ebay playing silly games with categories to stop Custom Postage opt-out and force Simple Delivery?

The published link for Simple Delivery opt-out is below.  This implies that if the value is under a tenner and large letter is used, there are lots of categories where it applies, but in reality, I have only been able to get Custom Postage to pop up against certain selected categories, and the pattern is really weird and highly suspicious IMO.

Everything Else > Other - suggested to me by ebay C/S a few minutes ago works fine.

But take the example of postcards which by definition are likely to be low value and postable, where the article suggests they would be fine i.e. it says  "Collectables (e.g. Trading Cards, Card Games, Badges & Patches, Postcards)".

Collectables > Postcards & Supplies > Postcards > Non-Topographical Postcards - WORKS FINE, I SEE CUSTOM DELIVERY

Collectables > Postcards & Supplies > Postcards > Topographical Postcards - DOES NOT WORK, I ONLY SEE SIMPLE DELIVERY

So it seems to me that ebay have randomly selected categories to be eligible based on no logic whatsoever, where it is impossible to know if they are eligible without selecting them - making it an infurating process to try to.   There is certainly no reason in the real world why (say) a joke postcard can be sent Custom Delivery whereas a postcard of my home town is mandated to be Simple Delivery.

Alternately, this is a systems issue - but one that ebay have no incentive to acknowledge or fix.

Facinating! Have you flagged up these Custom Delivery glitches for eBay. As we've all experienced, IT can't fix it if you don't report it. And they prioritize what they are 'working on' by demand. Personally I report the lack of Custom Postage anytime my item is £10 or under, fits 2nd Class Large Letter, and is under 100g. Sometimes the categories have been fixed after being reported (use the ? icon within the listing as you're making it).

Topographical postcards works ok for me

It seems it’s glitchy for some

i agree with you there’s no obvious logic to allowing one category but not another if the size/weight/price is right

eg CDs allowed

vinyl singles not allowed

@edwardian-dreams  Thanks - I have re-tested and topographical postcards is now working for me too.  I agree - if a listing meets the basic criteria for opt-out, there is no reason for ebay to be messing about trying to factor the categories in.

@style_wise  yes, I raised this with ebay C/S this morning using another bizarre one I stumbled across as an example - accessories for toy bears wouldn't work, but they would for toy dolls.   They accepted what I had reported was correct after taking a look at the draft listing but didn't seem that interested - but perhaps they did do something with it after all.  Plenty more I can't select so I'll dig a bit further.
