Going to ship to the US & bypass the Global Shipping Programme - no tariffs applied by eBay?

Whilst there seems to be no certainty with regards to how eBay is applying tariff charges re the Global Shipping Programme, I think I'm going to resume sending to the US and use Royal Mail International Tracked instead.

The item I'll soon be listing is a music DVD which is exempt from tariffs, with only a 50p charge via Royal Mail Click & Drop. I'm well aware that this is a stupid question, but I presume eBay will not apply any tariffs as I'm not using GSP?

It's been a while since I've posted to the US without going through the GSP, but I presume that eBay would still collect the sales tax from the buyer?

Your plan sounds logical. eBay has a legal obligation to collect Sales Tax, so I can't see how they could stop now. And by currently having GSP to USA turned off, I think eBay has made it clear that they currently have no provision for collecting / remitting tariffs... otherwise they would be increasing their profits by doing it with GSP. Good luck and let us know how it goes, please.

Ebay still collects sales tax. As a business, I do not us GSP ever as I like full control of shipping choices. I sell to the US via RM online so I just fill everything in there and pay what needs to be paid (although I can add/deduct on invoices before payment is made)

I just spoke to CS who said GSP was not available to the USA - I had an offer today from a US customer for a SD item and I couldn't tell if GSP would take it.  They said they could make and I could accept the offer and it would be via GSP BUT they would not be able to pay because it's currently suspended.  I had to decline the offer.

I dispatched a parcel on the 12th and it is now at the hub being processed by PB.

GSP to USA.

Yes, I can confirm that it's all working as normal, sales tax collected but no tarriff. We've just increased our postage to the US to cover the 50p admin fee and ebay's fees on that 50p. On C&D website, everything is as before apart from the 50p and you can still select either tracked or untracked services.

Hi there,

Just wanted to jump in here to confirm that UK GSP support to the US is currently limited to items with country/region of manufacture (country of origin) information. You can see more on this here.

Thank you,

Marco

Any updates to how tariffs are being applied? I'd prefer to ship via the GSP hub.

Re: Going to ship to the US & bypass the Global Shipping Programme - no tariffs applied by eBay?

Several questions on sending to USA with GSP:

Do I need to put the packed dimensions and weight of the item in the listing?

Are fees paid on the final price ie final price of item  + postage within UK + International Shipping costs + Customs fees + Tarriff Fees ?

If so the fees will be so large it's not worth selling to US.

Who pays the tarriff and how is it paid ?

Is delivery being delayed due to US Customs checks?

Can I just use GSP for USA and still use the Royal Mail for other international destinations?

Any help at all would be really appreciated.

Unfortunately it doesn't answer any of my questions. I've already read all the info I can find on GSP. If the info I require was there I wouldn't have raised them on this thread.

Re: Going to ship to the US & bypass the Global Shipping Programme - no tariffs applied by eBay?

A few answers for you:

Do I need to put the packed dimensions and weight of the item in the listing? - No

Are fees paid on the final price ie final price of item  + postage within UK + International Shipping costs + Customs fees + Tarriff Fees ? - Yes ( edit - not tariff fees).

If so the fees will be so large it's not worth selling to US. - My last parcel to US worked out around 18% fees, inc VAT

Who pays the tarriff and how is it paid ? - Buyer pays when it arrives in US.

Is delivery being delayed due to US Customs checks? - Customs can take up to 10 days. It's too soon to say if the new tariffs will affect this.

Can I just use GSP for USA and still use the Royal Mail for other international destinations? - I believe you can. have a look in your postage policies to see if you can exclude countries or if GSP overrides this. Someone else may know the answer to this one.

Re: Going to ship to the US & bypass the Global Shipping Programme - no tariffs applied by eBay?

My understanding re GSP is that the buyer pays the tariff upfront when they pay for your item.

You can use GSP for all non-US international destinations, as any non-GSP international delivery service chosen overrides GSP.

Re: Going to ship to the US & bypass the Global Shipping Programme - no tariffs applied by eBay?

Why? Might be a bit slower than Royal Mail International Tracked but works fine for me as a seller & buyer.

Just to add that to be on the safe side though, only have the US as the only location you ship to in GSP.

Saw your original post - how much % was applied as tariffs to the sale of the CD?

Just to add that putting the tracking reference number in at https://trackpb.shipment.co/track often brings up more info than is visible on eBay.
