NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Two days is a ask ! All my local drop off points are letter boxes with the nearest post office doing one hour week on a Thursday. posting has to fit in with shopping trips or on the way home from boot sales ,so the winter months will be tough and will not be doing special trips out for post , (did they not say distance would be taken in to account when setting despatch times ? )

Will accidents be taken into account I wonder, I broke 2 bones in my foot yesterday so will have to get someone else to do any posting for me, and it would have to be at their convenience, not ebays! I'm afraid life does get in the way sometimes!!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Lost a sale last week due to Simple delivery, didnt get a choice of who to send with ebay chose Evri who I refuese to use due to having too many lost or missing parcels in the past and it taking an age to get monies back.  Didnt even select postage they just emailed me a prepaid postage label. Phone support who were zero support and stated I had to use their Simple delivery but could remove Evri next sale, not happening explained why, Ebay totally not interested.

Cancelled the order and then deleted around £700 worth of products for sale on Ebay and put them all up for sale on Gumtree.

Do they not get it Royal Mail and Evri arenot the only delivery companies in the UK, items package so they will not get damaged in transit can end up larger than what they state your parcel will be and RM then wont accept them.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I have tried selling my items that are under £10 but it doesn't work. They still want 'special delivery' I tried selling a couple through Royal Mail tracked 48 but the drop down option in the item details page where you could enter ' mark as dispatched' and tracking details are not available. I have decided it just isn't worth it anymore. Goodbye Ebay.

If you cancel the sale or refund the buyer they cannot leave feedback.

"If you cancel the sale or refund the buyer they cannot leave feedback".

I think that is incorrect, the only time a Buyer can not leave Feedback, is it they do not pay for an item, if they pay for an item and you cancel the sale, they can still leave Feedback

Yes it is incorrect and I just tested it by leaving feedback for a seller who had to cancel an order I placed. It was still positive as they contacted me quickly, apologised and refunded. I was going to leave no feedback but just left feedback to test this assertion as I felt it was not true.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

They've lost me as a seller and won't be returning unless custom postage is brought back and they take their heads out their you know what's and see the unhappiness they are causing.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Ebay doesn't appear to appreciate its own USPs regarding its platform. The sections of business they're destroying are the sections that set them apart from the competition. If they're not careful, what was once a great business model will be destroyed.

eBay’s Original USPs (and What They're Undermining)
A marketplace for everyone – casual sellers, collectors, hobbyists, businesses Private sellers increasingly pushed out by business-centric policies
Flexible shipping options – post how you want, from wherever Mandatory Simple Delivery eliminates choice
Auction culture and rare/unique items Platform now skews toward fixed-price and new goods
Low-barrier selling – sell from your drawer, loft, or shed New rules and fees make it hard for casual users
Diverse global inventory Complex shipping discourages international sales
⚠️ eBay Risks Losing What Made It eBay

What once differentiated eBay from Amazon or Etsy is now being flattened into sameness. By removing casual sellers and hobbyist-friendly policies:

Buyers lose access to unique, vintage, or ultra-niche items

Sellers feel punished for operating outside rigid systems

The community atmosphere dies — replaced by faceless transactions

This is the death of the boot sale spirit — and with it, the charm that built eBay’s global user base.
What Could Happen If They Don’t Listen

A slow bleed: more sellers migrate to platforms like Vinted, Facebook Marketplace, or niche sites

Loss of buyer loyalty as prices go up and uniqueness disappears

Reputation damage that even better shipping and buyer protection can't fix

Collapse of private-seller inventory, which drives traffic and engagement even if it's not always high volume

What Can Be Done?
eBay won't shift course unless it sees:

Widespread seller attrition

Buyer disengagement

Public/media scrutiny

Strong internal pushback from within its own teams

It’s also critical that seller voices are heard clearly and persistently. If you're part of forums, subreddits, or communities, organizing feedback, petitions, and coverage can help force reflection.

eBay is damaging the parts of its ecosystem that set it apart — and if it keeps trying to become Amazon, it may simply become a worse version of it. Homogenizing the platform risks making it irrelevant.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Yeah as much as Bezos can suck eggs, if I am going to buy 'new' stuffs and the like, I'll do it on Amazon with free next day delivery via Prime, not here...  also flooding the market with stuff from Temu, AliExpress and the like isn't much good if I am happy to wait five days or so and get it direct from China myself at the cheaper price before resellers here add a cut.

I have noticed a drop in Games Workshop, Warhammer sales from private folks here as well, seems facebook groups and other places are having more interesting things turn up rather than here which is mainly a collection of folks hoovering up all the bargains and trying to sell models at three times the price they where.  (Although to be fair that's been the case for a while, I rarely brought here anyway, mostly sold my extras)

Not sure which are the best alternatives to selling though, a certain other e-named site seems to want a high 'buy in' just to sell anything at all, well unless you are happy with a handful a month, and it doesn't seem to have a very active hobby community (Warhammer, RPGS and the like) anyway, but maybe the £60 would be worth it long term.  Not sure.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

For eBay listings by private sellers, items under £10 and of large letter size do not require Simple Delivery. Simple Delivery is mandatory for most items, but there's an exemption for items under £10 and letter-sized, which includes large letters, according to eBay UKYou can choose to use your own preferred postage method for these items.
Well this is a load of rubbish as I have thin items of clothing that fit through the large letter slot and under £10 yet ebay have them under simple delivery and I am unable to change them to custom delivery .
This isn't true because I have a lot of clothing for sale that is under £10 and much of it is large letter size and I was sending all my stuff with custom postage but yesterday I was changed to simple delivery on everything .

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Adding to the list, sorry about that.

For all my items I use/used Royal Mail tracked 24 hr signed for frin the app with the QR code... simples, now this is impossible as the buyer decides to use untracked delivery, and I cant even change the label at my cost.

I choose the way I post, because this gives me assurance as a seller. The tracking signed for is no use and far too prone to disappearing items.

I've got a parcel stuck in transit since may and have had to pay from my own pocket for oranising alternative delivery.

As a seller, you cant even choose to upgrade at your own cost the postage the buyer selected to pay for, this is a bad joke.

This is true also for eBay return labels, as one of my returns disappeared last week.

To be fair, customer services have rectified two of the issues without further delay, but there's nothing simple with the need to contact customer services everytime simple delivery gets complicated.

Anyway, sorry about that 😐

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Even if the items of clothing are under £10 and fit into a large letter size, would they weigh under 100g? I think items have to be under £10 and under 100g to be allowed to be sent by Custom postage... 🙄

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Unless they've changed it, I thought that "letters" didn't include "large letters", and that large letters had to be sent by Simple Delivery.

Where does it say that large letters are included?

There is no longer any mention of the 100g criteria on eBay's help pages.

Sneaky - they removed a few words. I just checked the cached version of their SD web page on Internet Archive and it did used to say 100g. Maybe too hard to implement so they gave up?

I wish they would publish a forward schedule of concessions, fixes and enhancements so people could get a feel for when this horrible monster might become acceptable.

I managed to take 2 more orders today under the old postage system - a small win.

I still have listed some items that are under 100g AND under £10 listed on eBay with custom postage, which I can post with an 87p stamp, my partner cannot find the option to list items like that at all now on eBay, so have they sneakily removed even that option too, at least for some people?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I'm looking at ebid to. Seems a good fit with what I'm selling and they don't seem hell bent on self destruction like ebay. I remember what it used to be like here - put a listing up on auction and watch the stacks of bids come in over the last couple of minutes .. it was a bit of a rush. Then the money men took over and began dismantling it until they created the car crash it is now. I used to sell virtually every day .. now my last sale was 3 weeks ago.
