NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The royal mail annouced this in 2022 .........Royal Mail is adding track and trace barcodes to stamps that will also provide smartphone links to videos – starting with a Shaun the Sheep animation.

The move is the biggest change to the way post is handled since the introduction of the Penny Black stamp in May 1840.

The barcode will allow Royal Mail to precisely track and trace every piece of post – in theory cutting the number of items that disappear or are pilfered.

The first of the new stamps, pictured, features the profile of the queen

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

“As it would appear we still have some time before SD is rolled out…”

Am I the only one fully on SD here? Everyone keeps talking about listing not changing, still having time to list using custom….I haven’t had that for a week now in any category.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The stamps will soon become the standard option – the traditional ones will remain usable until January 31, 2023.

It is the first in a series of planned videos to be released during 2022 that will allow customers sending stamped mail to choose which one the recipient can see using a smart phone

These could be special birthday or Christmas greetings.

There has been some fears that barcodes could replace the image of the Queen’s profile, however Royal Mail insists this will not happen.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Someone posted this morning about a board game listing of theirs and SD issues with it, which I took as a sign that the rollout was reaching the Toys & Games category, where my current sole active listing is, and which the BPF rollot took two weeks to get to - mine remained (and still does) unaffected, however, with my 'Custom' Yodel 'Free delivery' still in place...

....out of mere curiosity, this afternoon I did a 'Sell similar' draft from one of my unsold books in the Books, Comics & Magazine category (unsurprisingly), that ended a couple weeks ago, to see what SD's not-as-clever-as-it-thinks-it-is AI would decide it weighs and measures - but most surprisingly, that too allowed me to keep similar 'Custom' postage.

Which suggests that the rollout doesn't, as I'd previously surmised, work its way up through the main categories alphabetically - so I have absolutely no idea how and why some of us still have access to features which others, like yourself, have lost...

....although the thought now occurs that maybe length of time as a member is a factor - started with the newest members, working up to those of us who've been here 20+ years?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

End of the day once it becomes totally compulsory then will be the time to complain proper when they’ve decided x is y and it’s wrong

at the moment it seems everything is in flux still

personally all my small parcels are showing 3.44 postage so that’s ok

not sure I’d be happy with ny large letters I used to post for small items that were priced very low havin to go tracked

Think they got THAT wrong

but more urgent is their NO OPTION for items between 2 and 10 kgs with royal mail

you have to pay for the 20kg option

this is wrong this needs to be sorted

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Just had another look at new listing , anything that say Standard delivery is  SD from what I can see and the postage pricing is all over the place  .

Most private sales still seem to be on custom listing with either the specific courier listed or it stating other,  none that I am looking at would be classed as exclusions , all above 250g

I doubt this is how Ebay wanted it to be 4 days after the saying that all Private postage would be SD  after the 15th .  They have got  real problems but that what happen when you don't listen

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The barcodes on new definitive stamps are not 'track and trace' - the codes are there to prevent (reduce) fraud by giving each stamp a unique identifier. Thus once a stamp is use, another stamp with the same code (a fake) can be identified. The code does not provide a track and trace facility. Any item of post can have any number of codes on it, or none, because commemorative and special stamps to not carry barcodes.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Something wrong ?

er yes

what are they doing. Sleeping all day!?

you’d think all these little problems were rocket science

maybe my standards are too high for a billion dollar company not being able to get basic postage issues right

oh well slaps own wrist then

to me it’s saying they’re spending nothing on getting it right

no money no time no energy

if I had  my own business id tic every bloody box before I sold myself to the public

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Sorry, are you using a time machine...  "will remain usable until January 31, 2023" and "videos to be released during 2022"?

As for there being "fears that barcodes could replace the image of the Queen’s profile, however Royal Mail insists this will not happen"...

In 1874 the Universal Postal Union exempted Great Britain from its rule which stated that a country's name had to appear on their postage stamps, so a profile of the reigning monarch was all that was required for identification of Britain's stamps. To this day the UK remains the only country not required to name itself on its stamps. For all other UPU members, the name must appear in Latin letters.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

You would expect  around 75% of items to fall into Small packets under 1KG category , so you would expect to see 75% of postage costs the same .   Its so random

As I am not selling I am not seeing the seller experiencing this 1st hand  but if  you cannot specify the dimension and weight  how can it ever be correct .

The stuff I am looking at is the kind of stuff I sell so just by the pictures I can work it out what it should be . Its impossible for an "AI bot" though , which to me is where the problem lies

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I usually tailor my listings close to 2kg, its easier to sell an 1800gm  bundle of paperbacks than a single 1100 gram single hardback. Both are same postage costs and I'm trying to give my customers a good deal.

Getting rid of the up to 2kg band is blatent greed. I can't justify an unnecessary addition of nearly £2 on a £8.50 secondhand book

"Sorry, are you using a time machine... "

Oh, I wish that we were - then we could all go back to a happier time when being on eBay was fun...

....yes, there's still a 'buzz' from winning an item, and seeing bids on ours - but it's not like it once was.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Especially when that stupid robot is guessing the weight of a one off collectable, or a book published before IBSN was introduced. I have had trade catalogues weighing over 3 kg for a single volume. A late 19thC Illustrated London News combined annual collection is a very hefty tome

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

They do though “recommend” postage

nd if they  get it wrong it’s down to them to pay if you list with the “recommended”  postage and it’s not enough

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

No

sd does small parcels  up to 2kg

ignore were it says max dimensions (medium parcel)

go by the price of postage

it’s true though that it’s a *bleep*py system where sellers have to find their way in the labyrinth of the new system with no input whatsoever in any shape or form from eBay

sooo unprofessional
