I'm a private seller. Items I sell are between £2.90 - £10. Is It just me or will ebay's new Buyers' protection fee from the 4th Feb make it near impossible to sell competitively. A few months ago Ebay got rid of Sellers' fees for private sellers, which was a welcome move. But this new change and getting rid of multi-buy discount for private sellers will make it worse than it was with the original fees.

Nothing has happened at all yet. What the bloody hell are eBay doing?
I've removed all my listings until or indeed if this is sorted out.

They must have withdrawn from other changes. I sold something yesterday on my private account and normally got my money unlocked today for transer. But the message about 4 Feb payout changes was still sitting on the withdrawal screen 🙂
Looks like ebay realised in the very last minute all proposed changes are not good idea.
Now awaiting SD nonsense next week.

Personally i think buyers fee should only really be applied in categories that are clearly going to be the most exploited (electronics, wholesale etc). Things like clothes and stuff shouldnt apply it in my opinion. Obv stopping multiple items would take care of the rest. I think ebay is thinking the same thing.

I have spoken to ebay
The system update to introduce BPF failed yesterday and caused users of the ebay App on Android to be locked out of the system for most of the day - they were 'overwhelmed' with calls on this issue
The plan is to 'try again' at 3pm today but the advice is to 'leave it for a few days'
If the roll out is successful all users will receive a message from ebay welcoming them to the exciting new way of working

Who says this ISN'T an exciting way of working already? We genuinely don't know when the new developments may be starting.
Even more exciting, Ebay haven't a clue either.
But 'peace of mind' is proving somewhat elusive.

The last time you spoke to ebay they gave you rubbish information. Personally I never believe a word a rep says.
The app issue seems to be to do with older operating systems, I doubt ebay will, or can, fix that.

@papso22 is correct totally wrong information you were offered from CS.
This is the information posted from a Community Manager here, a few days ago, for app users :
The latest eBay app version is no longer compatible with android 9 and below. It actually requires OS android 10 and above. If you have another device with android 10 and above you can check the most recently updated eBay app version and see if you can view images.
If you are using OS android 10 and above and still have issues with viewing images on the app please let me know. State what version you use and type of device and I'll have it looked into further by tech.

May I politely ask why you do not wish the issue with the app to be resolved?
I personally do not use the app, so I'm not affected by the above.
However, I can see from the many posts on these boards many members are very upset, and rightly so, but it's not a technical issue, and there is no fix to be made.

I think you will find that many older people don't "do" Apps generally. Many have tech issues and many "steal" your data. Personally I use a few essential ones, and that doesn't include eBay - which sadly has completely lost its way.

I don't do apps as everyone keeps telling me to use them yet are strangely reluctant to 'upgrade' my phone for me which has no room for them. I have not got £hundreds to spend on a new(er) one, and if I did putting the heating on would be a higher priority.

Precisley! And eBay seem totally unaware that we are in a financial Labour nightmare and people have less to spend on extras. So what do they do? Put the prices up. Idiots.
As an aside if you live in an area where your local council supports the Big Energy Switch look it up online. Its the best scheme to get the best deal and usually operates 3 time a year. Have a good day.

Ha ha i do not do Apps because i (by choice) do not even own a mobile phone 🙂
Glyn has a modern phone and to be honest constantly uses Apps and he is "an old boy" lol

14 years of Tory destruction has rather more to do with it.

And only Labour could be worse.

We shouldnt get political. Too many forget the impact of covid years, Ukraine etc overshadowed by the discredited black hole (or hole of colour) Naturally there is no lateral thinking that a country facing job cuts and increased costs of living would be overjoyed at being charged to buy something from private sellers but not from business sellers. Of course prices at bricks and mortar shops are the same on the shelves as at the checkout no fee for actually buying! Imagine tags saying price £10 but if you buy it its £10 ++ The coding to cope with auction listings must far outweigh the profits.

I am not being funny. All these young people forcing us to use mobile apps are heartless. I have got chunky fingers, poor eyesight .. and when I type, I had to use command + to zoom in. These so called techies are heartless, not inclusive!
I need to find other ways to sell my stuff. This is CRAAAAZZZZZy.
05-02-2025 2:23 PM
You don't have to use an app
It is optional, and doesn't work very well anyway!
You can sign into the normal website on your browser on your computer OR your phone and use ebay that way

'We shouldnt get political.'
Damn right.
I'm astonished at the amount of posters laying all these ebay and HMRC changes at the feet of the Labour govt (or, more rarely, that last 14 years of Tory govt).
Ebay is an American company, and the tax thing is OECD wide (that means basically the entire Western World)
