Inviataion only, free listings until 15th April!

I have this on my other account which is a private account. Quite a big thing they are doing here but probably because they are losing out big time to the likes of Vinted where there are no fees for selling clothes etc.

I haven't got this but then I got a 70% off last week and as I seem to get offers every other week I might get something next week.

What I'd be interested to know is is this for a very limited amount of listings? Like I seem to remember getting something like this ages ago but it was only for three listings. I can't imagine EBay could really afford to let unlimited listings (within your usual monthly limits) up to 15th April. If it is I expect it would be a very limited amount of sellers getting the offer.

A smack of desperation to try to keep people here?

If the "private sellers" receive this promo, they'll go overboard - that'll make HMRC's job easier to identify the sore thumbs which stick out?

Wonder when they'll do something similar for their real business sellers?

Is it for a maximum of 100 listings like a normal promotion or is it uncapped?

I asked a couple of people I know who get 80% off fees every fortnight and they haven't received this offer.

In reply to your first two points.

It probably is.

And it probably will.

From what I've read on the "Ebay reporting sales to HMRC" threads, isn't this offer similar to how private sellers are treated in Germany?   --   No fees, but with a strictly limited number of listings per annum?

Perhaps this is the first instalment of the way ebay.uk is heading?  Private sellers paying no basic fees but limited to 30 listings each year?  Perhaps ebay.uk is nearer to imploding than even I thought and is being positioned for merging with .de?

I've been getting the regular 80% off FVF offers for ages, but I haven't received this email (yet?) and haven't looked at my Hub since last Sunday so don't know if it's on there.  I wonder if it's also been sent to the thousands of private sellers who haven't listed anything for the last few months or years to try to tempt them back to selling here?

Will it do the trick and get some real live private buyers back to buy some of the piles of often over-priced items on ebay advertised by business sellers.  Over-priced, all too often, because they're hell-bent on Promoting themselves and their competitors into bankruptcy?

I have my doubts.  Too many will have given-up on ebay because they sold so little as they didn't pay ebay 25% for the privilege.

That goes double for those that, if they managed to sell something, found their cash on Hold (without warning) because they hadn't sold anything for a few months.

I think many, by now, will have found that selling on other sites is much more pleasant, far less hassle and far cheaper to ever think of putting themselves through the ebay mill again.

Not everyone is, or wants to be a business and doesn't only look at ebay in terms of their 'bottom line' and how much cash it generates for them.  Many will have re-discovered that there is still enjoyment to be found in selling on-line elsewhere and will be reluctant to return to the drudgery of ebay. (IMO)

I think it's more of a sweetener as they slide in the information about the new tax reporting to HMRC..

With this offer, if after a 30 days BIN listing expires and is then automatically relisted, does this promotion stay applied to the item or would I need to create a new listing altogether anyone?

Inviataion only, free listings until 15th April!

It looks like it is uncapped. I have copied the full T&Cs below. I get the 80% off every fortnight and woke up to this offer this morning and it is showing on my hub.

Specific information about this Promotion

What's it all about?

  • Get 100% off fixed order level fee of 30p and variable percentage final value fees ("FVF") per listing in final value fees if the item sells and pay no insertion fee.
  • Other fees, including any International fees, still apply.
  • Listings must start during the promotional period.
  • Listings can be auction-style or fixed price format.
  • The promotion start and end dates are included in the email we send to invited sellers.
  • Eligible listings must sell during the promotion period or within the first listing period post promotion end date.

Sounds good, where do I find the promotion and how do I sign up?

You can take part in the promotion on eBay.co.uk. Eligible sellers will receive an email with the RSVP link to the offer. You must opt in to the promotion by clicking on this link to start the benefit.

Anything else I need to know?

eBay charge an FVF when your item(s) sell(s). The FVF charged per order consists of: (i) a variable portion (“Variable Portion FVF”) which is calculated as a percentage of the Total Sale Amount; and (ii) a fixed portion (“Fixed Portion FVF”) for example 30p. The Total Sale Amount means the amount the buyer pays for an order, including the item price, postage, taxes and any other applicable fees.

The FVF Discount in this promotion applies to both the Fixed Portion FVF and Variable Portion FVF (net of any other discounts) in respect of the eligible items’ Total Sale Amounts. For example, if you would have been charged 12.80% on the Total Sales Amount, the 100% FVF discount will reduce this to 0%. The Fixed Portion FVF (e.g. 30p) will be discounted to 0.

You won't pay an insertion fee for eligible listings. Listing upgrade fees will still apply and will be charged according to the eBay fees policy.

You may also be subject to International fees.

Who can take part?

