Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

OK so listing some items tonight

good news first - even though Simple Delivery is now being pushed I can opt out to custom settings and select my standard shipping rates

bad news - I have to opt out of Simple Delivery every time I list even though I am listing similar items. Really?

This is from ebay itself:  You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.

I mean what does that last sentence mean anyway?

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Just catching up on the eBay scandal. Remember, folks;

eBay says the seller may be responsible for refunding the buyer the original shipping costs, even though that shipping amount is not paid to the seller.

Private sellers are also being forced into having a handling time of no more than 3 business days.

(It's a 12 mile round trip to the post office where I live. No Evri or any other courier. I'm partially sighted, partially disabled and the bus comes once an hour. Which is why I chose 5 days, so I only had to make the trip once a week.) Disability discrimination, right there. I used eBay as a way of boosting my small pension, but looks like it's back to the foodbank, for me.

eBay are onto a money spinner because they set the price for your delivery charge but if they negotiate a cheaper deal with the courier, as they will have done, they keep the difference.

They're obviously prepping for bad publicity as there is an 'article' on the Daily Mirror website today, which has obviously been written by eBay. Say what you like about The Sun, but at least they published a balanced, online article yesterday.

"But eBay users have slammed the change, describing it as “eBay’s most ridiculous move ever”.

"Sellers have said they will need to travel further to drop items at courier points, which will make the process more complicated."

"Meanwhile, experts have previously told The Sun that the change risks forcing vulnerable and sellers to pay more to post items to their buyer."

The more bad publicity, the better.

The royal mails new cost for a small parcel 48 will be £3.45 SO WHY IS EBAY CHARGING £4.27 already with Simple Delivery ?

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Some people can still opt out but many are already finding they can’t. And its been applied to their existing listings.

I’ve stopped selling, at least until this mess has settled down but I just tested doing a listing and (for me) the ‘advanced options’ link in postage is still there but it doesn’t work, it just flashes the pop up box (that used to give you the choice of custom postage) for a moment and then it bounces back to the listing form with SD applied.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

They closed my local post office in January which was a 10 mile round trip. I now have a choice of 3 other post offices how lucky am I, BUT 2 are approximately 14 mile round trip and the other approximately 14.5 mile round trip. At least I can count myself lucky that I could drive there but I am NOT going to more than once a week. As for people like yourself I think it is disgusting that they are doing this and making you feel so anxious and taking away something which I suspect you quite enjoyed doing at one time, I know I did, it used to be not a bad place to sell but now ……….

Either that or those stupid little boxes that they expect you to be able to put parcels in! Ridiculous!

“eBay says the seller may be responsible for refunding the buyer the original shipping costs, even though that shipping amount is not paid to the seller.

These are the main reasons I’ve stopped selling. I can’t use evri as I can’t get to a drop off point, can’t print a label unless I buy a printer that works with my ipad alone as I have no computer or smartphone (I’m not considering it but is it even possible?) and the postie won’t bring a label to an ebay pick up.

3 day handling is no good to me - I always had 5 day handling as although RM pickup is usually possible daily - some weeks no pickups are bookable and I can only use a QR code (on my ipad) once a week on a Friday. That’s the only day I can make the 30 minute each way journey to the village post office, and that’s not guaranteed.

The seller being made to refund outward shipping costs that were paid to ebay by the buyer is just…well its unacceptable.

Unacceptable is not the word I would like to use but I have to be polite apparently! They can take their SD and put it somewhere!

Now let me think which one of those statements I actually believe, erm, erm, oh yes, none of the. Except the one where you say the buyers need protecting from eBay, well so do the sellers mostly! Give yourself another laugh, they have sent an email around 2pm today extolling the virtues of SD, had the biggest laugh I have had in weeks!

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

It's not 3 days handling, regardless to what they are telling us.

The first BIN SD listings I saw on Sunday were all quoting 2-3 day delivery. In the listings themselves there were giving 2-3 April.

Keep in mind Standard is 48 Hour Tracked (that isn't guaranteed delivery time wise) or equivalent Evri.

So to get it there before eBay's EDD you'd need to send next day at the latest.

Later than that and it basically doesn't stand a chance.

& then you get not arrived claims.

It's a trap.

That is a complete joke! It definitely is a trap, not sure what is going on here but don’t trust any of it, no good will come of this for the (I hope)

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Yes seen it not sure whether to laugh or cry. The most ludicrous part is
that I truly believe they think that this load of old beep beep they are
feeding us is for our own good and we should be eternally grateful. Let’s
see how confident they feel when all the private sellers leave. There will
be no buyers then either as the business sellers will have no one to
compete with. So the good, genuine business sellers will lose out also
because they will be taken over by the ones who sell fakes/copies and
junk. When you have no buyers ebay who will you blame then? Of course it
will be the private sellers who deserted you like rats from a sinking ship
when you did everything you could to make things better for them - simple
discriminative delivery, pro longed payments, buyer protection (for what
and against what) fee, I could go on and on but hardly worth it as they
think they are GOD.

I’ve posted before about why SD has stopped me using ebay, so I won’t repeat them here.

I’ve been looking for alternatives. I sell my clothes from a former, very different life to the one I live now.

Vestiare collective (and possibly etsy for the vintage and handmade pieces) would be the only online platform that I think would be a good fit but I think for now I’d rather keep the items than pay about 50% fees in both cases and still have to faff about posting stuff and being open to returns and claims of all sorts plus having to play the new ‘games’ required by those sites.

When I’m ready I’ll send them to a local dress agency and be done with it for those sort of fees, with no work listing and no risk of not delivered/not as described/doesn’t fit claims afterwards!

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

Interesting.

Perhaps its not going as well as they thought.

Poshmark backtracked in a matter of weeks on BPF (I don’t know if they had SD as well) and Mercari folded because of similar policies not working.

It only works for V* (in my opinion)  because its a trendy app used by very young buyers who are used to control and censorship of all kinds - and the extremely low prices which are attractive enough to mean items are binned rather than returned if they’re not sent in acceptable condition. Awful.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

You’re quite right. I live in the Scottish Highlands and can not post in the morning on any day. Even click and drop is not collected from my house until 3pm at the earliest.

This week I posted an item at the post office using tracked 48 on Monday. I could not go before that day’s post left the office at 2pm so it got into the system on Tuesday and is scheduled to be delivered to the buyer (in London) on Friday. In other words, posted on the 1st, due to be delivered on the 5th. I could do no faster but its three days longer than the buyer was promised by ebay.

YET Another reason to delist everything. I’m not risking that a future buyer wouldn’t claim a ‘not arrived’ refund on their shiny new BPF and ding me for late delivery as well.

Re: Having to opt out of Simple Delivery on EVERY LISTING

I don’t live remotely, well not that much, I’m in the Scottish Borders, Evri are useless here, get them to collect from me? I have more chance of winning the lottery than anything going smoothly with that company. Stopped using the years ago as they are incompetent and rude, use RM, have done for ages, a few problems from time to time but sorted quickly and without the attitude
