Did you mean:

Ebay simple delivery opt out

So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.

Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method  as before.

Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....

I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:

"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."

The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.

I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

I've not used that but I'm going to look at vinted.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Just be aware Vinted also do pretty much a version of Simple Delivery (though it does account for combined purchases better). It also does a Buyer Protection Fee.

That being said - things tend to sell quicker over there - but I'd say prices are lower.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

i would always use royal mail signed for  - over many years.

it was ALWAYS fine - never a single problem.

this new system is better for obey profits

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Signed For was fine until they downgraded the compensation to £20.

If you accept Simple Delivery, and deselect Evri, your items will be sent using Royal Mail Tracked 48, with compensation up to £750, and Ebay taking responsibility for cases opened if items are lost or damaged in transit.

To me, that is a better option.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I have tried to opt out. The postage only needs large letter but has come up at around £3. No wonder I am not selling anything

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

not disputing the postage will impact some sellers of some products. For example those flight socks will be able to be bought cheaper from a business seller with lower postage. But they could do well over on other platforms.

Also, currently you have individual Tupperware items listed but Tupperware is spelt incorrectly (possibly affecting search) . Similar with the other listings, the titles aren’t descriptive enough (IMO)

You could bundle the Tupperware together so the postage price being higher isn’t as much of an issue.

its a case of having to work with the platform, or of course not list and hope the platform sees a downturn in sales.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Hi @missmolly10

For opting out you must put in a price (below £20) first then select Large letter under the SD banner. If A Custom Delivery box does not appear, then you can change the category.

As an example, the flight socks. If I was searching for Flight Socks I would Simply search for "Flight Socks" I would never have found them if i was searching by category and this category does not give Custom postage.

I might have found them here though and this category does offer custom postage.

Health & Beauty>Other Health & Beauty

As a rule of thumb most of the sub categories beginning with "other" can be selected for Custom Postage.

I would personally question the use of auction for new Flight socks, I think generally auctions work better for collectables... JMHO

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Not any more! I have reviewed the items that have been sitting there for a while and ebay has converted the original postage information to SD!

Hi @tygeist  Do you mean your books? Sell under category "books" and it will be Custom delivery.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

@mintsource3000 Your magazine Outdoor Swimmer, is listed on Collectables, other collectables which when I try to list gives Custom delivery. As does books, but not magazines. Who knows why.

You must put in a price and select Large Letter under the simple delivery box for custom to come up. Otherwise it will assume it is still the parcel size it self selects and will not allow the custom box to appear.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Umm, Pretty sure when I first tried Books - Magazines that it would only allow SD, so had to go under Collectables, makes more sense under books and looks like it works now so may slowly start to move all of them back as defaulting as you say to parcel.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Thin I got to the bottom of it - no help from Ebay mind. Its nothing to do with VAT, Customer services said that... Its to do with the SD - and them charging large letter 1kg (mine was literally a few grams) and when the buyer requested combined postage for 2 items the same weight they pushed the charge up to being a small parcel.

The package combined was a large letter it weighed just a few hundred grams buyer got charged as a 2kg parcel. 🙁

Its so frustrating,

But least I worked it out, no thanks to ebay 🙁

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I hate the fact there is no letter option. Im selling some of my personal stamp collection on my private ID. Under £20, its fine, custom delivery (and if I were to buy a label from ebay for this, letters are available - I don’t buy labels, I was curious so had a look) and it all combines nice. I sell a stamp for £20+ and its simple delivery and large letter. My stamps weigh 20g (approx) when packed so it’s ridiculous. If I sell a high value stamp, I like to send it special delivery too. I don’t care what ebay covers up to, I like to handle it myself. I also don’t like how ebay can’t combine properly. They have set a postage stamp at LL 1kg. Buy 2 and I can see it going to small parcel. And there is absolutely no way on earth I will let Evri handle a letter. They can’t manage a parcel a lot of the time, a letter is just going to get lost in the ether!
