NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I get that the tax implication of Ebay earnings is an international government requirement that's been brewing for some time . However are the Ebay requests for NI number actually part of that governmental requirement or are Ebay taking this one step further ?

As a now dormant seller I have not been asked by Ebay for those details recently  and cannot remember if I have ever supplied them to Ebay in the past,  but I think not.

So whilst Ebay are require by law to identify individual account earnings does that include collecting NI details of each seller ?? or are Ebay using it as an excuse to collect  more  info .

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Not an excuse to collect more info. HMRC has decided that ebay and other on line sites will collect either a national insurance number or unique tax reference number from its sellers to use in submitting each sellers sales report.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

So glad I've stopped selling here. Looks like too many personal details are required just to sell a few unwanted items.

IEIM902310 - What Information has to be Collected?

The information that must be collected is set out in the model rules. This may include data that Reporting Platform Operators (RPOs) will already collect as part of onboarding and registration processes, or for AML/KYC purposes.

If the Seller is an individual, the RPO must collect:

  • First and last name (and middle name if this is provided)
  • Primary address
  • The Tax Identification Number (TIN) issued to the Seller by the jurisdiction that Seller is resident in, and the jurisdiction of issuance.
  • Date of birth

In the case of a corporate Seller, the RPO must collect:

    • The legal name of the company
    • Primary address
    • The Tax Identification Number (TIN) issued to the Seller, and the jurisdiction in which it was issued
    • The company registration number (CRN)

For UK resident companies, the TIN will be the CRN.

Where the Seller is renting immoveable property on the Platform, the RPO must also collect the address of each property listed on the Platform (see 902520).

This information ensures that HMRC and tax authorities in partner jurisdictions can correctly identify the Seller (or rental property) and can match the reported information with the relevant data held about the Seller (or rental property) effectively. RPOs must therefore take adequate measures to ensure that the information items above

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

But are the requests for NI details down to an  issue that Ebay / HMRC cannot already cross reference Seller info with existing records , as said I haven't been asked and not currently selling if I was asked what are the implications of not giving Ebay my NI number.

Due to circumstances I have always known my NI number off by heart but it isn't the only record that identifies me to HMRC although it is probably the definitive reference if no other information is available .

I do think the "NINO" issues are a side issue to what the major gripes with Ebay 🙂

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

If you’re selling a few unwanted items there’s nothin to worry about

all personal items are not within the tax liability of trading

which begins at 1000 pounds anyway so even if you were flipping things to sell you can do that up to that margin

This advisor has advice that does not meet seller requirments. Either way there is no need to give full bio data for selling secondhand goods which you can sell in a car boot sale.

I'm supposed to be a helper it's just names given to people depending on how many posts they make a day and reactions they get, very misleading

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

At the bottom of one or two of your profile pages there is usually an inconspicuous request asking you to provide your NINO but once you hit 30 sales or £1740 your payments will be put on hold ( held to ransom ) and a big red banner will appear at the top of your summary page telling you to update your tax info to continue to receive payouts.

You will still be able to buy and sell but not access any money held in your ebay balance.

When the above happened to my account i had already withdrew all my funds so don't know how long they intended to withhold my money.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The probable outcome for anyone not supplying ebay with a NI number when asked would be not being able to sell and a hold on any funds held by ebay.

You would probably have to ask HMRC why they have decided to use NI numbers for individuals. By requesting NI numbers ebay is just doing what it has been told to do.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

You'd think full name plus date of birth would be enough to identify anyone.

It seems to work for hospitals and medical centres, places where uniquely identifying a patient is presumably  a core requirement?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Thats the part I do not agree, if NINO is mandatory after certain limit then ban the account why allowing users to sell item and funds to come into Ebay and Ebay hold them? This is not a fair policy.
holding any funds that do not belong to Ebay.

All ebay account that require NINO should be put on HOLD.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Personally, I don't feel safe giving some of my private info to online platforms. Maybe I'm too old school, whatever, but NI? No thank you. It's bad enough I had to provide my date of birth.

Besides, I managed to get over 1000 in sales between Jan 24/Jan 25, I know it still doesn't mean you gonna pay tax if you are only selling your posessions, but two things are bothering me.

1, I made no profit - I sold at a loss. Due to bad financial situation and due to ebay's announced policies regarding payments and postage, I rushed to sell as much I could while I could. Reduced prices to sell before the deadline, at lower prices than I might have had if only I would have been able to continue selling here like we used to. It's bad enough having to sell my stuff to support my living, now I have another worry on my head that goverment is watching what I'm doing in my private life? One of my items sold was worth a few hundred pounds, I sold it approx. for 100 less than what I originally paid on ebay, pity I couldn't get more for a collectible which seems to go up in price each year, but I needed money quick, and ebay will now help the authorities to know about it? I bet authorities can't give a middle thinger some of us are in low paid jobs and only try to get extra cash selling some of our private possesions.

2. I would never provide NI to something like ebay. I get they are only following governments rules, but I  don't trust ebay anymore. I even removed my address off here. I wish I could return as a buyer or seller, but I can't see ebay getting better. They have made too many bad decisions, I would not feel safe now selling here with all the dictartorship regulations and "every buyer's right and every seller is a potentional lier" attitude.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

What is it with some people being rude on here! The fact that edwardian-dreams has been given the tag of’ Advisor’ and you and I ‘Helper’ (whether we liked it or not, we didn’t ask for these tags) have been given due to the amount of postings and contributions we make, nothing else. An ‘Advisor’ is NOT someone who is being paid by eBay, they are simply giving their opinion/advice etc as they see fit. Posts should be respectful, we are in the same boat here, (well most of us), trying to give support to each other because we won’t get it anywhere else!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Many months ago I was asked by Vinted to provide NI number as I had hit 30 sales (£170) as I was clearing out my late wife’s things. Having not heard of this, I did some research and found out why it was “needed” including the government’s own website on NI. That tells you the specific circumstances in which you should advise tell someone your NI. EBAY and Vinted (etc) are NOT listed as someone who needs it. So I didn’t tell Vinted and… nothing happened. They sent off a report to HMRC without NI regardless and as that was last year, guess what? nothing happened. As my sales don’t meet CGT thresholds, sold for less than I paid AND didn’t make a profit - there is no tax to pay. I’ve been selling as an occasional private seller (just 2nd hands things I don’t want anymore) on eBay since 2001 and have never been asked for NI.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Exactly. Vinted and eBay are NOT on the government’s own list of persons that need or should have an NI.

sell for less than you paid - no tax

single item for less than £6000 - no tax

total annul profit of less than £3000 - no tax
