Just had a potential buyer message saying "p2p please" Do they mean they want to bypass the Ebay payment system? Sounds unsafe to me.

Do they want the Pit to Pit measurement?
P2P is probably Pit to Pit if you didnt state it on the listing and it is an item you wear on your top half...
Not everything is a scam...😂

Yes. I’d ignore and block, now. I wouldn’t want to risk a purchase from that person. Even a ‘legit’ one.
Is the item in a category that the buyer protection has gone live on - electronics?

Assuming they're not in the UK they should see the cost via ebay's global shipping on the listing at their end. Just remind them of that, they may be new. You won't know the final charge to them anyway.

Have you asked them what that means?

No it's an item of clothing. They have all positive feed back on their eBay profile but as a newbie to selling I'm naturally cautious. Thanks for replying.

That's just weird, I always thought it meant person to person, but have no idea what it could be in this context.
If I received that message I'd also block them:

I'm paying the postage

No that was my next step!

Its not the fee putting someone off then. Maybe someone who has heard the rumours and expects a fee? All the same, ignore and block. I too think it means ‘person to person’, wanting to trade off eBay.
You say you’re a newbie - do you know how to add someone to your Blocked Buyers List (known here as bbl)?

It means pit to pit - armpit to armpit measurement 🙂

Aah of course. I hate that phrase.
I admit that I think most messages are a scam, or an attempt at setting up for one and try to keep them to an absolute minimum.
Still not a buyer I’d want, sending such a lazy and stupid message.

At least they said please!
