Global Shipping delay meant buyer opened a case & got refunded

I’m just a personal seller so don’t deal with lots of selling and very rare overseas so don’t know how the process works. I sold an item through the Global Shipping Programme and sent to their centre via Royal Mail. I had no indication of any problem until the buyer opened a case for non delivery. When I checked the Royal Mail tracking didn’t indicate it had been delivered to the global shipping centre. I tried to open a compensation case with RM but they then stated it had been delivered. Sure enough I then got a notification from the global shipping centre saying the item had been processed. In the meantime eBay closed the case in favour of the buyer and took the payment back from me. When I appealed the decision eBay said that because the item didn’t ship within the timescale the original decision was correct. So I have lost the item for no payment and the buyer will now get the item for free?! Surely this can’t be right, what can I do?

This is why I have turned off Global Shipping as an option.

Just sold an item to Germany and much easier to simply list it directly yourself.

Also for some reason eBay let me choose and buy my own postage and bypassed simple delivery.

£7.99 for a small parcel size and tracked to Germany (buyer paid postage costs).

I did sell an item via Global Shipping a few years ago nit knowing it was an option turned on. I paid to send item worth more than £350 to Global Shipping centre and they forwarded it on to the USA with no issues.

However the buyer contacted me a few times begging me to reduce the shipping costs. I was charging what Royal Mail charge for insured to £500 at the time. It was the massive costs Global shipping added on he was seeing at his end and thus expensive.

Do you have proof that the item was posted within the timescale?

If so, call CS. Make sure you tell them that this is a GSP item and it was received at the hub. Tell them that RM did not scan it but you have proof that you sent it in time and it is not your fault.

Simple Delivery is UK-UK only.

As far as I can see, as soon as the delivery estimate has passed, a buyer can raise a not received case and after a few days, if no proof of delivery, escalate for a refund - which will probably be given (in some cases maybe not if tracking is showing it is moving and already close to being delivered). It doesn't matter if you shipped it on time and even have that receipt. It the same even for national deliveries (unless using Simple Delivery.)

When did RM say it had been delivered? i.e. was it late arriving at the GSP hub?
