AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

They’re selling the “service” called simple delivery I guess so can add extra for dealing with them for claims of loss inr and damage etc
They have their bases covered I’m sure
mind you vinted offer Royal Mail tracked but only charge what RM charge and they deal with claims too
so that’s that theory out the window

But Ebay aren't selling a Royal Mail product for over its value as its the same price as it would be if you purchased it on line . The only rational explanation is RM are giving Ebay significant commission on each sale on the basis they will have huge proportion on all Ebay packages as a result . That could be deemed as unfair , especially given the price the Post Office counter charge for the same service.
I would guess Ebay get nothing now or less commission if you buy an RM label through the none Simple Delivery route now it just a hidden link to the RM websiite .
If Ebay don't get an financial benefit it just makes even more ridiculous

The other place are still charging the old rate so are actually 6p cheaper than RM tracked-48 at the moment.
I think some of the problem is I believe ebay SD is using tracked-24 when most people are fine with tracked-48 and put no value on the difference as long as it's RM, tracked and not Evri people are generally happy.
I'm still shocked the other place only charged me 43p buyer protection fee when ebay would have been £1.78

Not even a superkings packet. Most probably just standard size. It does make me think were things beginning to look a bit bleak because this seems so rushed it has a slight tinge of desperation.

There is no possible way that they would do anything if there was no financial gain even if it seems that way. They would already have plans in place regarding how to gain from introducing things. Especially as they are compulsory things so you are right regarding what you say.

That is a crazy difference in buyer Protection charges. I guess that's why so many people everywhere not just here say it's best to shop around.

Lol turn my back for half a day and #77 is now #94!...
Anyway we went to post sales pre SD issues at local convenience shop that has a Post Office and Evri service and with a grin asked if they were prepared for Simple Delivery. Blank faces.... didnt know what it was and they hadn't heard anything about it (and obviously dont use ebay) It might be time to break out the popcorn and sit and watch the absolute debacle.
(Re letter/large letter I think you have to request some kind of tracking as all we had was a proof of posting with no reference so a nice message from ebay re funds not available for a couple of weeks but we will live lol.)

It really is worth watching what happens. Especially as Post Offices can make their own minds up regarding this. It's going to get better to watch than any soap.

This is my main concern about simple delivery, if the post office doesn't know they are supposed to accept ebay simple delivery packages with the wrong postage on them, understandably they are going to refuse it.
Also, apart from informing all of the 11,000 post offices in the U.K. about this policy, there are also all the thousands of staff that handle post in delivery offices etc who might reject a simple delivery package that has the wrong postage label on it, even if it was accepted in the post office.
I don't want to be put in the position of taking my parcel to the post office and having an argument with my local post office that they are supposed to accept my parcel with a wrong postage label on it.

I guess their only way of squirming out of that situation here will be to suggest booking a collection.
07-04-2025 10:20 PM
That wouldn't put me at ease as my parcel with an incorrect postage label could be intercepted at any point in the royal mail network.
The alternative of course is to take a hit and buy another 'correct' postage label out of my sales proceeds.

Given how bad this has been thought out I think there is plenty of scope to force Ebay and RM to change
What Ebay doing is fundamentally suspect and the more noise the closer people will look . The problem with us being individual sellers we don't have much individual clout but there are more influential parties that could be interested
I think Postmasters when they realise the implementations to their business will kick up a stink .
If RM have colluded with Ebay that could be big . I think RM have taken a carrot based on Ebay forecasts that were based on boom period when they weren't charging private seller fees and not what the reality will be after Simple Delivery and Buyer protection kicks in as I think they will get 20% of the business they thought they would get and less money per item . RM might reconsider there own best interest the more Ebay stick their head in the sands .
I just want common sense to prevail and although we don't have much leverage we neither have that much too lose , which cannot be said for Ebay or RM here

There are so many glitches in this at the moment and no wonder so many like yourself have concerns as there are only 8 days before they give their definitive announcement.

I wonder how much money someone was offered to try to persuade post offices to accept parcels with incorrect postage on them. It goes completely against how they have always worked and I'm sure some postmasters and post office staff will not be happy about it.

I haven't taken my listings off but I am checking them regularly, so far they haven't been interfered with. Once they are I'm going to be checking them thoroughly to see what is going to happen if I sell an item. If it doesn't look good I will be another seller that has ended their listings and see if this is permanent or if ebay backtracks due to the backlash.
07-04-2025 10:34 PM
At this point I don't blame you. All you can do for now is keep a eye on your listings as this is officially only day 1 of the changes being implemented.
07-04-2025 10:37 PM
I anticipate that it will take quite some time for ebay's system to update hundred's of thousands (?) of listings, violating them and forcing their simple delivery onto them.
07-04-2025 10:41 PM
The thought is so annoying. I'm really going to take my time in deciding on if I'm going to list here again. But the only carrier I trust are RM but I won't end up being able to deal with them direct if I sell on here again.

Plus I hope SD would be quicker at sorting problems out than normal problems are sorted out on this platform.

Just seen the Ebay free to sell add on Sky Sports @ 10:30
I have submitted a compliant to the ASA as its simply not true to say its free to sell as the Buyer Protection surcharge will directly effect the eventual sale cost and therefore a cost against the buyer and more than the cost of where honest seller fees were in place and transparent to the buyer .
Its a valid complaint worth making and something everyone can do if they want !