  • This Promotion is open to all registered private sellers who (a) have been invited to take part, (b) are registered to managed payments, and (c) have actively opted in (“Eligible Sellers”). If you have not registered for managed payments you will be prompted to update your details after you opt-in to the Promotion.
  • Participation is linked to the seller's account and is not transferable.
  • Eligible Sellers’ accounts must meet eBay minimum seller performance standards.
  • Please sign in to My eBay and view your seller standards dashboard to verify whether your account is currently meeting the standards. The seller standards dashboard is available to all sellers here.
  •  If you registered after 15 March 2011 or haven't listed any items for a while, you may have a listing allowance of 10 items per month or of £650 per month, whichever is reached first. You may be able to increase this allowance by providing additional verification.
  •  An eligible item previously scheduled to go live during the Promotional Period will qualify for the Promotion only if you have opted in to the Promotion before the listing starts.
  • If an item that is eligible for the Promotion had previously closed without a successful sale and is re-listed during the Promotional Period, it will be eligible for the Promotion.
  • You will not receive a refund of your original insertion fee if the item sells.
  • Listings not sold successfully during the Promotional Period are eligible within their first listing period
  • If an item qualifies for the Promotion and when the item sells, the invoice will indicate the fee including the discount. Please note: if the item does not sell the first time and if it is automatically relisted during the Promotional Period, it will still be eligible for the Promotion discount. If the item does not sell the first time and you relist it after the Promotional Period, standard final value fees will be charged according to the eBay fees policy when the relisted item sells.
  • Items that are automatically relisted through the Automatic relist function or the Good 'Till Cancelled function will be eligible for discount.
  • For items listed in 2 or more categories, only the insertion fee for the first category is included. Standard insertion fees will be charged for listing the same item for each additional category, according to the eBay fees policy.
  • Single and multi-quantity listings are eligible.

Restrictions & exclusions

The following are excluded from the promotion:

  • Business sellers
  • Sellers who have been invited to participate, but have not actively opted in to the promotion via the RSVP link shown in the marketing communication.
  • Invited Sellers who have not registered for managed payments after opt-in and before listing their first item.
  • All items listed in the Cars, Motorcycles & Vehicles and Property categories. However, items listed in the Vehicle Parts & Accessories category are included.
  • Items listed in the Classified Ad format. Auction-style listings ended early. Identical listings that don't comply with our duplicate listings policy.
  •  Any item listed that doesn't comply with eBay listing policies or prohibited and restricted items policies.
  • Any item listed during the promotional period but scheduled to start after the promotional period.
  •  Listings that are listed during the promotional period but do not sell and are relisted outside of the promotional period.
  • Listing upgrade fees apply and will be charged according to the eBay fees policy. PayPal and any other third-party fees still apply.
  • Final value fees apply for Second Chance Offers.
  • You may be subject to International fees.

It appears to be an open book for businesses masquerading as private sellers however it seems on the limits of liability eBay are reinforcing their "seller is responsible" clause in their general terms and conditions concerning this promotion with their 'limit of liability' clause:

"eBay shall not be liable, in contract or tort (including negligence) or the breach of statutory duty or in any other way, for the loss or damage howsoever arising suffered by the entrant resulting directly or indirectly from entry to this promotion." (my bold)

Any "private" seller who is subsequently hammered by HMRC as a result of taking advantage of the unlimited lisitngs advantage of this offer is on their own.

I have the offer but when listed an item it did not show as "1 used" as it normally does on other offers.

So how do I know the item if sells will have no fee?

Usually gives number used/left but just says "available"??.

If unlimited will not say number left but should say number used??.

….. private sellers are treated in Germany?.....

Perhaps - a long shot but you never know.

There’s no apparent limit to the listings under this promo except presumably each person’s personal Monthly Limit.

I just don’t see it being sent to the thousands of private sellers who haven't listed anything for the last few months or years to try to tempt them back to selling here - it’s something else - for reasons never to be known.

The trouble with promos such as this can be the really significant extra quantity of items listed - some overpriced and the condition of some items leaving a lot to be desired.

This puts (more) buyers off.

If you couldn’t find anything using search before, heaven help us once this promo takes hold.

And I don’t really believe that many real private sellers promote listings - except, perhaps, inadvertently without realising it.

Perhaps it’s one of eBay’s commercial “cunning plans” - and we all know how they usually turn out.

Do you sell anything on your other account to make use of it?

It's hardly surprising that more and more business sellers are moving their listings onto private accounts when the monetary advantages are so great.

Sounds great! no such luck here though 😞

Given it is a very good offer - far better than the regular 70/80% off FVF offer - it is possibly quite limited.

its not limited,  alot of people bragging about it on facebook groups and reselling discords etc.

When are they going to throw a bone and support business sellers? How are people supposed to compete when they are effectively undercut 8-10%?   People don't care about technicalities over Consumer right protections etc.  They just want the lowest price. Once something goes wrong, they will complain about consumer rights, which is when they will find out why they should buy business.

How does eBay make money if they offer promotions like this? I only list now when there is 70% off FVF but at least eBay still takes a cut. I'm not complaining just curious from a business point of view.

A kick in the teeth for genuine sole traders, " private sellers" will be delighted. Ebay must be really worried about loosing   "private seller" accounts with  10k feedback & 20k item sold.
