So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.
Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method as before.
Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....
I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:
"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."
The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.
I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

Yes I know
i was being facetious and asking why eBay would not allow a policy theyve put in place
because it can and does happen
All too often at the moment
quite unacceptable and unprofessional
having said that I’ve not heard of many people saying their allowed exempt category under the weight price and size rules and choice of postage has been overridden by simple delivery
but I’m sure they exist for sure

Wow. I am surprised that ebay wants to lose clients so much? Many like myself for various reasons want to use the delivery system and route they want to and not what ebay wants them to use. Alternatives will be found.

They must be getting a rake-off from the couriers.
They cannot possibly know how much a packaged items weighs, and I need my items COLLECTED.
When the morons did this blanket change, they even applied postage to items that were listed as free postage!

One issue is that as private sellers no longer pay fees, eBay isn't losing out in that respect. Instead eBay now makes its money from buyers and the so-called Buyer Protection Fee.It seems to me that if eBay loses sellers, it doesn't matter because buyers will just choose to buy from somebody else instead. As long as ebay makes a sale it earns a fee.The whole thing has just become a giant impersonal online shopping mall.Sent from my Galaxy smartphone
Your fallacy is assuming that the 'somebody else' they buy from is an ebay seller. There are alternative platforms. It's not year 2000, when ebay was the only game in town.
And your second fallacy is to assume that those lost sellers are unrelated to the number of buyers. Quite a number of people have remarked the past few months that their selling here gave them a piggy bank that they could then splurge guilt free on impulse purchases... not selling means they don't do this.

They can guess how much for some items e.g. by EAN, and in a general sense RM/Evri and ebay will just be happy for the extra business (IMO).
You can have RM SD items collected.

It's pretty obvious that someone browsing ebay may well end up choosing from any number of ebay sellers that remain if other (eg disaffected) sellers decide not to bother listing any more. Either way, Ebay still earns a fee from the buyer, is my point. Of course there are other platforms, but not every one of them is familiar to or used by everyone. Or even safe. That's why eg *t*y and V***** are currently advertising on mainstream TV.

That's nothing new. Holding back a bit in the kitty has been a thing ever since early Paypal days 20+ years ago, when Paypal wasn't even FCA regulated. Personally I won't do that, if only because I don't see why they should sit on my money and earn themselves interest. Some Chinese platforms do pay out the equivalent of interest on a seller's Alipay balances. "Quite a few" sellers splurging out of ~10 million+ UK users, won't even touch the sides.

so bad how this has been forced as the post office i now have to use isnt as close as the two i use now/ridiculous how complex they make things

no you cant opt out now its a joke

ive no printer and the post office they say i have to use is further away than the 2 i use now

This is a BAD BAD move, being forced to send with their fixed prices. So what happens when you are sending an item tricky to pack, and your time sending it, not only eBay is then getting commission on your labor, if the item is returned for any reason all your time and effort is lost.
I used to add the exact postage amount, but that still, being forced to something is not helping with trusting the service I actually have been enjoying using for over 20 years.

So some signs that ebay are listening: they have made it possible to book a RM collection through the ebay app which is a positive step forward. BUT still only two choices for courier I believe RM and EVri - how about adding InPost?

EBay can’t tell you what post office to use
????

Call them and leave your feedback! If all of us will tell them that Simple Delivery is *bleep*, there is a chance they cancel it.

Except when you book a collection you still need to print - even though it tells you you don’t. It’s really confusing and bizarre. I was happy paying 30p per label upon collection and now I’m going to be forced to invest in a label printer if I want to sell on here

There's another thread
Re: Simple delivery and Royal Mail's Bring my Label collection service.
Post 41 shows what I think may help you.

When you say post 41 what do you mean, sorry? I checked message 41 in this thread and it doesn’t seem to correspond to what I’m talking about

It is post 41 of another titled thread namely
Simple delivery and Royal Mail's Bring my Label collection service.
Look for that on the forum as it shows a screenshot of where you click to get your label brought to you on collection.
