I'm a private seller. Items I sell are between £2.90 - £10. Is It just me or will ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb make it near impossible to sell competitively. A few months ago Ebay got rid of Sellers' fees for private sellers, which was a welcome move. But this new change and getting rid of multi-buy discount for private sellers will make it worse than it was with the original fees.

Thanks for clarifying that it affects the business sellers on their private accounts.

as private sellers are also allowed on the business forums...... And of course the business sellers have a right to discuss the protection fees and buyer charges as it affect them.... in what way ?
Buyers can also post as it affects them in a very direct way rather than indirectly to sellers.

I would like to play devils advocate here and suggest massively increasing the SP of small value items sold by private sellers is not likely to be seen as an indirect consequence of the protection money. It is likely to affect them directly IMHO.

They have a choice.
Buyers don't.

Buyers do have a choice to not buy items, which will seem expensive compared with a 12 month rolling average SP. I believe there is a current groundswell which is evolving which is slowing down sales in some areas. As with all inflation this will eventually be absorbed back into the main cash flow outgoings.

Many years ago, I used to be a genuine private seller - not any more.
(Actually, more years now than I care to remember)
I wouldn't want to be such a seller at the moment - but I'm still a buyer (if the price and item is right for each other).
I look at anything as a coin - it has two sides.
But I am totally and vehemently against these pseudo-private parasites.
(Someone, and I apologise for not remebering who it was, said that this was too harsh a term - I don't think so; I stand by that description).

Parasite.... an organism living in, on, or with another organism in order to obtain nutrients, grow, or multiply often in a state that directly or indirectly harms the host. Seems apt for a seller forum. Are we just 5 minutes or the full half hour ?

Real life.
People have / will have less money - they're worried about their jobs, lack of future pay rises etc etc etc.
It's just, regretfully, another of those periods of time we're all going through.
Sellers just need to "ride the wave" - it's a buyer's market at the moment.

Its certainly a buyers market on eBay at the expense of the private seller. There is no wave to ride because their are and will be less and less boards to ride them. Unless you're selling high prices items, eBay is waste of time rip off site.

I always felt comfortable here on EBay, I had security against receiving poor quality items (not as described) and feel that everyone I counteracted with was a decent and honest person. I received good/positive feedback and really appreciated that, a sense of worth and gratitude for doing something well.
Sometimes things change/have to change and you will never gain a full mandate as people generally can only see 2 sides of the same coin (thanks for that DA.) so heads up for some and chasing our tails for the others.
I hope your sales pick up and continue, good luck.

I've always said that eBay wants rid of the low cost items - and, yes, that'll mean less of those items to see.
But what are the alternatives for those wishing to continue to sell - it's like it or lump it time - again.
Only for some , the grass is always greener ................

That may have been may saying it was harsh, but I did qualify it by saying "considering the company they are in".
At the time I didn't mean you, I was referring to eBay themselves. Their entire business model being parasitic in nature.
Just explaining, so no need for paranoia.

Ah, that wouldn't have mattered - don't worry about that.
I once objected to being called forthright - I objected because I'm not forthright, I'm blunt.

Better watch - will be accused of taking the thread off topic and being at a tangent from the heading (as most thraeds are anyway).
So, to the topic, eBay's new buyers' protection fee.
Silly idea.
Anyways, a good night to all, and to all ............

If you mean Everest double glazing, I'm old enough to remember that. 'You only fit the best once?' That didn't last.
Who has aluminium-framed windows now?
I did namecheck Arfur Daley and his Liquid Gold account yesterday, in reference to Ebay's 'nice little earner' with our payments. So may be a couple of years older than you imagine?😉

I have made a lot of posts.
I am against the buyer protection fee and have listed all my reasons why in said posts.
ibam against simple delivery and again, have posted why.
equally, I am furious that eBay will hold MY funds for 14 days to line their coffers with interest.
I am most definitely not a business seller. I am a private seller
and I am by far not the only one who objects for the same reasons
stop assuming that it’s sneaky business sellers hiding.

If every one of those Pandora charms you have sold over the years were/are your own personal charms and not bought to sell, then yes, you are a private seller.

Every single one of those Pandora charms is mine. Has been bought by me, or for me, has been worn by me for years. And I have the receipts!!!!!!
I no longer wear them so I separated them to sell.
they’re a discontinued range so people still want them
not that I need to justify myself to you

And genuine Pandora can’t be bought wholesale, nor has this range been available for years
if you were a collector of pandora, who had ever owned an essence bracelet you may get it
you didn’t
