It appears offers don’t work since 4th February!

There appears to be a problem with offers since 4th February!

I got a message from a buyer who asked if I would take an offer for a record that I was selling. We came to an agreement of £35. I then went into my listing and added offers and the lowest offer to be accepted as £35, and then the buyer put the offer in. The buyer then messaged me to say that it had been rejected, which is very odd, as I have done it this way many times which has always worked before.

so I thought that this must be something to do with the new ‘buyer protection’ thing, and I asked the buyer if he had actually put in £35, which he said he had.

I then looked into the offers declined in my listing and it was saying he had put an offer of £33.96 in. I thought that this is definitely to do with the new ‘buyer protection’ thing, so I changed the lowest offer to £33.96.

I asked him to try to put the offer in again, which he said he did, but it still declined his offer!

So what is going on here? It just won’t accept the offer!

From what I understand you've had a lucky escape as the new 'buyer protection fee tax' comes out of your 'offer' price when an offer is accepted. So you end up paying it, not the buyer. Better to reduce the item to the price the buyer wants and that way they pay the fees on top of their new price - so there is still a reason for them to get annoyed unless you explain - which i wouldn't as they'll probably start quibbling. It's a mess!

Oh right, I didn’t know that, perhaps that’s why I have been getting less money than I thought I should be getting. Where it says that I will have say £15 in my funds on a certain date, only to find that I have a fraction of that!!

You’re right about it being a mess!

Yes its a mess.

Simple delivery (an effort to increase 'their' income further) will cause even more grief.

Not being allowed to choose your delivery option (regardless of todays changes) - because obey can over ride your choice if it's seen as being a financially better option (to who??). The worst bit being - for anyone who collects stamps here, they want stamps on the packet - common sense, but no, ebay will provide the label - which they don't want! Stamp collectors have so many worthless mint stamps that they want to use stamps - but obey won't let them! Nonsense on a grand scale. I'm seeing stamp sellers leave in droves as the listings are plummeting leaving only business sellers - who think they've now got a monopoly - don't think so as they are now cheaper elsewhere on delcamp and eb id - with no buyers taxes and less fees for sellers so they can undercut big time!

Re: It appears offers don’t work since 4th February!

If a buyer sends an offer to a private seller and they accept, ebay will deduct the buyer protection fee from the offer and the seller gets the rest so effectively in this scenario the BPF is a seller fee.

Go back into the listing and change the Buy It Now price to the price you agreed to accept.

The BPF will still be added to the sellers price so the seller will need to list with the BPF deducted to arrive at the offer price.

Re: It appears offers don’t work since 4th February!

That is not accurate.

I sold a brooch today.

Price £15.

Buyer made an offer.

I countered with an offer of £12.

When I did so, the message shown to me was that the price shown to the buyer, including BPF is £13.20.

Payment to me will be £12.

Yes, if a private seller sends an offer/counter offer ebay add on the BPF and the seller gets the original offer.

If a buyer sends an offer to a private seller and they accept ebay deduct the BPF and the seller gets the rest.

It is all a bit new and confusing at the moment!

It certainly is, I've got three spreadsheets on the go at the moment trying to stay on top of things!  Didn't need any of them before the changes came in and that's before Simple Delivery becomes mandatory!

Re: It appears offers don’t work since 4th February!

If you update your price on the listing to £32.96 the buyer will see £35 but you will only get £32.96.

If you want £35 you will have to change the buy it now to £37.12, ebay will deduct £2.12 for fees and you will get £35.

Well, whatever, it didn’t work. I tried different ways, and it declined them straight away!?

Re: It appears offers don’t work since 4th February!

My previous post was to change the price on the listing, not offers.

I haven't used 'best offer' on my listings and definitely won't be now!
