InPost now added by default

Ebay have now added InPost for sellers. What really grinds my gears is why dont they let us know so we can add it? No they tell us and add it automatically so we have to realise and remove it if wishing to use Royal Mail. Discovered DHL is also added plus if listing GPS is added auto so you have to realise and remove if unwanted. Do we arrive at a supermarket check out with items in our basket we dont want?

It's an interesting bedtime story although a bit back to front as it has a gripping start but finishes a bit flat. A bit Dungeons and Dragons but the other way round.

The point is, we SHOULDN'T be automatically opted in.  It's a nuisance searching through eBay to find where to change most of their settings.  I'm getting tired of their unrealistic delivery predictions, and all these things being forced on us.   It really is getting close to time up now.

I had to drive a few miles to post something through inpost, so it is a complete pain for some of us seller who didn't want to be automatically opted in.

I've just discovered this myself, the hard way. I'm a private seller and I sold something this morning. When I went to print out the royal mail postage label (which is the only delivery service I had invoked when eBay forced the Simple Delivery on us) I saw my buyer had elected for something called InPost. There is only one InPost dropoff point in my area, which is currently not accepting any parcels. The next Inpost points are a 2 hour round trip away!

 

I am appalled to see that a range of delivery options have been added to my account without my knowledge. I rely on being able to book a collection through Royal Mail, because I work full time and I live in a rural area. I have now rectified this in my account, but I'm going to have to contact my buyer to see if they are happy or able to change their delivery service (which they have already clearly paid for). I think I'm going to lose this sale and potentially get bad feedback.

 

I'm not surprised so many sellers are leaving eBay, imposing options without our knowledge is completely unacceptable.

I don't recall receiving the email. I suspect many sellers might have misunderstood it and assumed the services had been added, and the seller could turn them on if they wished. 

 

It doesn't change the fact that eBay added those options to seller accounts with them automatically turned on. It's one thing to add them as an option, but forcing a seller to go into their account to switch them OFF, during a likely busy and stressful working week, is not acceptable to me and is a sly way of imposing new policies. Things like this should be a choice, not an imposition we have to remember to remove. 

 

Unfortunately as a seller I cannot access the option today's buyer chose - InPost, so this will likely result in a lost sale.

Yes - even though I did get the 'Updates to your shipping option' in eBay Messages, the bit about InPost 'enabled already' & 'if you'd like to opt out'  were in the last paragraph, after all the blurb & details about InPost.

 

I suspect quite a few people would have either not noticed the message, or just skimmed the first bit, thought 'not interested' - and missed the important part about already being opted in. 

 

Surely it would have been better to allow people to opt in of their own free will, rather than potentially cause all sorts of problems for those who only discovered InPost had been added when an item sold?!

In case you are not already aware, Inpost parcels can also be dropped off at any Yodel parcel shop if that's any use to you.

I wasn't aware, but having just checked unfortunately the nearest Yodel drop off is a 15 mile round trip so not something I could consider.

Exactly that, it does indeed cause problems. eBay advised me to cancel the order, buyer automatically gets a refund, the item relists, the buyer can re-purchase. Except the experience put the buyer off and they did not repurchase. That's a sale lost thanks to eBay's wisdom. And I might get negative feedback.
