NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I don’t send overseas. Have done in very exceptional circumstances a couple of times and it was okay but I won’t due to 1. Worry about the fact it will get there (my daughter lives in the US and a few things I have sent her have been opened before she has received them) and 2. The cost to buyers, I wouldn’t send unless tracked and signed for and it is a lot of money.

Simple delivery is definitely NOT simple either if the postcode you are sending to is assumed to be the middle of nowhere or the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Evri don’t go to a lot of places (not that I would use them anyway), they don’t (correct me if I am wrong) go to the Channel Islands and at times in the distant past I have been quoted so much money to send to say Aberdeen or Dundee it would be cheaper for me to use my railcard, have a nice day out and delivery the parcel myself!

I am like yourself, won’t use it, and if forced to I will leave, never to returrn.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

They could have left it optional.  Then looked at how many buyers liked and used it.  Low take up?  Fix the problems... rinse and repeat.  Get it right and there'd be a high take up.  Win for sellers, win for ebay.  It would require a little humility from the top brass though.

I'm happy to report that I sold a book this morning, first sale for a week, despite 200+ items listed.  And my £3.45 RM postage hasn't been switched to SD, so I can do as normal and book direct with RM.

Normally by now I would have ended and relisted all my items, to get greater visibility, but I'm not going to risk that switching them to SD.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Oh yes, negative feedback for buyers, they could leave that for sellers though! Have you noticed though that there is a new policy that states a seller won’t receive negative feedback as comments, if negative feedback is left for you then your score is adjusted that’s all. I was happy, well not happy but fine for negative feedback to be left for me and I could respond to it and sort the issue if I was able to. Happy to be corrected if the above wrong but that is what I have read.

I was happy to pay seller fees, I was making some money, things were simpler, if it ain’t broke etc.

I remember the days you could leave negative feedback for buyers.  Ads for other sellers didnt appear all over your listings.  No fees on postage.  No caps on postage.  No “mandatory item specifics”.  No AI written descriptions.   All gone now!   Put the site back exactly how it was 15-20 years ago and leave it alone!

I remember there were a lot of sellers with items listed for 99p with the majority of the item price added into their postage cost to avoid fees 🙂

Which could easily have been fixed if max postage by category had been instigated, or some similar solution.  But a fee grab on postage was an easier and more profitable solution.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I used to do all my own postage for sending abroad, but after Brexit I changed to GSP, as it was too much hassle, but I only use GSP for a few things that I sell on auction, but I don't like using it because eBay charges the Buyer a ridiculously high postage rate

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I cannot find an answer to my question that if I sent a 5kg medium parcel by RM they would charge me around £5.15 (forgot the exact amount but not much more). Why then is the only option available to me for this (I don’t use SD btw) a parcel up to 15kg which costs the buyer £10.50? Where is the extra money going and why is it so much more?

They've done that in some categories but that creates a new problem that sometimes the max postage they set was too low for what it actually cost to post so the seller then needs to build the postage shortfall into the item price.

Ebay is a business whose purpose seems to be creating complicated arguments over technicalities.

True, but so what.  When a seller offers 'free' postage, the shortfall is built into the item price.

The real purpose is to increase the CEO's golden parachute when he leaves.  They never stay many years.

Meaning a buyer won't be able to leave a negative comment about a seller/item? When did this start?!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

All abit weird, but now ebay says they will still charge you a the promotion listed fee when your item sells but strangley enough the buyer does not have to click on the promotion route.

So they could be on your listing already browsing then buy an alternative item and ebay still get paid. Strange.

Also another note apparently the seller protection fee is inculed in the gross earnings and ebay deduct it from the private seller rather the the customer so it still counts against the seller for tax purposes as appose to ebay taxes so in effect its still the same only difference is ebay take the fee and the seller total amount is still tallied.

If someone could explain this 🤔

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That seems strange as a buyer I check feedback before buying 🤔 and I read the bad feedback as I'm aware not all buyers or sellers are reasonable and this helps me to make my decision.

"The real purpose is to increase the CEO's golden parachute when he leaves. They never stay many years."

The last permanent CEO, who left unexpectedly at the height of the ebay cyberstalking scandal, was given a golden parachute of $57 million after he'd been 4 years in the job.  The current CEO joined in 2020.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It's strange because ebays goal is to make money hence the reason everyone is on the platform.

I really think ebay need to roll back AI and get back to speaking with sellers.people buy from people because of the connection they provide no matter how small.

Instead of pointing the finger look for solutions to a problem.

Thank goodness they left under a cloud, then. Can you imagine the payout if they had done a GOOD job?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It was a while ago, can’t remember when but if a buyer receives an item, once the initial receipt period (2 days I think) passes and you are paid then eBay give you positive feedback if the buyer has left it or not. Should there be an issue, I think with SD the buyer has to take up issues with eBay, not the seller? If this happens then your feedback score is reduce by 1. Will see if I can find where I read that.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Found this. A bit long reading! Simple Delivery, a streamlined delivery system introduced by eBay, aims to provide an easier way for private sellers to receive automated positive feedback for on-time deliveries with tracking. This feedback is generally given if no negative issues are reported within 7 days.
Here's a breakdown of how it works and what to expect:
  • Automated Positive Feedback:
When a buyer receives a tracked delivery on time through Simple Delivery and doesn't report any issues or open a return request within 7 days, eBay automatically leaves a positive feedback for the seller.
  • Overriding Automated Feedback:
This automated feedback can be overridden by the buyer leaving their own positive or negative feedback.
  • No Feedback Needed:
If the buyer is satisfied with the delivery and doesn't leave feedback, the seller still receives the automated positive feedback.
  • Simple Delivery Requirements:
To be eligible for Simple Delivery and automated feedback, sellers need to use Simple Delivery as their delivery method and the item must meet weight and dimension requirements.
  • Seller Help:
If there's a negative feedback or issue related to delivery, sellers can request assistance through Seller Help.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

That's odd, I have received an automated feedback and I haven't used/won't use SD.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I have a theory that all the half baked changes / initiatives are due to some techy allowing the AI programme access to a website admin section it shouldn't be and is making irratic alterations.

Otherwise someone with high level access is either bloto or asleep at the wheel.
