How long ebay will hold back funds for not giving NI number on Blackmail.

Used to sell on ebay but no more as refuse to give ebay my details.

ebay is not my employer but just a selling platform, HMRC are not my employer but deal with my yearly earnings where i pay no tax what so ever after calculating my way.

so now i cut off my nose as i dont sell on fleabay anymore unless collected and cash.

Not always sold on fleabay and feedback is mostly purchases but 24 years down the drain as i fear i no longer want to be a part of ebay, i even set up another account to purchase.

So, i am putting to test small funds to see how long they hold this for, they have £12 and on hold, as far as i am concerned they can stick it where the sun dont shine as i have no issues in loosing this but just curious on how long they will actually hold, steal my money. Its Blackmail from ebay.

i have not looked to any contract but guess they have dropped it in there somewhere.

So even when you look after your yearly tax return and never paid tax as never earn enough, these clowns still ask for NI no..Blackmail..

Hopefully some big concern, collective will fight them in court over this, but we have no chance.

i now purchase a lot more from amazon ..

Re: How long ebay will hold back funds for not giving NI number on Blackmail.

I seem to remember a maximum time of 170 days ?

However,  I wasn't sure of any time limit, if you don't provide a NI number, so I  googled it , and found this ....

eBay can hold your selling funds for an unspecified period if you don't provide your National Insurance (NI) number, potentially impacting future payouts. While there's no exact timeline, eBay UK Community suggests that eBay UK will likely send reminders and eventually stop payouts. New or infrequent sellers may also experience holds for up to 30 days, but it can sometimes be longer. Furthermore, eBay UK Community will still provide your details to HMRC, even without your NI number, and may flag you as non-compliant.

Re: How long ebay will hold back funds for not giving NI number on Blackmail.

You haven't said if eBay has asked for your NINO.

You haven't said if you intend to close the account or not.

Do eBay know you're "taking a stand"?

If none of the above has happened, your funds will be available in the usual timescale, Why would they not?

If any of the above have happened, I would imagine they will hold the funds for six months to ensure there can be no chargebacks. That is pretty standard when closing accounts, where there has been some sort of dispute.

You can also expect your buying account to be closed, if it's easily connected to this one (same operator, address, bank, etc). eBay are pretty sharp about that and won't want any users who they can't trust.

How'd you manage to sell 77 items without telling them your number?

I can understand OP's frustration as someone who values privacy above all else.

Unfortunately what you've failed to realise is we don't live in that world anymore!

HMRC, the government can just look in your bank account and take as they see fit.

eBay isn't blackmailing you, they're complying with the government.

I also wish to take no part in the dystopian present, as for someone else coming along and fighting for what's right... oh boy.

Re: How long ebay will hold back funds for not giving NI number on Blackmail.

eBay have requested NINO serveral times, even flags red over my summery, my eBay.

ebay are not interested in any individual stand as i had them call me back..

Now do i close a 24year account! thats annoying with excellent feedback although most is purchases.

buying account, different acc name, different bank so i guess eBay are not that smart.

> More so with money they have lost from sales where people have left, no longer sell.

Ebay have no right to give any information to HMRC on users as pretty sure thats against the law.

By the way can i keep your Driving Liscence details on my pc, i promise i will keep them safe.

So if if hmrc can view my info why are they asking for it.

i keep every invoice, sales, and material purchase and every ebay monthly statement, and no where near a tax bracket.

They have to provide the information to HMRC

For residents of the UK, eBay is legally required to report both your sales transactions and certain personal or business information to His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC). eBay will report this information should you meet either of the following thresholds within the calendar year:

  • Your total sales on eBay is equal to or more than £1,740 after deducting fees and commissions or taxes
  • You complete 30 or more sales transactions on eBay (cancelled transactions are not included in the calculation)

Your total sales for the year are calculated based on the full amount received for your sales transactions excluding:

  • Cost of shipping labels purchased on eBay
  • VAT collected and remitted by eBay
  • VAT charged on fees
  • Amounts deducted by eBay for fees, coupons, cancelled or deleted orders
  • Returns

Re: How long ebay will hold back funds for not giving NI number on Blackmail.

If you think ebay has frozen your funds why do you still have an expensive item for sale?

You cannot ask the buyer to pay cash, that is against ebay policy and is no longer a payment method available on a listing.  Your description wording does not override that policy.

I don't think eBay has ever had my NINO up until these new rules came into force, I think they have had my UTR number from the start.

Basically HMRC want to make sure sellers who should be declaring and paying tax are doing so.

If you don't want to provide it that is your choice but eBay won't allow you to sell for much longer unless you provide it, they cannot ignore HMRC rules.

I sell on a few sites and have been asked by all to provide information to keep on selling.

Re: How long ebay will hold back funds for not giving NI number on Blackmail.

I am leaving eBay for the same reason, with two sales outstanding, and have received notice that my funds are on hold. I will be claiming that as a loss, and blaming HMRC for the end of my business, as well as eBay, for making Simple Postage mandatory, except on small items worth less than £10.

I'm confused - I didn't realise simple delivery was mandatory for businesses?

But you have a personal ebay account, you can't claim a loss as you won't be paying taxes.

You state you have a business in which case you should have an e bay business account and Simple Delivery is only relevant for private sellers!
