NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"Aside from not liking being forced into this, I am really not happy having my precise private address displayed"

I didn't realise this happened with SD labels so thanks for mentioning it.  I've normally just sent by ordinary 2nd class post, but on the odd occasion when I've used RM tracked, I don't think I've ever given my address to the Post Office, let alone had it printed on the label.

I certainly wouldn't be happy about ebay publishing my address.  As a buyer, I can avoid buying from people whose feedback makes me think I should avoid them, but as a seller, I don't have that option.  Unfortunately there are some people who take things further than is acceptable.  Only recently, one of the people who wants this thread shut down was telephoned in real life by a disgruntled forum member having a rant at them.  A disgruntled buyer - whether justified or not - could easily decide to send a similar rant (or worse) by post if they have the seller's address.  So it's yet another reason not to use SD.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I can only speak of my own experience as I printed at home for collection by Royal Mail (this is my easiest and simplest option), but I would presume that using the QR code at the PO would generate the same label. I don't know if the same happens for Evri with SD. Previously, just the postcode was shown on the label the postman brought along with him. I can't remember if it was also on the one you printed from home, or had printed at the PO from QR, if you chose to do this, but there was always the option of doing it yourself with your own label at the PO (although this is more expensive than purchasing online). At least the postcode only narrows it down to 10 or more possible addresses.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Very well said and well put.

The post you replied to certainly didn't justify a useful thread being closed.

Threads asking one question never normally continue for long.

A thread that helps unite genuine private sellers to discuss views and experiences and help each other should be allowed to run for as long as it takes for all these changes and this mess to be sorted.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

This is another example of why a thread like this is so useful.

We still find things out from the experiences other users have had that we might not have known.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I come back every couple of days just to update myself on how fellow sellers are coping (I no longer do sell due to SD), and how procedures are changing. This thread is vitally needed. If it goes were we here at all...

I'm not going to say also in some vain hope that Ebay will have come to their senses cos I know that'll never happen!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I listed some very small packages and selected freight as the shipping method and added that I will be shipping Royal Mail with Free Postage in the description. I have a bid on one so I will know what happens in 4 more days.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I actually gave myself a break from the thread because it was doing ok but to see someone suggest that it should be closed and wasn't useful now made me want to post again.

Even today I've found out something I didn't know so it proves it is still useful and relevant.

It was started to give private sellers a chance to discuss and share experiences and try to help other private sellers.

Obviously business sellers wouldn't appreciate it much because they are used to a cut throat, dog eat dog world.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I check YouTube everyday to see if people have posted videos talking about Simple Delivery, and there is very few on there, and their not really saying anything(which im shocked about,i thought there would be alot of people on there talking about their experiences)....... And so far, reading this Thread is the best way I have found to understand what is going on......

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Thank you. I'm glad you find the thread useful.

A lot of the videos I saw on there were mainly re-sellers and small business sellers which is completely different to genuine private sellers.

The only thing I gained from the videos is that a lot of them use multiple platforms which isn't the same as a private seller who sells personal belongings.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I use a UPS account/pickup for ALL my deliveries. Don't trust Royal Mail, EVRI etc with my electronics test instruments I routinely sell.
Yesterday's sale, a buyer happened to be 5 miles from me so we elected to have him collect despite it not being on my Ad.

Both the above I found there was no way to mark the sale down as delivered/collected/completed.......so I called Ebay and they told me there was no workaround except to:
1. Cancel the sale, re-list and select local pickup option.
2. Select the Royal Mail option and have the buyer get involved with an imaginary Royal Mail delivery!

Yeah, like I am going to confuse the buyer with either of those, and I pay for the Royal Mail delivery even though I didn't use it?
I had to get the buyer to confirm via a message that they had collected the item as proof whilst my item remains 'stuck' in my Orders listing as incomplete, and I wait 10 days for payment.

Called Ebay......they were not any help. I've since pulled all my other Ads........I'll wait till Ebay sort this mess out............23yrs I've been with Ebay, "thanks" they said!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

eBay's Customer Service staff have absolutely no idea what is happening with SD and so this thread is vital for PRIVATE sellers.  People who are still actively selling are sharing their experiences and so this is the only way that the rest of us, who are less brave, can see how the situation is evolving (or not as the case may be).   I suggest that perhaps some of those people complaining about this thread do not understand the need for support and solidarity any more than they understand that some of us are not motivated purely by pound signs.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Absolutely great post and I totally agree.

I think private sellers have helped other private sellers more on this thread than from any official lines of communication which to be honest is literally non existent.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Re your question in post 6558 para 4 ‘ how do I find relevant answer in this bloated thread’. simply ask the question again. Somebody will answer your question if the thread is still running.   Your example of large letters weighing 90g.  Use custom postage if under £10 and under 100g for £1.55 2nd class, would be part of the answer.  Post in you local box or at Post Office with proof of posting.  We are still following this thread.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Posts like yours are so welcome because they inform private sellers about so many things that are wrong with SD and need to be sorted.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

@grapecr-30I watch a few YT ebayers , the only business seller I’ve seen that has tackled it was Married2Reselling, I believe a few of their listings got changed to SD.

My regular watch used to be Nic & Andrea Hills, would have loved their opinion on the latest developments on promoted listing changes - but they are taking a well earned break.
ETA and Andrew Buckle who really isn’t happy with SD!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The issue in that post isn't anything to do with Special Delivery though.

ebay accept tracking for postage and a buyers code for collections. They don't have a policy in place for postal orders that the buyer then chooses to collect - because that isn't what is supposed to happen.

You might argue well ebay should put that policy in place - but they are massive. They don't have time to make human interventions on issues like this. Sad as that might be, there are obivous reasons why they won't start doing things like that.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Your reply is another good example of why threads like this need to run because in most cases a answer will be given if a question is asked without having to trawl through a load of posts.

My understanding is that once SD becomes mandatory the 100g + £10 exemption only applies to standard letter size in certain certain categories and for a large letter the price is at least £2.70 which is almost the cost of a parcel.

Custom postage is no longer there and  it's now not possible to post yourself as eBay does not provide buyer's address until you have purchased their postage!
