AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

This opting out was available for items under £10 but from today (21st June) I noticed it's no longer an option? Has anyone else seen this?

I have just checked and I can still list letter-sized items under £10 and under 100g and choose custom postage thereby using an 87p stamp.

I was getting this up until yesterday but it's definitely disappeared for me now. I've tried clicking around everywhere and it just won't bring up the custom postage again, even for a small and cheap item. 😞
I feel like they must be phasing it out?
I can't even see anything on any official eBay documentation to suggest it should ever have been there (eBay seems to say mandatory Simple Delivery has been the only option since April?)... 😞
So rubbish and demotivating and pointless...

Sorry for your loss. Seems you are the latest victim of this insidious rollout.
They seem determined to push this unwanted junk on private ebayers to make them stop buying and selling here or at least substantially reduce activity levels.
Their greed and stupidity is causing them to cut open the bird that lays the golden eggs.

"So rubbish and demotivating and pointless."
I don't think that just applies to the fiasco that is SD at the moment.
It just about sums up the whole 'ebay experience' for so many private sellers now.

Just a little something off topic that sums up ebay at the moment. The fact that they constantly remind you to leave feedback for the buyer and what you get is a "Positive" button and nothing else. That shows you the intellectual power that ebay is flexing right now!

Maybe it depends what category you're listing in?

I'm not having eBay tell me how I can post my items so once existing listings are sold I'm out. BYE SIMPLE EBAY XX

Possibly. It's so hard to know. 😞 Do you know if this occasional availability of custom postage - where you click around and for some items, if the category is right, the price is right, it's a waxing gibbous moon on the 13th day of the month, etc - is official or just a workaround?
If it's official, it'd be great to see the actual terms of when custom postage is allowed.

Ive come to the realisation that Ebay do not want Private Sellers anymore. Generally Ebay Private sellers have been using ebay for years and tend to sell a variety of different items and of differing weights & value (not drop shop items from a warehouse that the seller doesnt even posses) and so they dont fit in with Ebays vision of being nothing more than the middleman for 'drop shoppers'. In addition of course Private Sellers are not governed by EU trading law so spoiling Ebays policy of giving even unscrupulous buyers their money back even when its a fraudulant claim.
Well I had a good 12 years ...ill be looking for an alternative & im sure Ebay will be glad to see the back of me !

I think ebay, at least the guys at the top, don't want sellers, full stop. They've been in the job several years, handsome golden parachutes, no need to wait for retirement, walk away and buy a few yachts.

They don't seem to want buyers either.
They just seem to want a business model that is distasteful to nearly everyone.
It feels like Ebay UK is about to be zipped up for hosting on Internet Archive.
Maybe they could start by pickling the management team into glass jars?

I got "the treatment" yesterday.
On Books, Records, Music Sheets, attempts to Revise existing listings or Sell Similar brought up -
"This listing has been updated to be posted with Simple Delivery. Your dispatch time is now 2 days."
(I've never offered 2 days dispatch!)
As I sold one of those existing listings yesterday with my existing Royal Mail shipping, will leave those already there on. If they are changed to SD on sale, I'll cancel the sales.
Attempts to Revise existing listings or Sell Similar on Postcards, Cigarette Cards were OK with no change to SD. ...
so
in future I will not be listing any more books, records or music sheets on ebay.
Their loss, someone else's gain.

I had the same today for new clothing listings, no way to opt out which i suppose is to be expected as clothing is unlikely to exceed the maximum size / weight. For each individual listing I can change the dispatch time to 3 days, but if I then do 'sell similar' the new listing defaults to 2 days, tedious having to change this every time.
If I use the bulk lister to edit these listings I still see my original domestic shipping rates in the 'Postage Details' column rather than the simple delivery bands as you might expect. And if I go to edit the dispatch times in bulk it lets me choose 4 days, 5 days, etc but in practise this seems to reset the listings to 2 days so that is clearly some kind of default that's set for simple delivery even if 3 days is the maximum.

They have literally monopolized shipping by becoming the only marketplace shipping broker on their own site by buying a shipping service from a 3rd party company, attaching their own T&Cs to that service and then reselling it at a profit on their own marketplace platform. That sounds very legit.

Yes I found that out yesterday when I went to relist clothing and everything £1.50 of mine is simple delivery i was totally taken by surprise ,I don't have a smart phone or printer and Ebay said that a 6 figure code that comes with the QR code can be used to get a label from Post office or Evri ,but our post office said they can do it but can take some time to do ,they didn't sound very keen to do it . With Evri drop off shop there is a label printing machine where you can put the 6 figure number in ,but as I haven't tried it yet I am wondering if it is going to mean typing in the buyers address in too .What a faff . Also now in our evri drop off shop they no longer give you a receipt for your parcel but they ask you to put your email address onto a tiny pad thing with your finger .
