FUNDS HELD NEW EBAY POLICY! CLOSING ACCOUNT AFTER 19 YEARS!

Im absolutely furious! Ebay have changed their policy and are now refusing to pay monies (which belong to the buyer) until the item has been posted and received!!

I have been selling on Ebay for 19 years and this is how we are being treated?

I will NOT pack and post my valuable antiques until I have been paid! I have never heard anything so ridiculous! Can we not be trusted? Shame on you Ebay! You are the loser here! I have now cancelled all sales and 67 listings and I will find another platform to sell my antiques with someone that values me!!

Re: FUNDS HELD NEW EBAY POLICY! CLOSING ACCOUNT AFTER 19 YEARS!

i see many say upgrade to a business , yea you might get the money faster ... or at least what is left of it . i went self employed at the start of last year , i still paid my seller fee so there was not much reason to change the account after 15 years . ok had half a year of reduced fees sale ... still paid my shop subscription and i did change to a business this month  and just need to point out the schocking increase in fee's . if you have a few hunderd items you will look at at least 20 % of your total sales go to ebay fee's . in my case as in the month before the changes i opted in on advertising some of the items , this combined with the fact i had 2600 items that now get charged to be relisted or take the more expensive shop option ( i have already taken down hundreds of items otherwise selling at pennies ) the higher shop fee on top of it has seen a 35 % increase in fee's from my total sales .

i will try and sell off / reduce stock what i have here but have already started putting items on etsy as the fee's are lower

Thank you. I think the more people who protest by cancelling their items the better!

Re: FUNDS HELD NEW EBAY POLICY! CLOSING ACCOUNT AFTER 19 YEARS!

I ended all my listings by the 2nd feb after 17yrs. I don’t rely on the income but was a great way to sell old items and bits from kids & grandkids to purchase them new toys & clothes ect.. I don’t agree with new policies so no longer buy or sell. Am keeping an eye on forums but unless things change then I will not return.

Re: FUNDS HELD NEW EBAY POLICY! CLOSING ACCOUNT AFTER 19 YEARS!

I can understand if you stopped paying attention to my posts but I think I may finally have an angle now.

If a private sale to a consumer is conditional on a consumer to business transaction, in this case for eBay's BPF, a service and you cannot buy a private sale without it, how is it still as private sale.

Without the business side the private side can't exist in their new rules.

So the business transaction is the main factor.

I've been running through it in my head, leaving posts so I don't forget my thoughts, so it's split before but the above is the main point.

I've yet to see anyone counter it either.

Unfortunately loyality doesn't count for anything thesedays.   I've been for 20+ years and had an item VeRo removed because a third party company complained it was a fake without giving evidence.

Sadly ebay did a cancel culture on me and just removed item. I actually have the receipt ,order number, photo, price paid , date, image of item in an email which proves i bought it from company.

You're getting into an area that would need one of ebay's lawyers to explain fully. But it's a charge for a service (BPF) like the FVF was a charge for a service - selling - and nobody thought the FVF was illegal. Expensive but not illegal.

Re: FUNDS HELD NEW EBAY POLICY! CLOSING ACCOUNT AFTER 19 YEARS!

Thank you. I appreciate the reply.

& I do understand where you are coming from but people spent over a decade paying for Dixons Group Extended Warranties. The ones that they were making customers pay for the first year. So I think it's fair to assume all of those people in that timeframe didn't think that was illegal either. If they did, why didn't any of them challenge it?

But when someone finally did complain the right way, Dixons Group were punished. It was a slam dunk case. They knew what they were doing the entire time. But what they played off was consumer ignorance.

That's one example, there are many.

Re: FUNDS HELD NEW EBAY POLICY! CLOSING ACCOUNT AFTER 19 YEARS!

