I have a selling account, had it for 20 years, ..eBay now want Photo ID?

Had an selling account for 20 years (this isnt it) I'm a UK seller,  haven't sold a great deal, feedback is still under 1000,  last year after about a year of not using the account I started to sell again, not a lot but eBay first treated me like I hadn't been a member for 20 years and insisted on holding some of the sales (low value s/h items) until I confirmed my bank account (which i'd done a couple of years prior). they wanted to send me a certain amount and I was to confirm etc, they also restricted the value of the items I could sell so I had to ask them via live chat to up the limits or a car I was selling would not list etc, in the end after a few sales things seemed to correct themselves and I was paid straight away for items>

Roll on to may 2024, I've sold a few items over the months, in the last 2 weeks i've sold an item at £225 and one at £125, both collection only, both items have had no problems and i have a couple more items listed. Not electrical goods or high value items etc.  just normal stuff, some new and unused, most second hand and used etc

So today I logged on, I get a pop up stating they wanted me to ID myself, this would be in the form of a driving licence, passport or govt ID...and oh by the way any transactions are held until I comply?   

I don't sell high value / high risk items, I have 100% feedback,  I've had zero returns , my bank account is verified, they have my email address (verified with them some time ago, they send me emails re items listed or sold, email has notnot changed) they send me texts to my phone re delivery notices if i've bought something to collect, my physical address has not changed in all the time i've had the selling account.

and now they want the ID from me, no warning, no time schedule to complete but simply comply and until I do any funds are to be held over.

Furthermore, they want the ID but don't actually tell me where it will be stored, who will have access to it and such like all of which seems very wrong.

Anyone else had this?

Well by law they are required to tell you this is happening and give you the option to opt out.  Which I did under section 12 whilst talking to AI ebay customer service. When I asked the assistant where they had told me, thry refused to answer. Thry also did not answer where they'll were from or what they could see or access of my Dara from where they were.   You accept that as ok?   Good luck with your future.

They should not be able to hold funds that were already sold.  Utter rubbish that it's costing Ebay. They  hold your money and don't release it until you give they them data they can sell on and misuse. So making interest on our money and selling our Data.

NOT DOING IT - LOST  50 pounds but won't buy or use ebay ever again . I only sold a few items over the years not even 500 pounds over the years. BIG brother and lace of privacy.

i currently have a case open with the F.O.C and am in talks with a solicitor in taking further group action against Ebay on sellers that sold less than 1k in goods in a financial year, or who were not given as full reason  for their account being suspended other than the excuse they used with me, that they were protecting me!   which is utter nonsense.   also anyone who sold items on ebay and paid for postage through paypal and ebay have not refunded you out of withheld funds.   this is not something they can legally do.   

although ebay are using an international agreement on money laundering. They are clearly using an AI tool without human integrity.    i notice you have a 28 score, so hardly a big selller!   this is ridiculous!  anyone who wants to protest outside their Richmond building, i am not letting this drop till those at the top listen very carefully to its customer base.

yes me too. i have sold a few hundred quid in last 2 months. they are now acting like the stazi. after uk tax changes called side hustle tax. they have all my details like you. they now have my NI number, and now they want photo ID, i dont like the sound of it. too much info over the airways. I am registered for self employment anyway, and put it all thro my accountant. my beef is being treated like a tax dodger. i,m 63 with serious illnesses, that have stopped me working in construction, on express demand by consultants. I have no income, i am not entitled to any benefits. and am living on meagre savings until i die of pverty, ive never been out of work since 1977, the nhs havent fixed me after 18 months, ive lost my livelyhood and my dignity, but thought i would try and turn a hobby into a small income, but with auction fees when buying at auction, then ebay fees, and now tax etc etc, ive lost money, this is what you get for trying. in answer to you, i,m right with you

They are using legislation/policies  on many things which are not " real"  or may never happen or haven't happened,  for gov/corp embodiment to control and  " excuse" the eroding of  your natural human rights under the TRUE LAW, which is that of the traditional customs of the land and the constitutional values written and unwritten including the Coronation Oath , Bill of Rights 1688, Act of Settlement 1701 , Separation of Powers, Magna Carta 1215/1297 and more, still in force, antiquated or  not, cannot be repealed and no legislation, person, a corporation or institution not even the monarch can remove.    Those who were taught the English constitution ( elders like me) before it was removed from the curriculum ( so that people going forwards are "dumbed" down ) know this , have lived by it and if it is not used or made a stand for or taught we will lose it forever and our children, and children's children will become a slave to the " powers" who think they  own everything.  Remember no-one has authority over you. You have autonomy and can only choose for yourself, learn for yourself , protect yourself, and educate yourself. Read the Human Rights Act 1998 and the Data Protection Act 2018, but more importantly  read and learn the constitutional laws which make the fabric of  our foundational laws,  and of which Americas constitution was devised from, which they codified. Policies/Legislation have been   introduced to get around our foundational laws  - you either accept or not, however if we look deeper, it could be shown that certain " policies"  and/or " agreements" are ultra vires .  A.I. is artificial, not real and is a programme to be programmed and we are  feeding it!  It is becoming more apparent that this needs to rejected, that life is not online on a screen and that your identity goes farther than a piece of paper. Our identity  is not a  number written on a piece of paper or online- neither is a photograph, as an example a screenshot is not the internet, and this reference is only made for people to try and think and realise the difference. The more you give away of yourself, i.e. your private and personal information, the more you are leaving yourself wide open to the very things "they" say they want your " data" in order to protect  you? ie. identity theft, loss of freedom, including financial , and autonomy, choice and more. It is not a crime to live although it may appear to be with all of the " red tape" and " hoops" to jump through; remember, you have the right to choose, to have opinions and to disagree or agree.   Your rights to protect your values, privacy, family etc include your  personal data , as is the right to challenge those who are using coercive measures for you to "reveal" them with the introduction of new  "policies" or for some new " legislation" which is beyond authority or powers ( ultra vires)  and against the very fabric of  our  inherent laws and rights as a human being living in this world.
