NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I quite liked "Sinful Delivery" which was used  by someone on another thread I just read.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The Not Simple Delivery has to be the worst thought out and poorly executed change that any company has ever made.

This thread started on 31st March when I was notified that SD was becoming compulsory on the 15th April. It is now the 1st May and after reading through the posts made over the last couple of days hardly anyone is any the wiser.

Such a confusing mess and even different CS Agents seem to give their own interpretations of the changes.

No one seems to know, not even ebay. Users deserve better than this and should get proper communication.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

This really has become a real shambles now.

BPF should never have been introduced because a lot of sellers would have accepted Sellers Fees being re-introduced because they were transparent. As for SD which is a total shambles even A I can't evolve properly or get things right because of changes being made every other day.

It's no wonder that users, CS Agents, Ebay, and A I are all so confused.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Thank you. I've not posted in a couple of days because I wanted to clear my head but after reading the posts from the last couple of days I had to post my thoughts because so many users have been, and still are being affected.

I can't get over how poorly planned this has been.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I absolutely agree with your post. What you've said are exactly the reasons why I ended my last few listings on the 6th April and have not listed anything since.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

They would have been far better of calling Ebay Delivery service as that is what it is and will eventually become when it the default delivery for everyone, providing it doesn't get canned  .

Calling SD is a monumental  marketing mistake and they really should have left as an option until they iron out all of the bugs etc and made sure that the preferred carrier , I.E cheapest Evri , was  performing  at an acceptable level  . Failing to win over sellers is just plain stupid on Ebay's part and something they could have done a lot lot more to avoid .

Ebay have put themselves in a dreadful position by stopping sellers fee 6 months ago and are now in lose , lose situation and whatever they do now is damage limitation . They should have been selling the "benefits"  of SD as soon as they dropped seller fees , and strangely as much as I hate SD  now there are some benefits for sellers hidden away  .

When SD eventually gets rolled out to all private sellers , Ebay will start to properly understand how complex delivery is when the realise Ebay is not just about shipping 2nd hand clothing etc

My guess is that they didn't do that as it would draw wider attention to the fact this is an anti-competitive product bundling situation similar to how Microsoft were fined millions for pushing Internet Explorer on Windows users in the 90s despite giving it away for free and still allowing users to install alternative browsers.

I guess ebay wanted to maintain the illusion of choice even though it's with harsh consequences for the seller (as their listings will be very unattractive attractive with penalty RM-only rates) and withholding critical information from the buyer that would enable them to understand what quality of service they are buying.

I do hope the CMA at least investigate what's going on here.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I'm not even sure a 24/7 helpline is really that important or even necessary. In the past, when eBay worked as it should, if there was a problem with a transaction, money not paid, item not received or damaged or not as per description, there were processes in place to deal with that and resolve them. Only if there was a major dispute, which was extremely rare, would there need to be an interaction with a real person, but that was done through the messaging system anyway.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

So what is going on? Is it mandatory or not now? Has SD already been applied to some categories and if so which ones and what’s next?

I am just so confused and this thread is getting messy and hard to understand and navigate and alas I fear I am just lost now.

I am on the verge of leaving selling altogether soon, if this situation isn’t cleared up, I just want some more clarity on the situation and what the future holds for us like me private sellers on eBay.

I know that SD will become mandatory and it has kinks quel surprise and it’s already causing chaos at the post offices. But what next for eBay private sellers? How will SD shenanigans look to the buyer?

I tell you how it will look. Us private sellers will get the blame and our good names and reputations will be dragged through the mud because I doubt EBay will own up and take the fall. Oh no they will be careful for sure about any repercussions hitting them and instead it’ll be us the private sellers, who will be paying the price for something out of our control. Since eBay has chosen to this messy simple delivery.

So can we please just stop a moment and reflect on the current situation in a quick summary and another quick summary for what eBay have been BSing about at the current time and what do their plans look like?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It may be weeks or months before everyone is on SD because they are doing it by batches of accounts not as a general thing now. Was stated in community chat yesterday so some people will have it and others not. I could have been selling for the last month instead of taking all my listings off. There is no longer a date when it will happen

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

If only they were a bit more open about everything .  I think the SD change is just a user attribute but they probably have to process and change a whole lot more to make the listing "SD compliant"  .  So process the users listing and then set the flag .

There are going to be some listing that were originally put together years ago .

Unfortunately I have no empathy for the pain Ebay are having to go through  🙂

I agree it's not necessary if ebay's standard processes worked properly but having identified it as one of the few benefits for the buyer fee it's poor that they can't even be bothered to deliver it to a minimum standard that people would expect. It's just another example of ebay misleading everyone on scope to increase prices while delivering an increasingly substandard service.

It's not going to end well for them as people are not stupid and if the price/value of this platform is not attractive buyers and sellers will vote with their feet.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It won't be around for too long - sales will take a bigger hit than their think-tanks planned for and it'll be back to fees. No objection to fees, we're using a service they're providing and paying for it. Where I take great objection is being dictated HOW I interact with other services.

I took my listings off for 2 weeks for a nice break while I digested the news and signed up elsewhere but then put them back on for the past 2 weeks thinking I don't care anymore I'll just let a bit more stuff sell pre-SD (even though I don't feel ebay deserve a penny of profit on those sales) while I gradually move some more of my listings to another place. I'm getting sales at both places but I check daily for SD hitting my account at which point I will go on holiday no-sales mode until I can move all the remaining listings that I think would do better at that place. My strategy is to use both places in accordance to where an item will do better. Not loyal to anywhere anymore.

"if the price/value of this platform is not attractive buyers and sellers will vote with their feet."

I now search on google/shopping for things I want to buy online.  Obviously ebay have entries on google/shopping, but in the last month I haven't found anything that I haven't been able to buy from elsewhere either at the same price or cheaper.  I used to buy several items a month from ebay but since they clearly don't want me as a seller, they've lost my loyalty as a buyer as well.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I've not been getting into doing elsewhere just totally depressed by it all. Have put some back up so like you so i can see when my account is affected. Not sure how they are doing it now alphabetical order? there's thousands of us to get through, accounts in batches.

And now RM are charging 30p per item collection which adds to the cost of packing materials that we can't allow for with SD

That's how I was a month ago but it's so empowering to be multi-platform - it's the difference between being a victim of whatever stupid idea ebay (or whoever) might next announce and being a free spirit able to pick and choose in control of your own destiny. It was a big moment for me a few weeks ago when I sold my first item at another place as it proved to me that I had real choices. I've since gone on to sell more there and have a better rate of sales per listing than here where I'm still not doing badly despite the buyer tax.