Hi

Thank you for your reply, I posted a really long reply to the gentleman who
was telling me to still enjoy designing and what I do; but I am not sure it
sent and I was far to upset to go through it all again. I was very tired
last night and in pain from all the upset. People are such bullies on line,
they don’t even know your the position you are in financially. I literally
have no money to start a business regardless of trying because of my
circumstances. Anyway it seems there are the few kind people that really
understand the predicament. It’s hard. I’ve tried to start a couple of
businesses over the years; with no luck in this present climate. It’s hard
anyway now there is no high street etc anymore. Everything is on line,
everyone is going to these big shops or big corporations to buy. When I was
in graphics I could buy what I wanted, I had designer clothes; there were
successful companies and small companies. It’s a different world and not
nice and unfortunately the people aren’t the same either especially in the
UK. You used to be able to go out and say hello to complete strangers; you
can’t now. You used to enjoy shopping, driving and many other things. The
whole of Birmingham is filled with B&M after B&M and supermarkets. I have
pretty decent qualifications but there are no jobs, especially ones I want.
I’m not even able to get a supermarket job with thousands fighting over 1
application. The UK has gone backwards and the small man or business is
fighting to stay a float. After my breakdown and keeping pushing and going,
and working 45 to 70 hrs a week on minimum wage; fighting to afford just
the simplest of things. Which I did for 15 yrs after working in graphics
for 25. I was in weddings working for a wedding venue just before Covid, it
was a lovely job. It closed because of Covid and I wasn’t entitled to
furlough. I carried on after for a while he wouldn’t put me on a contract
and I wanted my tax paid. I still pay tax now through my tax points I built
for all the hrs and work I did over 30 odd yrs. I am lucky I know to get
any support, but it’s still doesn’t pay the bills. I have seen so many long
standing small companies close. I was doing ok selling second hand clothes
I have at home, but I have moved house 35 times and lost a lot along the
way. I feel for people trying or who have a business and can’t compete now.
I tried doing freelance floristry but it’s the same in Birmingham you can’t
compete. If you haven’t had a shop for 30 yrs people go to the shop they
know until it shuts which many have and the likes of the cooperative buy
them out, who I worked for for 20 yrs. there is no call here and everyone
doesn’t want to pay, your just making a loss. I know, I’ve tried and even
doing graphics feeelance they want to pay you £20 for hrs of work. I did
some freelance last year; designed a flyer, video, logo, YouTube banner and
social media adverts and he paid me £70 out of £85 lol when I was getting
more for floristry on minimum wage for hrs of work. He threatened to take
me to small claims court and wanted £50 back lol I could show you what I
designed for him and you would laugh. I told him they would be telling him
to give me more money and just to get into small claims you have to pay
£50. I ended up blocking him and that was that. I do free things for
friends when I am able, with nothing in return. I can’t even afford to
advertise. I am lucky even that google merchant lets you put things up.
Even my website is £22 pounds which I am not making back and could go on
food or bills. Anyway thank you for your reply. I hope you find a solution
and hope you don’t have to lose profit. Oh and I tried Etsy even paid for
two shops which you have to pay to get an Etsy shop and they threw me off
saying I didn’t suit their business. I inevitably lost that money as well.
I want to try something else if this doesn’t take off,, maybe baby and
children’s clothes, little ones not teenagers… unfortunately even kids are
spoiled these days and want the most expensive brands. I don’t know how
parents survive with families.
Take care

To me it feels like they are holding my money to ransom.

Plus eBay will be making some nice interest on the money they hold in there account which is not there moneys

I can confirm that I have 20+ item s in pending and at least 6 have received positive feedback and the item is still in pending.  I also have a few tracked items that have been delivered and are also still in pending.

Is this not what you expected after 4th February?

The positive feedback rule hasn't kicked in yet.

Re: FUNDS HELD NEW EBAY POLICY! CLOSING ACCOUNT AFTER 19 YEARS!

After 23 years on Ebay I'm going to try to sell and buy as little as I can. I don't agree with the new BPF at all.

I'm an avid hobbyist and when I get too excited and over buy, I  let it go on Ebay.

Some folks over the  years have got some tremendous gear from me that I still miss.

It's also great for buying small items weekly.

But not any more.

I'll be looking more to AliExpress for small items that I need.

So long Ebay  - it's been a great near quarter of a century.

Re: FUNDS HELD NEW EBAY POLICY! CLOSING ACCOUNT AFTER 19 YEARS!

Then the system is working as it should.

I have two payments that show I will be paid tomorrow as they were delivered yesterday and one payment that is showing in my total funds with no payment date yet.  (Sent tracked but stuck at a sorting office.)

As has been repeatedly stated, you will be paid for items under £10, 24 hours after receiving positive feedback but this does not start until the end of February.
