I'm Back. But not for long

Left 10 months ago. Rejoined to hopefully sell a couple of auction items. Blimey, the process is so complex you need a degree in advance maths to work it out.  Designed to get rid of private sellers of course. Trouble is eBay is tanking in the UK which is not surprising. I'll give it a week.

Yes. Been back for 3 days after 10 months and it's worse than before. It's like some woke left wing organisation. I'll be gone again by the end of the week. There is far better options out there now.

'It's like some woke left wing organisation.'

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

How? In what way? 🤔

I thought it was just a once-useful site, that has been jammed into an extreme profit-seeking, one-size-fits-all box.  (extreme profit-seeking is not usually aligned with the  'woke left wing' ...)

Could you please explain what a woke left wing organisation is and how that is eBay, also if you could tell me what woke means thanks.

Re: I'm Back. But not for long

I think the opposite, used to sell loads but got fed up of the time taken to list items, have to go to post offices to get proof of postage etc.

now I can list things in less than a minute with the app, and the simple delivery with QR codes and lockers makes posting it so much easier not having to go to a post office ( I drop loads off at midnight at the locker near me )

what are you finding complex?  if I'm listing something I search recently sold items for the same thing, select "sell one like this", take a photo , put a price on and list it , only takes a fraction of the time it used to.

Re: I'm Back. But not for long

@doug86-3124

Just a few prefer it now, some refuse to sell now,  most wish it hadn't changed, but do the best they can with it. EBay isn't tanking, it is holding it's own in the face of more straightforward, younger people, smartphone friendly, platforms, which are different, but definitely no better, no cheaper and with the same ridiculous postage system.

Your are right that they don't know what they are doing. Copying the opposition is stupid, letting go of your points of difference is stupid. Alienating your long term buyers and sellers is stupid.  It seems that the changes were all about making eBay grow and thrive, but they are not winning that battle. A little bit of wokeness might do them some good if it means listening and understanding.

ahh yes, that whole left wing woke "rampant capitalism destroying all good will to worship at the altar of profit" thing that we're all so familiar with 😉

PLEASE NOTE: This is exaggerated sarcasm for comic effect. Don't @ me.

Well most wokery is fine by champagne socialists. E-bay just censored one of my comments for mentioning a competitor!  Not like the Government closing down free speech in my view.

Woke? Re: the Labour Party, champagne socialists , the Greens and anyone who sensors my comment on here because I dared to mentioned a competitor, not promote, just mention.

Re: I'm Back. But not for long

It's a system designed to get rid of private sellers who sell low price items under £5. It isn't worth doing, when you factor in the ridiculous buyer protection fee, and how it takes up to 14 days to get paid in many cases. Why is how you post your items got anything to do with e-Bay?

The BPF is a total rip off. You don't need it, they already have a money back guarantee and counties in most cases will compensate for breakfast or non delivery. The prices you see are different if your either a buyer or seller. When you bid you don't really know what you're bud is! It's a joke and I'm out of here, for the second time in a year.

The BPF is certainly a rip off if you believe the BPF is anything to do with getting money back for damaged or missing parcels. Or breakfast.

Re: I'm Back. But not for long

Its definition seems to widely vary depending on what they wish to complain about. From a personal example, there's a man who walks his Belgian Malinois off lead. It jumps on people and swings from tree branches; it has jumped my garden fence and tried to maul my cats. I told him to put his dog on a lead if he can't control it, only to be called a "Woke B@$t@£d". He then proceeded to loudly shriek "Woke B@$t@£d5" as he travelled through the housing estates.

So, in my instance, woke, is being perfectly reasonable and displaying common sense. Trying to help a misguided person avoid future heartbreak and jail term, when his dog commits an avoidable act there's no coming back from.

The "woke" dictionary definition must be as thick as the Yellow Pages by now, and I'm near certain definitions will be the mirror opposite if you were to buy a Trump Dictionary. Signed personally by some backroom aide (in beautiful Washington DC fresh air if their office has been demolished.) Yours for the amazing price of only $500, probably 😆

The Buyer Protection Fee is just a partial replacement for the old seller fees and nothing to do with eBay's Money Back Guarantee.  Yes, there is the psychological aspect of the BPF which might put some people off but it is significantly less than the old seller fees (up to 7% plus 10p per item versus 13.22% plus 30p per transaction) so I really don't see how you can claim that it is a rip off.

The 14 day wait for payment only applies until you meet the eligibility criteria for faster payments (10 or more sales with a total value of £150 or more within the last 5 years, no more than 2 currently open requests/cases, and no more than 2 transaction defects within the last 12 months).  Once you meet the criteria you will receive payment within 24 hours of the buyer paying.

When a buyer places a bid on an auction the bid is inclusive of the BPF so the amount they bid is the amount they pay.

Re: I'm Back. But not for long

Oh an Advisor, I better be careful.

In the old system about every two weeks or so there was a 2-4 day window where you could list for 3%.  I repeat again with a money back guarantee and a courier compensation for tracked items it adds nothing except an unjustified extra charge. You need to check your figures which are well off the mark. Look at all the "eligibility criteria" no wonder small small private sellers are leaving in droves. This community blog proves it. Read the posts. With an auction this rip off BPF goes up every time you bid. Why? Is it more of a risk?  It doesn't pay however you present it, make logical sense or add anything positive for anybody, apart from e-Bay. They do well to remember the till the small seller had in setting them up in 1995.

I was a top rated private seller for 5 years until I got banned about 6 times on here for posting criticisms of this once great platform. Sounds like the Government.

it’s a percentage

and to add, it’s how eBay makes money off the sale. The justification for the fee is that without it, eBay makes no money off the sale.

'Not like the Government closing down free speech in my view.'

The govt and ebay are poles apart Doug!

the UK has currently got a Labour govt, yes.

But Ebay is a deeply capitalistic (i.e. right-wing) American company. They'll just be doing the bare minimum of adhering to various regulations in order to be legal in this country. And most of these regulations about online business have been put in place over the last 2 decades by overwhelmingly Conservative (i.e. right wing) govts.

I just don't get why so many people think that everything that is wrong with their world, can be laid at the feet of 'wokery'.

Re: I'm Back. But not for long

Just about everything is run like some woke left-wing organisation nowadays.

Which is why this post will be removed within the next day or so.

Some of these companies get everything they deserve - they put what they think are the right people in the top jobs (we all know why)..but they haven't got a clue what they're doing when they start doing those jobs, hence everything goes to s**t.

Just like this site.
