Ebay simple delivery opt out

So ebay have decided to force private sellers to use simple delivery for all listings.

Previously you could select advanced options in postage and select your preferred postage method  as before.

Did ebay announce this to private sellers - did they ....

I searched around a while and eventually got this from the chat bot:

"Eligible listings will show Simple Delivery as an option when you're creating a listing. Starting 15 April, 2025, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing eligible items."

The recent changes like BPF and simple delivery have been extremely irritating but not terminal. I think this is terminal for me.

I cannot express on this forum without getting deleted my extreme annoyance with ebay.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Come the 6th August it won't matter, if you sell on Ebay it's SD.....no exemptions no opt outs.....and then you can bet it will start to branch into the Business section...

The forcing of Simple Delivery means my selling days on eBay are probably over. There’s no longer a way out of using it, apparently. Yesterday was the first time I sold something and had to use Simple Delivery. Despite being charged for postage, the option for getting a label or QR code was greyed out. I could despatch the item independently, but there’s no option now to mark items as despatched or to add a tracking number. So, in effect, to eBay the item will remain un-despatched! In the end, I cancelled the order and refunded the customer.

What an absolute waste of time this is. And to call the option Simple Delivery is the biggest joke of all! It’s like eBay are going out of their way to lose customers.

I hope you told the buyer why you had to cancel.  Buyers who understand what's happening will join the exodus.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I thought the same thing but I went in and changed the item to a large letter (it was showing as small parcel) and then it brought up custom postage for me to arrange my own delivery.  It's worth a try.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I have listed on eBay for 23 years, and for me Simple Delivery is effectively terminal for my selling model. I need the option of a simple 2nd class stamp! Come on eBay, I have phoned you twice about this. Simple Delivery is hugely regressive. It smacks of 'GroupThink', which was incredibly dangerous to M&S in the 1980s. Don't go down that path!

For your GG badges? Try listing them in category

Collectables > Badges & Patches > Collectables Patches > Club & Association Patches or similar.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I second what you have said - I just had an hour on chat trying to combine postage for a buyer, which was prevented by eBay. It angered the buyer and I lost the sale - so eBay have lost out on both fronts here. I am done with eBay now, whoever made this change has implemented a policy which has fundamentally changed how eBay works. Its going to put off hoardes of people, I think this is the end for eBay (its been in decline for years now)

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Thanks for the answer. It worked a treat. Back to the old days where we can set sensible postage rates. Really appreciate. Far quicker than 2 hours of phone calls with eBay customer service!!! Just got to work out how to combine postage next......

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

My items are Large Letter size 35.3 x 25 x 2.5cm and under 250g sent 2nd class - Royal Mail cost is £1.80.

Private seller using Simple Delivery, same size, same weight - Royal Mail cost is now £2.72 a 50%+ increase.
Can this be right?

Have you tried Rick's solution which is in several posts?

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

For £2.72, the buyer does get a tracked service which protects you as well.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

But for something cheap, it's never worth using Tracked.

And for something thin and light, a second class ordinary letter stamp is 85p, compared with £2.70 for SD.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

It is sorted. I needed to go to the scouting/guiding sub category and I can return to choosing my own (sensible) postage rates for what I sell. I still think Simple Delivery will damage eBay more than benefit it. That is my prediction, let's see. Too much 'Big Brother'.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I'm with you. Simple Delivery is effectively the end for many sellers who cannot justify that postage rate for the item value they sell. I personally have found the 'scouting/guiding' sub category in collectable badges and can now choose my postage rate. Not worked out entirely how to combine my postage (I can sell many badges and ship with one 2nd class stamp in an envelope), but I'll humour eBay for a while to try and work it out.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Yep, and unless the eBay community tells eBay that Simple Delivery is a bad business move for many hobbyists on eBay like myself, eBay risks losing a lot of small sellers. Itt's the worst thing I've seen happen to eBay in 23 years of happily selling away on this platform.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

I agree with the comments. This is a total disaster for seller choice. Locking you in to a courier when there may be cheaper options available. Lets see which alternative grows to fill the space ebay is creating for competitors.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

This SD is disgraceful from eBay. What right do they have to dictate what postage option I use when selling my items? - none.

I used to - like others - select who I wanted to use according to the value of the item etc - now it’s just Royal Snail Or Evri.

I used to be able to use Yodel and it was dead handy for me to drop off stuff at my local drop stop which is a 2min walk from home - now I can’t use that option and it was particularly handy for me as a full time carer for my mother.

I wonder what the other couriers we can no longer choose from rate this SD decision by eBay. I imagine they’re not too happy as they’ve been effectively written off as an option for sellers like me.

I can’t see myself wanting to sell much more on eBay, it’s just downright outrageous that they’re forcing this on us.

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

Seems like the only way to get postage options back is to just list whatever you’re selling in the wrong category that eBay have said SD is not obligatory to use……I just changed on of my listings to clothes>purses & wallets and my previous Yodel option as well as the others was there.

Ebays list of non-obligatory SD categories:

Re: Ebay simple delivery opt out

You’ll only be able to do that if your item is under 100g and under £10 and LL or less size
