AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

as someone who joined over 23 years ago and occasionally sells on ebay... i can't believe ebay's systems are still so inflexible... recently a buyer who chose "ship" instead of "collect", and ebay can't change it... has led to an ebay agent giving advice (which i followed) , and now another agent says that previous agent was wrong and has now lead to my funds being held by ebay for 2 weeks... (with the 2nd agent saying in polite fashion that sellers need to know the rules... so if you don't follow the rules, you will be punished)
i can't hope for ebay to get better and i can't trust their system anymore
- i don't even buy from ebay anymore, i don't see the point in selling here

Wouldn't sweet it to much, have the feeling eBay has pretty much had its day now.
It may turn around but struggling to see it any time soon, and one things for sure, things never stay the same on the net.
Anyways its beer and curry night 👍

Has anyone else noticed that listings are no longer defaulting to 'simple delivery'?
If I do 'sell similar' from a 'custom delivery' listing it's no longer switching it to 'simple delivery' each time

Yes. I had some listings that had changed to simple delivery but about 2 days ago I was able to edit those back to custom postage. It will likely be changed by ebay on the 20th though.

I hadn't tried until you said, but I've just tried putting a few listings back up and it allowed me to do custom postage. Trouble is, you don't know whether it's going to switch back to SD without you knowing. I'll keep checking and if it switches back, down they come again. It's very tiresome.

thanks rugbyguy I will try that 🙂

Yes, I relisted and the custom delivery was as I left it, before I had to keep changing every one.

I've been thinking, am surprised that unfair competition or prejudice hasn't been discussed, cos as it stands any UK seller is compromised compared to anywhere else in the world due to being the only ones whose items are unfairly and uniquely loaded with these extra fees , costs and hassle

Buyers from outside the UK aren't charged a BPF if they checkout on their own countries eBay site.

It's still not fixed after all this time, but another user did get a reply from CS that they are aware of the issue and are working to fix it.

If i want to buy a widget , you in the uk will be advertising one price whereas Joe in Austrailia will be inherently cheaper, even if the sellers asking price was the same. so who do you think will get the sale?

I relisted a few items because i managed to keep on doing custom postage and when it changed to SD on my lot i still was able to change it so i have listed even more now. Sure they will catch up with the glitch but after having delisted from the 7th April i am just going to carry on now until they do change it.
10-05-2025 7:36 AM
i have been doing mine for a week now since it changed to SD and i check all the time and so far it has not altered.
10-05-2025 7:38 AM
still waiting for one of mine to sell to see what happens with it but fingers crossed...

A number of us did report SD to the Competition and Markets Authority a month ago as a potential breach of competition law as ebay are using their position as the dominant online second hand marketplace to restrict consumers from choosing a non-ebay other postage service. We don't know if the CMA would have done anything to contact ebay but they would have got a variety of reports from forum members on how it impacts them. It will also be affecting other postage companies who rely on ebay seller business so is a damaging change in the delivery market.
If ebay are pausing (or even regressing for converted users) this rollout to deliver more features such as combined shipping and RM priced small parcel then that does suggest they are trying to mitigate some of the consumer harm this causes. Maybe that's on the back of CMA raising concerns who knows.
But some harm will remain for example Large Letter transactions are still at excessive postage rates. This is one area RM are much cheaper than Evri when the item value is upto £20 but Ebay are not offering the best RM rates by only including RM with tracking.

Ah, but when is a 'glitch' not technically a 'glitch'? When it's an Ebay Glitch.
Could it be that Ebay's algos may just be sophisticated enough to identify those sellers who do not like SD and have effectively made it optional just for them? While making it mandatory for other sellers who don't seem to respond to these unwanted site 'developments'?
May 20th may be the true test. Unless yet another Ebay deadline comes and goes with no change?
Ebay have certainly developed a sure fire way to keep users returning to the site every 6 hours or so. 😉

If they were that clever they should just focus on world peace or domination not just how to screw everyone involved in buying and selling second hand junk.

They're too busy chasing the extra pennies. How many more threads like this will we see today or this week?
Unable to mark item as sent, no option under More ... - UK eBay Community
Ebay presently seems committed to poor customer service. Not only poor customer service from Ebay but also apparently poor customer service from sellers too.
For the sake of a few pennies SD is guaranteeing a poor buyer experience. Expect site usage to reduce further?

Agree with you 100% on that.
