee in due course or increase the existing ones to cover the extra work. And you gotta ask, what's in it for ebay? If nobody else but ebay sees the messages, are they using the contact to upsell the buyer, for instance? "You've bought this DVD, now would you like that one too?" Only one thing's for sure - they'll have to make money out of the extra work and it's gotta come from somewhere.
Has anyone here bought anything from ebay and got a message from them?

If you're doing 98 tricks every couple of days I hope you're using a 'gentle' lotion!! 🙂

No nothing to click, can't even see the end of the sentence. No notification. I just happened to look again at the message I sent and there it was. No idea if the buyer was trying to reach me or what!?!

Your reply got me thinking.
I agree that trying to upsell is a possibility ?.
Is SD getting involved the platforms way of trying to make communication between seller and buyer less ?.
Is it the platforms way of trying to justify the Inflated SD charges ?.
Would the message from SD to the buyer say "sorry I am broken at the moment".
Or is it just more of the Big Brother control thing ?.
Yet again though, it ends up with sellers having more questions than answers ?.

Yes, I was just passing the time of day with a buyer about her dads pottery i was selling and eBay joined in on every message.
Ignor

Really?? Blimey if we can't speak to the buyers now that's shocking!

"Yes, I was just passing the time of day with a buyer about her dads pottery i was selling and eBay joined in on every message."
😮
How rude to interrupt!

yes I got that as well. What a load of AI tosh. I've had a private account for 24 years, I can't be bothered with the hassle either. There is another platform. I paid a life time membership years ago, when someone set up a site when ebay started 'upsetting' everyone. I bet if you google 'selling platform like ebay one off lifetime subscription' you'll find it

It seems there is not much left now, that they are not sticking their beaks into...
The great thing about the 'old eBay', was that you could list an item, do a bit of browsing/shopping, send messages, leave feedback, post an item, and sort out any refunds etc, all without hardly any interference from eBay. You could just get on with it.
Now it is almost impossible to do anything without being told what to do, and when to do it... constant pop-up boxes, reminders, hints, nudges, promotions, recommendations etc, etc. Since the BPF, even item prices are no longer free from interference. And, of course, SD has pretty much taken control of postage.
If they have started interfering with messages between buyer & seller, in order to pester us with more 'things you might also like', it really is the giddy limit...! 🙄
24-07-2025 4:44 PM
They have already started leaving messages for buyer
24-07-2025 5:15 PM
2026 - ebay insist that you take a video of the contents of your home so that they can tell you what they want you to sell.

Hopefully they will explain: collection with Royal Mail booked by your seller on eBay is not working, there will be a delay in delivery due to this error.

I feel it's more likely to be along the lines of "Thank you for your purchase. We have told your buyer to post your item yesterday and you should expect to receive it later today. If you do not receive it today, let us know and we will refund you from the seller's account. We hope you will enjoy your purchase once you do receive it."

That message would be totally unacceptable!! "We have told your buyer to post your item yesterday and you should expect to receive it later today" that's ok, but to potentially go on to say "If you do not receive it today, let us know and we will refund you from the seller's account" is NOT acceptable. Even guaranteed delivery can fail, through the courier's fault, so money should not be refunded from the seller's account while the item is STILL in transit, and will almost certainly arrive. That would be tantamount to theft by eBay from the seller.
