GPSR has anyone actually got their head round it yet ?

Ok so here is yet another GPSR question..

Has anyone actually managed to fill in the ebay drop down boxes yet with regards to used IT ?

We sell used IT and do not have original packaging for a 5 year old laptop nor do we have any manuals or the home address of the guy who worked in the QA dept of said company nor do I know the name of his dog or what he had for breakfast last tuesday!

Nor do I know who is reponsible in some far off land for safety recalls or health and safety notices or even where the muster point is for a fire drill in said factory...

What is all this nonsense ? Red tape simply to shut down small business and punish Uk for brexit ?

Who seriously that sells used IT is going to have any of this information ? complete and utter red tape which  is likely to shut us all down in the end.

Cannot be good for ebay either think how much ebay UK is going to lose as we are no longer able to use GSP or sell to NI.

Has anyone in IT resales got any ideas as as far as I see it come December it is turn off GSP and block NI.

For example if I want to sell a used Dell laptop from 2018 I do not have any packaging , manuals or saftey notices and have no clue who the responsible person is or from what country they are in let alone who they are.

Am I supposed to now ring round the world trying to find out who is in charge of said product ? I am sure Dell have better things to do as do I.

I understand this is not ebay's fault but if something ie some compromise is not come to is going to be pretty miserable come new year for UK sellers.

Have looked into this a few times and just cannot get my head round the drop boxes to put in said information. I assume there needs to be some level of accuracy but as stated above I have no original manuals or paperwork as does anyone else who resells bulk or used IT as machines come in on pallet or dribs and drabs and never have any sundries with them.

Personally I am struggling  with this and currently in December will just pull plug on EU and NI as is just not worth all the agro .. However is not really the right attitude and should be more motivated and get these boxes ticked to carry on selling the odd laptop part once a month or so to NI or EU so if anyone has any ideas of a work arround or anyone from ebay has any inf or tips I am all ears.

Think the Bods at ebay need to work some magic here on simple sollutions otherwise come next year things will be bleak for ebay and its members in the UK methinks..

Rant over..

It's not just ebay but all marketplaces and, as far as I am aware, not just UK (Brexit beating), but anywhere outside EU NI Ch and a few other European places.

How you, selling used IT, move forward, I have no idea but possibly similarly for us and our charms, we will have to make notices in the local languages saying, "Do not stick this charm up your nose" Do not insert in your ear Do not swallow the charm.  You only have to look in a car manual nowadays for the idiotic warnings that you think "Why would anyone do that".  I am sure they have learned over the years that there's always someone that will do THAT and unless they can say "We told them not to do that in the manual" then will be sued.

The "responsible person" part you may be able to use Dell's offices in EU or whatever computer makes there are.  For us we will have to employ the services of  company to say THEY are our responsible person.

As you mention, the likes of ebay / amazon / fruugo /onbuy and the list goes on and on, will lose millions and millions in fees after December 13th 2024.

Do note that GPSR applies to sellers IN the EU as well as outside it. It simply applies to all products (bar a few categories for some reason) being placed on the EU and NI market.

Re: GPSR has anyone actually got their head round it yet ?

Definitely not easy for the preloved/used goods market I have to agree its a bit messy and confusing and a very slow start from the platform in terms of information and communication.

There are posts, that are with good intent are the posters interpretation and sometimes incorrect and sometimes not fully informed, understandibly so, its complicated.

There also appears? to be a timescales to the age of the products sellers that may or may not be exempt? with no understanding from the platform how to list correctly with exemptions if they are exempt?

Also has been, may still be? great difficulty in communicating with the platform on GPSR/Compliance Dept issues and the usual CS level of performance, add in opinions that compared to its competitors its seems to have been made over complicated? Could it be made easier?

All the above form the many, many, many GPSR threads, I dip in and dip out so may have missed important pieces of information, dont think I have

Personally, as the Christmas rush ends I will remove EU&NI take the small loss of sales in a quieter period and watch, wait and see what develops, looks as if it might get messier,  waiting might be a less stressful option.
