Ebay confirms when Simple Delivery will be Mandatory

Someone else posted this as a reply to an existing thread but thought I would post it separately.  It appears to be taken from one of ebay's terms and conditions pages but I do not have a link.

Ebay confirms when Simple Delivery will be Mandatory

My local Evri drop-off point is a shop I occasionally use, but it's not as convenient as my post office. If I made any sales on my private account, this is where I would expect to drop them (if Evri was selected by the buyer).

I spoke to the shopkeeper today. Evri haven't told him (a thoroughly nice chap) anything about this. He has only a small space to dedicate to Evri parcels, and can't deal with any more than about two sacks per day. Added to that, Evri often don't call to collect every day, and even now, he is regularly turning people away, as he doesn't have the capacity to take their parcels.

And eBay want us to use this....

I thought only business sellers can sell multiple items from the same listing (using a drop down menu)?

Regardless I am really thinking about combining sales from separate listings into one package. If this is not possible it's going to be chaos.

Ebay confirms when Simple Delivery will be Mandatory

So many posts about this, so many complaints, queries and unknowns... and this is supposed to be 'Simple'...?!

The least eBay could do when they introduce a major change, is to make sure they provide clear information & FAQs covering all the issues people will be most concerned about. We might not like it, but at least we would know what's what.

What with Managed Payments, Fund Holding, BPF, and now this Simple shambles... surely there can't be much left for them to muck about with...?

eBay allows bundling of items too BUT it's not as straightforward  as on V and I'm not sure if many buyers know about it.

@department28

Which way you going with that?

I read it and "SIMPLY ADULTERY" entered my head.

The completely unaceptable paret for me is that the BUYER chooses the delivery option they want I.E. the cheapest obviously.

When I sell I ALWAYS use a tracked option to eliminate the buyer claiming non-receipt. Now we can't do that it's a paradise for dodgy buyers to claim non-receipt!!

Yes, certainly some will choose the cheapest, but a lot of buyers are rightly very wary about Evri, so they would probably opt for RM, if available.

It is just going to be so frustrating not being able to choose whatever courier & service is most convenient/suitable for your own circumstances, and to not be able to tinker about with prices etc, as & when.

They haven't forced us to buy their branded packaging yet. When they do there will probably be a new evil twist like letting the buyer select a box smaller than the item will fit etc and then making sellers pay for the box upgrade and being scored down on a packaging efficiency metric. Maybe they could call it Smart Packaging.

I predict RM seeing an increase in non-receipt claims from ebay items!

My first and, up till now, only purchase on ebay using simple delivery showed me 'standard' or 'express' options but didn't tell me anywhere on the listing which courier was doing which.  I only found out when the seller uploaded the tracking code.

I'm going to take a wild guess that the complete and utter CLOWN who has come up with this latest bananas scheme has never sold a single item on ebay...it's beyond ridiculous.

I'm willing to give it a go once or twice BUT if it doesn't work for me then i'll stop selling on ebay & they will become my very last resort when buying items.

Having used ebay for 20 years (1500 odd sales with 100% positive feedback) to shift unwanted stuff, declutter my loft, declutter my mother's loft etc etc it is now apparent that loft clearers like me, recycling low value items, are not profitable enough for ebay to want to bother with us. (Or is it just a complete lack of trust.) I have mentioned this on other threads, so sorry for the repetition, but I think I am going to abandon ebay and go for the lifetime-fee-free option on ebid (£69 I think to upgrade, or £138 outright) and hope I live long enough to get my money's worth and make it worthwhile.

In the Q&A there is this:

What if the label provided is not appropriate for my item?

If your parcel exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, and you listed using our recommended size and weight for your item, you won't have to pay any additional costs. Just go ahead and use the Simple Delivery postage label, as we’ve made sure the carrier will accept your package for delivery.

If you provided the size and weight of the item yourself, and these happen to be inaccurate, you’ll be responsible for covering any additional costs.

So if I have something weighing 4kg but when listing it Ebay recommends it as 2kg, when it sells it seems to imply that the customer will be charged for 2kg, and the label produced will be accepted at the post office and Ebay will receive an additional charge that they will pay.  That seems remarkably generous of Ebay!  Might this explain why some rates have been boosted above Royal Mail published prices?

Cancelled my listings for now, it isn't seller friendly, not in a hurry to sell what I had left and will ask my daughter for other sites as she sells things on a few.

People that sell things on Ebay often buy things on Ebay with that money, it sounds obvious but maybe not to Ebay Staff who make bad decisions.

The second part of what they say seems to contradict the first part so I don't know what to think about wrong measurements/weights under simple delivery.

I have a number of items that are large letter size listed at £2.00 with free postage.

Postage is £1.90 through Royal Mail 2nd class large letter. I'm 'left with' 10p - factoring in I'm buying paper to print labels, envelopes and fuel to get to the stage depot, I'm not really, but hey, you know...

When Simple Delivery is added to these listing, will ebay simply make the price for all these items £4.70? As in the £2.00 I have them listed for and then the £2.70 price for postage through SD with both carriers selected?

Insanity.

Feared this was coming. Haven't gone through the whole thread yet but just created a test listing on one of my items.

Something to be aware of - The Evri list of non-compensation items is rather large - https://www.evri.com/send/what-i-can-and-cannot-send - I'm selling my record collection and ebay won't prompt me that if I choose Evri I would NOT be covered for any compensation in the event of damage. Guessing loss would come into that as well. I always use Royal Mail today anyway, but this is worth remembering.

Choose your preferred carrier with caution.

My other thought - using this method, we are no longer putting much needed cash back into our Post Office tills - they get paid for handling the package when it's pre-paid but it's a much smaller amount. The less they earn, the more chance they are at risk of closure, unless I'm not seeing the big picture.

Royal Mail 1kg parcel on simple delivery is priced at 3.74 whereas it is 3.39 on the RM website. Why are they charging more for RM?
