How come I get asked to select a postage policy when simple delivery will take over from anything I specify?
What is a postage policy anyway? I am an individual not a business.
I listed an item, eBay suggested shoebox up to 2kg. But I still had to select a postage policy, so I took RM 2nd class from the dropdown list. Now I can see on the listing that eBay are suggesting a postage price of £2.82. Isn't that a bit low for a 2kg item?
Also when I use eBay's Help it waffles on about Packlink, but I thought that I am obliged to use simple delivery as I am an individual? Is Packlink still a thing?
I am now resigned to the fact that I will need to use simple delivery, and I can't even get that to work.

Set up postage polices under Business policies on seller hub. I don't know why you haven't had to have one before, or why it's asking you now. I always use them to set up postage rates, so that when the price goes up you just change the price in the policy and it changes all your listings, but as you say SD has somewhat taken over. You also set dispatch times etc under Business policies.

Huh?? Do private sellers (like the OP) also have to set up 'postage policies'?

I had an issue recently I think it was because I was/had used templates,
If you were try starting again without a template,
My understanding is Simple Delivery will over ride the policy so make sure you get that bit right on your listing (size/weight) but if you can create the listing without a policy it will be less confusing
Please post how you get on and what worked for you in the end, will help others and me
Cheers

@lucy_farmer Are you referring to the title of "Business"? Yes thats correct.
I dont know what is forced on people, but postage policies have always been very useful and i set them up voluntarily. I dont actually know how you you set up despatch days without them.
