I have my selling preferences set tightly and my activity log over the last 48 hours shows a buyer has made 72 attempts to place a bid all of which have been rejected because of too many non payment strikes.
Just what message do these people get? Additionally when I clicked on his profile on my (selling preferences) log it came up in red that this buyer was no longer a registered user. How then is he able to make these futile bids?

I have just had another check of mine and the latest were all dated 25th November, 22 attempts and the reason is too many unpaid bids. Buyer (or should i say attempted buyer joined in 2019 and it says they are now unregistered!! In total i have 9 pages of repeated failed bids all with multiple attempts. I think it definitely has to be some kind of glitch. Page 1 begins 4 october and ends so far on 25th November.

50+ bid attempts could be from a user using a sniping service or similar (website that automatically submits eBay bids). Or maybe they are editing their eBay account location, trying to bid again etc. to circumvent whatever setting prevents them from bidding. Then eventually they gave up or got blocked.
The error message for a failed bid is fairly generic, if a buyer has been blocked by the seller it is along the lines of "the seller's settings do not allow you to bid on this item", but not those exact words. So I suppose some users might think that is a website glitch and try a few more times (not 50+).

I think @messier44000 were you looking for the link above too?
Brilliant. Many thanks, add another virtual mince pie.
I wonder how I should have navigated there. Stripping out the last part, just using up to and including bmgt gave an error, and the page itself doesn't give any breadcrumb hints.
So I've had 3 buyers prevented from bidding in the last month or so. I would have expected them all to be inexperienced, but on the contrary they all have feedback in the hundreds. And the items were all pretty cheap. There's none so queer as folk.

On a PC, one way is:
Top left of any screen it says "Hello Fred" or whatever. Click that and click on account settings.
Find "Seller Preferences" and click on it.
Find "Manage who can buy from you" and click on the word "Edit" over on the right.
(While on this page it is worth looking to see what else is here),
Scroll down and click on "Manage block settings and rules activity log".
Easy!😀

Brilliant. Thanks. Reminds me of the fun exploring the Colossal Cave adventure, all those years ago! I think I just vanished in a puff of orange smoke.

Thanks for the tag @tressygirl
Hi @dancewithadingo ,
Thanks for reaching out. This is indeed quite an amount of bid attempts, one of the highest I have seen. It would be unusual for a person to do this amount given that they would have got the message of too many unpaid item cases. That said some users do ignore blocks, try and circumvent them or think that by making loads of attempts it will take away the block. It’s likely here that a 3rd party system was used to try and place them given the huge number of attempts. As they are now unregistered the account was reviewed for this behaviour.
Thank you,
Kat
