I'm a private seller and have been using Ebay for 20yrs at least. I've just had a dispute notice today from eBay regarding an item I sold back in 13th April! The buyer is saying they didn't get the item. It looks like they did raise the issue in September however the email went to my spam but that is still 5 months after!
It states 30days is the time to respond to an item not received unless done through PP and that goes up to 180days !! Obviously I don't have the postage details now and it would be far too late to get in touch with the PO.
What do you think?
I mean anyone could wait 175 days knowing full well you never kept any info on the item being delivered and ask for a refund.

Just my opinion - sometimes adults do have to agree to differ - but I genuinely can't see a situation where a person would start a fraudulent claim with their own payment institution/Paypal for under £30.
They also have no idea if you have tracking proving delivery - in which case this fraudulent claim would fail anyway.
I just can't see it.

This is possibly the case but why should I refund £30 when they have not given me a reasonable chance to see what's happened to their parcel.
These were my items, they were worth £30 , I posted them with Royal Mail and then I'm expected to send the £30 back after nearly 6 months. I'd reluctantly refund 50% but eBay/PP will side with them as the buyers and make me refund the full amount.

Last year we - and 4 other sellers selling the same type of items - all got chargebacks en masse from the same buyer. We're a bit of a community and we tend to talk to each other.
She even admitted that she had the items, saying first that her daughter had used her credit card to buy without her consent, but she backtracked on that after I pointed out that she had left the feedback and had had a few chats with me - all tracked items were fine, but all the untracked items had the monies refunded to her, the buyer.
Nothing eBay could do about the chargebacks, but they did stop her buying again.
I think the majority of the items were between £5 and £10 - it was only multiple purchases that were sent tracked. And the buyer knows where there is tracking to prove delivery because the tracking is on the envelope - didn't stop this woman from doing heaps of chargebacks. Especially as I am fairly certain that our wee group weren't the only ones involved!
There's nowt so funny as folk!!

I can understand everything you are saying about the unfairness of the situation but unfortunately that is the system. It is not just Ebay it is every sales channel. You have 2 choices here, both are unpalatable, but you can choose to lose £30 or to lose £46.80. Personally I would lose the £30.
Most sellers have taken losses where they think the buyer is either trying it on or just plain fraudulent. It unfortunately is what happens when you sell on any on line threads about claims of Item not received etc. Its just like all the shoplifting that goes on. Its unfortunately the world we live in nowadays.

I think we'll see more cases like this as the cost of living is starting to really hurt people financially. To be brutally honest I don't think these people did receive the item from Royal Mail , for whatever reason it got lost in the post but tell me a few days after it should have been delivered not 5 months later , that's the issue here.

I agree, though I don't think its necessarily those who are hurt financially who choose to hurt others. Could well have been lost, or the delivery might has been forgotten about.
My post was in response to @jckl1957 to demonstrate that people indeed claw back small amounts - oftentimes for good reason, and very very occasionally because they are common thieves.

Well i do, i pay attention to the T & Cs to make sure that know what info i may need in the future. Not just with e bay (or the other sites) but in all my buying/selling/service transactions. (can also be handy for insurance purposes as well!)
