Ebay's new buyer protection scam

So I have been a seller on and off her since June 2001, Over the years I have sent items recorded delivery that either never turn up , or arrive with no notification of delivery.  Now someone wants to charge a buyer a fee for safe delivery, when they would have been charged that in the P&P cost.  Frankly it sounds more like a scam than customer service and Ebay are also trying to force us to use their shipping option, So much for free enterprise, sound like trying to get the monopoly on delivery as well.  As for hanging on the sellers cash til 2 days after delivery, really so post office goes on strike and you don't get paid, Think I may start looking to leave. So much for eBay's loyalty to us .

Ebay's new buyer protection scam

1oz silver bullion coins are £30-£32 on average.

Long story short:

Sellers bought them for around 29-30, sell them on ebay for 30-32 (because this is max price most buyers are willing to pay) .

Now, let's have a look what happened after that fee was added...

I am sure there are more situations/details like that, where sellers are..   screwed?..

How were the sellers pricing the same items when they had to pay 12.8% + 30p fee? Were they charging £36-40 to make some money out of the sale?

Genuine question.

Quick calcs if they sold for £32 they would have been paying around £4.39 in fees so would be losing on each item sold if they paid £30, also if they are buying to sell why are they using a private account?

I am still struggling to see how a seller is being screwed as you put it, aren't the sellers screwing their buyers by overcharging and not thinking about the buyer in anyway except what they are going to get back, but as long as they are alright it's okay I guess.

No.

There were "0 fees" listings , "sell for free" listings available for many months  (probably still are for some sellers) etc.

There are many private collectors, stackers etc who want to sell some of their coins and are not dealers/ business sellers.

I am not sure what you mean by "aren't the sellers screwing their buyers by overcharging and not thinking about the buyer in anyway"   looks like some negative emotions/ trauma/ terrible experience you got with "the sellers"?

The free selling was never going to last, it was the worst kept secret, you can't base anything on that, in fact the seller is a fool if they thought it was forever and didn't plan for some sort of fee being added.

I personally couldn't care less about any other seller on here, I look after my own house, sales are up 25% year on year on eBay this February, we took a hit over Q4 due to the businesses abusing the fee free selling but the chickens have come home to roost as they say, these sellers are now priced similar to us which I would say by us offering a returns policy and now we are taking their sales but as a business as a whole including eBay we still saw growth of 18% so no I have no terrible experience with any seller.

I actually spend quite a bit with private sellers on here, there was a poster on here who almost got a nice sale from me until I read the *bleep* they had been writing so I went with another seller who offered an amazing service.

Ebay's new buyer protection scam

my attitude exactly, i try to sell for what i want for an item (what i think it is worth), sometimes i drop the price as time passes others i keep them the same.  If someone wants the exact item in the colour and size etc (i sell mostly clothes items) then i doubt they are going to be bothered about a few pence here or there or even a £.  As a buyer i was looking for a skirt a couple of days ago, found someone selling three of a type i wanted and in a size that fitted and they had BPF on them.  I only wanted one really but it was such a good bargain for 3 i bought it.  Did i worry about the BPF, not at all.  Just relieved after looking for weeks that i had found what i wanted.

No - the buyer pays the fee.  Not the seller.  The fee is added to the price that the seller is asking.

If the buyer sends a seller an offer and the seller accepts, the seller gets less than the offer they receive.

So in that situation the seller is very much paying the Buyer Fee.

Inevitably, when "The fee is added to the price that the seller is asking" sellers (perhaps not all) may conclude that they have to reduce their asking price to stand a better chance of getting a sale, and that was the point being made by myriad*seller.

Others may decide to round the price up, just for a laugh!

The offer you send includes BPF, so reducing the amount the seller actually receives.

The seller gets £8.92. That is problem. You think you are offering a fair price, but eBay deduct their fees from it. For lower cost items, this has a big impact. Making the "sell for free" worst than when we actually had selling fees (which had zero standing charge and frequent discounts on FVF).

That's not misinformation. That's the truth. & to take it further if a seller sends you an offer of £10 what you will receive will be a higher amount including the BPF fees.

You may not like it, none of us do, but that is the *bleep* show eBay have created.

A round of applause for the big thinkers please.

Ebay's new buyer protection scam

It has happened to me personally.

if a seller makes a offer it is the sum that they want to receive. Buyers premium is added from the buyers pov.

if a potential buyers makes a offer it is the TOTAL they wish to pay. Buyers premium is then deducted. The sellers receives the net amount.

This is what I picked up about offers from various threads:

Buyer sends offer to private seller - seller accepts offer - ebay deduct BPF - seller gets the rest.

Private seller sends offer to buyer - buyer sees sellers offer plus BPF, not price seller offered.

The potential buyer offers the total amount they wish to pay. Say £10. Buyers premium is deducted from that so the seller receives the net amount £8.92. I know this for a confirmed fact.

It all depends on the direction of the offer. If a seller sends an offer to buyer the fee is added on. If the buyer sends the seller an offer the fee is deducted from the offer. All this is hidden away and you have to click on an extra link to see the detail.

Apart from different wording I'm not sure where the difference in what we said is.

The fact is when the seller receives an offer of £10 that is what they are expecting. That's why they accept it.

So when they receive less because of a "Buyer Fee" that means they are losing. Or I suppose you could say paying.
